Glazer: Woodson out for 6 weeks

Just saw the news as well on NFL Network.

It's a loss, but honestly, I don't think it's a crushing blow. Woody really hasn't been the same this year, whether it's because of age or health. I could be Rong, but I really don't remember any impact plays from him this season so far. I think they can overcome this with their depth and then having a fresh Woody for the stretch run may not be such a bad thing.

Same injury as the Super Bowl. At least there is some depth in the secondary.

Was just thinking this. Helps fast forward the development of M.D., McMillian, Hayward and House, forces Burnett to take on more leadership, and gives Chuck a mid-season rest. Also comes during a good stretch in the schedule with a bye week thrown in there.

There were no reports at all of anything being wrong with Woodson even this morning. I think I remember the play it happened on too. He got up after a tackle along the sideline and was making the same motions he did after breaking it in the SB. I thought, oh sht, not again.

His "pure safety" play may not be missed but Capers was starting to use him in interesting ways the last couple weeks and that part of the D will be missed, especially since we're already thin at ILB. Also can't underestimate the experience he brought back there when reading the offenses and getting the DBs in correct position.

Same thoughts as many of you------devastating in years past, but as time has passed, not so much. Nice to get him back for a Super Bowl run and motivate the boys to win one more for him!

I hope Capers doen't hit the panic button and go zone coverage the majority of the time. Could make things worse.

Losing Woodson is another tough blow. But I'm still more concerned about the ILB tagteam of Hawk and Jones. Those two need to play better than they did yesterday.

Any word on how they plan to maneuver thru this personnel wise?

Hasn't Jarrett Bush been Woodson's usual replacement?

I am not sure if age has caught up to Woodson or if it is the change to safety, but I agree with those that Woodson has not really made much in the way of impact plays. Perhaps it is a good thing that Capers was giving MD Jennings some playing time, as now the Packers will need both Jennings and McMillon. Even Richardson was active for the first time all season, so he will probably be in the mix.

If nothing else, it will give more reps to the younger players.

Woodson has been playing safety, Bush has been playing the world's leading expert on the back of NFL jerseys. I doubt he'll replace Woody.

And yes, this would have been devastating back in 2010 and even last year, but this team finally has some serious depth in the secondary. I feel that Williams, Shields, Hayward, House, Burnett, Jennings and McMillian will make things work back there. Let's just hope there are no more injuries.

I've got to think that we'll sorely miss Woody's experience and adjustments out there, even if Bush isn't the next man up. There have been so many times that CW has appeared to recognize something and could be seen calling it out to the guys who would be affected by it. I don't think his loss will be felt as much in talent and ability as it will in experience and recognition. He's a coach on the field.

What a change from last year. Shields play declined. Williams hurt.

Shields doing better. Williams faring much better. And add House and Hayward. I think without House and Heyward, Pack would not be a legitimate SB threat.

Only way I would have Bush on the field to replace Chuck would be as a blitzer. He's actually not bad in that role. Anything involving coverage, though, keep him stapled to the pine.

I thought when Wood went down that it looked so very similar to the SB collarbone break. Yes, the biggest negative is losing his 2ndary QBing skills.

i'll be very surprised if he plays again this season.

•Same collarbone as the one Woodson broke in the Super Bowl.
•The injury isn't as bad as that one.
•Fully expect and plan for the next individuals to step up and play better defense. THat's the plan every week. It's been a hard couple of weeks for us.
•Plan is for Woodson to come back. Give him that opportunity and will stay at 52 on the roster.
•Expect the backups to step in and nothing will change. Expect the defense to continue to grow. Stay focused on opponent ahead.

Agree with many comments that this is not devastating, but it definitely hurts. Finding ways to get more pressure on the QB is that much more important now.

Not a huge loss for the defense, but he was a veteran and emotional leader. I think his loss will have the biggest impact on the run defense, Woodson had 33 tackles on the year. But I think a combination of Jennings and McMillian can make up for his loss in pass coverage. Who ends up playing more will probably depend on who plays the run the best.

It's just frustrating that the hits keep coming.


Will MD Jennings just step into Woodson's role? Or will they use a number of players to play base-SS and nickel corner?

Anyone who thinks losing CW for 6 weeks isn't a big deal, is nuts. Sure, has he played at an All-Pro level like the last few years, not at all, but he has the expereience and knowledge and ability to make adjustments, that we haven't seen yet out of the kids. Will the kids play well, probably, and they will gain lots of expereince, but losing a your "QB" on the defense is going to hurt.

Let's not forget that the time he will be out, we are going up against, Larry Fitzgerald, Megatron, Giants, (all pretty tough on a secondary).

I remember somebody making a comment about how small his shoulder pads are compared to the rest of the players. He thought they may of been his same pads from his high school yrs. Maybe Woodson should think about an upgrade.

It's never good to lose a guy like Woodson, but we're much more prepared this year than we have been in past years. I'm just glad he's not one for the year.

They could also possibly explore the concept of playing a little more base defense.

And he wouldn't be covering any of those guys. TE maybe, but they won't face a top TE the rest of the regular season.

Woodson is not the Player he was, how much of an impact player he still is and how important he is to the Packers Defense we will learn over the next six week.
We might be seeing the last of Woodson and Driver playing for the Packers this year. It is tuff to see guys like that leave they are hard to replace.
But it happens, Butler, Hondo, Star, Edwards, Hudson, Reynolds, Harrell, and Campbell just to name a few Packer greats that left the game. Sorry guys I get all misty eyed thinking of the great “Rocket Armed” Rich Campbell.

I don't care how old Woodson is this is a big loss for this team. While his physical skills aren't what they used to be he's assignment sure and doesn't screw up. While I like what the rookies have done they are still rookies.

The good news is that the next several games are winnable and then you have the bye but I hate to see the guy hurt.

Look, I love Woodson. But there's always been a lot of risk-reward in his game. He takes chances, be it jumping routes or trying to make a big play. Add to that his loss of pure cover skills and penchant for holding.

Methinks a lot of last year's debacle in the secondary was due to Chuck taking risks as always but with no Nick Collins to cover up the holes that resulted.

Having said that, I'm still sold on the guy. Hope he comes back for the stretch drive in great condition.

I like the promise of the rookies. McMillan and Hayward and MD Jennings have been solid and House and Shields are fine. I just think that it is easy to overlook Woodson's contributions and that might be a mistake. The guy is still a very good player and his experience is tough to replace.

If any team can overcome an injury in the defensive backfield it is the Packers

After seeing McMillian playing most of the snaps for a few weeks, they've been giving Jennings and McMillian pretty much equal playing time the past couple games.

I wonder if they'll continue that or if they'll give one guy significantly more snaps than the other.
