McCarthy wasting no time letting us know no specifics will be given on injuries.

MM: Nick Perry was a bit of a surprise to me. I didn't expect that.

McCarthy on Boykin: Rough start but had the big catch. ...Will have a lot more opportunities this week.

McCarthy: "Davon (House) got a little gassed on special teams. Put Micah (Hyde) in and he was impactful in the game."

McCarthy: "I love the way Aaron Rodgers is playing right now."

McCarthy: "I love the way Aaron Rodgers is playing right now. ...He has played through frustrating moments. I like it when he's salty.

McCarthy on Aaron Rodgers: "I like it when he's salty and conflicting. It's good to see that side of him.

McCarthy: The penetration on the goal-line stand was outstanding. ...That's a moment you can build on.

Cleveland seems to have a solid defense, but I'm guessing they will bank on Boykin not being able to deliver as the #2 and will stack up against the run. I don't see Lacy having a big day because of it. This is a game that will be won or lost by our TEs. Finley MUST come through because their focus will be on stopping Lacy and Nelson, so I'm guessing Finley will get some opportunities.

None too thrilled to hear that Perry seems to be worse than expected seeing as he did come back in the game on Sunday after having been out for a bit.  He really was finally coming into his own in that ROLB spot.

The Pack should beat Cleveland, but that said, I think it will be a dogfight.  If Hoyer were still playing for Cleveland, they might have been even tougher to beat than the Ravens.

I also expect Finley to be split out more this week.  Jordy is likely to be a non-factor with Haden on him.  Would be interesting to see Franklin line up in the slot a little bit.  Would be good to use the screen game some and get the pass rush and run stopping down.  Going to need to run and PA pass.  Cleveland is tough on defense.  They have athletic WRs.  Our defensive backfield is more geared toward stopping athletic WRs than physical ones (compare A.J. Green's game to Anquon Boldin).  The biggest trouble is they have a serious TE and we have been terrible at stopping TEs over the years.  Still, Weeden does not strike fear into the hearts of men.  Could be tight.  Good game to have the home crowd.  I still think the Packers pull this out, but I might need more alcohol to handle the pain.

even with the lb injuries GB def will have a big day.  i have faith in the dline to plug the holes and contain mcgahee, opening up the lb's to make plays and allow for more nickel coverage.  weeden is not much of a threat but he'll be forcing a lot of passes to gordon and cameron.  cameron makes me the most nervous, but i still see weeden having a 3 int day.

clev def is pretty good.  haden is tough and if he shadows nelson then rodgers will really have to plant some perfect passes to him.  finley lining up more as a wr makes sense.  would like to see franklin get involved on some short routes and dump-offs.  if boykin brings his hands game he could be in for some big plays.

McCarthy

  • (Taylor) Never known he injured. Had surgery. Everything went well. Definitely be on the front end of the time back.
  • (Neal) Bruised shoulder. It's something out of practice today. Don't think available tomorrow.
  • (2 OLBs) It's not fun. It's a lot of adjusting with all the roster moves we've made. Personnel moves put stress on certain positions.
  • (Practice different) Cut down on team drills.
  • (James Jones) Friday will be the day we decide. He's very positive about his rehab.
  • (Hayward) I can't say he's ready to go. He practiced today. We'll see.
  • (Sherrod) He'll be in pads tomorrow. Great to see him. Hasn't been in pads since KC game. How we integrate him in team work is important. Not going to put him out there and have 55 snaps. But we'll push him as much as possible.
  • (IR) There were two plays Monday I didn't see it coming (injury situation). On our staff meeting we had 43 players to get ready to play. It's clear cut where we stand. As far as guys injured, we have timetable.
  • (offense) That's why game plan. Worked a little longer on Monday and Tuesday. Have to be ready to get in and out of personnel groups.
  • (Preparing for AFC) Really didn't prepare for Cleveland in off-season because of new staff. Really just looked at preseason and up to date. Team getting better. Some carryover how they run their defensive scheme and we run ours. I have a lot of respect for Norv Turner.
  • (Cobb decision) It really matched up with the medical decision. If ever a case, this was clearly within that timetable.
  • (Joe Thomas) Very good football player. Doing a heck of a job. Thing i've appreciated with Joe is his patience. Can play agianst speeed and power. Just has that calm presence and patience.
  • (White and Stoneburner) Myles big time catch in red zone today. He needs to get out and play. These guys have been here. This is how we operate. Important for them to compete.
  • (Perry) It will be a couple of weeks. He's upbeat about it and we'll see.

Another step forward.

T Derek Sherrod jumped right into the half-line blocking drill during his first padded practice.

Packers practice: no changes. Jones, Jones, Starks, Perry, Taylor, Matthews and Neal not practicing Hayward in pads with others.

That's 3 weeks in a row with Hayward in pads on Thursday! Having another phys DB can only help with their depleted OLB situation. 3-1-7
Injury: Bush FULL; Hayward LIM; B. Jones DNP; J Jones DNP; Matthews OUT; Neal DNP; Perry OUT; Starks OUT; R Taylor OUT

McCarthy: Mike Neal's getting better. Hopefully he can practice tomorrow, but we'll see.

MM: James Campen felt Sherrod looked good

MM: We'll see on James Jones. It's going to be close

MM: Micah Hyde, from day one, said he's about as natural a returner handling the football I've seen coming out of college. Like Woodson.

MM on whether they'll have 46 for Sunday: "You must've heard Ted (Thompson) and I talking. ... Sounds like he's worried about having enough

MM: If we can't, it would stress our special teams. If you look at the makeup of our roster right now. LB position is area we're stressed

MM: We've had some odd things with OL. That's why you play the game. We've had some mental mistakes. Had sack early against Baltimore

McCarthy on Jerel Worthy: "He's getting close. Let's not forget that his injury did occur the last game of the (2012) season."

McCarthy on Richardson: There's been tests done. No decision has been made yet.
