The fact that ESPN's QBR is a black box, with god knows what attached to its calculation, that the change on a whim (I mean, there's no way they could simply identify certain outlier issues that might make the outcomes they want come up, right?) makes it a useless pile of garbage.

Kinda like almost everything on ESPN.

Useless pile of garbage?  I'll have you know that I print out BSPN stuff then burn it in the fireplace.  It is good for providing the heat.  Useless indeed!!!!

Sort of like PFF as far as I'm concerned.

The way that the national media fawns over PFF statistics, even AFTER they fully admitted their margin of 'error' based on their 'evaluation' is around +/- 10... is shocking.

Ok, not shocking, but stupefying.

We need a PFF sucks icon to go with

PFF claims to rate every player on every down. To do that you need the All-22. All-22 is not available until after the MNF game. PFF puts out grades on players from the Sunday games by Monday AM. Irish Wizards.

You mean like adding Colin Kaepernicks "launch point" to the calculation?

Chronomancers.

Aaron's on fire in the press conference, too

@ByRyanWood: Aaron Rodgers on why he was able to get three TDs to Randall Cobb on variation of the same play: "They weren't guarding it very well."

PFF ratings rationale. The equivalent of giving a RB extra credit for skipping the easy holes so they can break more tackles. 19 NFL teams subscribe to those clowns.  Let me guess who those teams are.

PFF explains its grade of AR against KC. Not surprisingly. It's utter bull****.

They argue that 3 TDs were zero graded throws but the "almost" INT was a minus grade mistake.

If if that isn't some backwards assed make it up as we go line of subjective thinking I don't know what is.

"But you cannot — and we do not try to — quantify intangibles, or what comes pre-snap. Our system grades what can be graded — the execution of the play post-snap — and in that regard Rodgers did not stand out in the same way that his statistics did."

In other words, they don't grade results or grade all the things Rodgers does that lead to those results.  So readers walk away with a poorer understanding of player performances than if they hadn't read it at all.  Nice.

PFF needs to stop writing articles trying to justify grades that make zero sense to begin with.

It makes things worse and likely ends with more cancelled subscriptions than new ones.

Micah Hyde thinks giving Michael Vick and Jameis Winston higher grades than Rodgers is perfectly based in statistical fact, even before accepting scientifically valid qualitative measures.

A little peek into what Aaron is thinking about before he snaps the ball and delivers a -0.8 performance

Thanks for posting that.  I will forward to all my friends who think football is just a bunch of dumb guys banging into each other cuz, well they ain't too smert.

I apologize for ever referencing ProFootball Focus before. Obviously to maximize your grade you have to play Favrian football. In other words you get more points for threading the needle to a TE through 3 defensive guys in the end zone from the 10 yard line than you do from surveying the defense and throwing a 5 yard quick hitter to Cobb that has no chance of being picked off. At least based on their rationale of giving more points for harder throws, rather than making the correct decision.

And they downgrade him for a play when he held the ball too long because his receiver was being held? And for a play where the LB got a hand on the ball?

Micah Hyde hates Rodgers. It's been obvious for some time.

Well I wouldn't go that far to make judgments on a complete stranger. But I have heard that Micah Hyde has really reached out to Brett Hundley and helped welcome him to the Packers, even calling him "the real quarterback of this team." Seems a little extreme, but maybe he's just trying to boost his confidence.

And still people look only at arm strength and combine measurements and end up surprised that guys like Jeff George and Vince Young bust in the NFL. Both are on some lists as the worst Wonderlic scores in history and looked like All-Pros in warmups and then couldn't perform when it counted.
