I know the Phillies are the best team in baseball this season, and that they have an excellent starting rotation.

But if the Brewers have any aspirations beyond simply winning their division, making a real run at a world championship, they have to do a better job at the plate. We scored 1 run last night on 5 hits, and have 1 run on 3 hits in the bottom of the 8th.

Make that 4 hits. Let’s go, Sal!

Not related to the game, but I thought you guys might like to see this while we wait on the edge of our seats.

This card, owned by a long time member of our vintage and pre-World War II baseball card group on Facebook, was offered for sale tonight. It’s a 1910 T206 Eddie Plank in a very high grade. Only about 120 examples of this card are known to exist in the world, and this one is an absolute blazer. These cards were used to stiffen the packaging of tobacco packs.

Plank is one of the great pitchers in baseball history, with 326 wins. He’s 16th all-time in Baseball Reference pitching wins with 90.9.

Very likely locked into the 3 seed at this point. They lose the tiebreakers against both the Phillies (2-4 record against them) and Dodgers (3-4) and are 2 games behind the Dodgers and 3 behind the Phils with 10 games left.

If the Brewers ran the table (very unlikely even with strong play given they have 4 against the D-Backs next and 3 with the Mets to end the season), the Phillies would have to go 7-3 and the Dodgers 8-2 to beat them.

6 of the Dodgers last 10 games are against the Rockies, and they have one more against the Marlins.

Phillies have a tougher schedule with 4 against the Mets before 3 with the Cubs and 3 with the Nats.
