Aaron Rodgers is coming off a spectacular NFL MVP season in 2011 in which he threw for 45 touchdown passes, had just six interceptions and shattered the league record with a 122.5 passer rating. That followed a 2010 campaign in which he guided the Packers to a championship and earned Super Bowl MVP honors.

In an interview with Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Rodgers said he wants to be a Packer for life. “I want to be a Packer for life and I don’t see myself going anywhere else,” said Rodgers.

Rodgers isn't worried about getting into a contract battle with the Packers like Drew Brees is currently involved in with the Saints.

“I think they’re an organization who is going to do what’s best for the organization," Rodgers said. "Obviously my representation, just like any representation, is trying to get the most money possible at times. I don’t see it being an issue. I want to be a Packer for life and I don’t see myself going anywhere else. I don’t think they would even get close to that. When the negotiation time does come I have confidence in my representation and I know we’re going to do a fair deal, it’s fair for them and for me. And hopefully I’ll feel good about it.”

I hope it doesn't get to the point that Rodger's contract is so expensive (like Manning's was) that the team can't afford to surround him with talent to give him a chance for a ring every year.

Hometown Discount, AR, is better than the Discount Doublecheck.

Not happening. He's the best player in the league, and he's going to get paid like it.

People have been bitching and moaning for the entire TT regime that he isn't aggressive enough in free agency. Well, when he resigns Rodgers to what is surely going to be the most lucrative contract in league history, I hope those same people that cried about Tightwad Ted will realize that his frugal ways in free agency is what allowed it to happen.
Rodgers is saying all the right things. Let's hope he looks at the big picture when it comes time to sign a deal. Having the highest paid quarterback in the league might not make for the most competitive team on the field.

This.

Anyone thinking AR is going to accept some watered down home town deal is kidding themselves.

This is the one position TT has been rumored to have said he will pay highly for. He's the best player at his position and is in the prime of his career.

He will be getting paid like it as well.

Watered down no, but a fair deal for all, yes. He has become good friends with Ryan Braun and has seen what the fans think of Braun vs. the way Prince treated the Brewers. I think Aaron knows without the dollars to sign other very good players, no matter how much he is paid the team won't win. He wants to win.

What did Prince do to the Brewers? Braun took the money early instead of waiting. The Crew never offered that option to Prince.

AR is going to get huge dough. Nothing short of market value or more. Expecting him to give a hometown discount is just silly.

Good thing I have boy on ignor or I would have to rip him for whatever drivel he wrote.

He meant it until he got a case of butthurt.

AR has that same competitive, I'll show you something way about him that Favre did. I'm not saying he's going to run off and join the Bares or Vikings but if the Packers were to fall on hard times, clean house and bring in a new GM there is no telling what bridges could be burned and so on.

Now if that new GM bring in another QB that is better than the previous one I say onward and upward. Smiler
The Packers managed to pay our former QB with a very high salary and there's no reason to think the same won't happen with AR. He may not necessarily be the highest-paid every year, but should be close to it.
I also have the feeling that ARod looks at the big picture as opposed to focusing soley on himself. He definitely wouldn't sign a ridiculous contract "just because" of whatever reason, but will be willing to look at how his compensation affects the rest of the roster.

The Brewers offered 5 years, $100M and he turned it down. Not long after, Braun was offered his deal if memory serves.

Yep....If I learned anything from the debacle that was the end of the road for Brent in GB...it was as a fan don't put too much stock in this type of sentiment from a player.
Exactly artis.

The one thing I noticed that's different (so far) with AR is after winning the Super Bowl, he told his mom his "goals have changed" He wants to be the best man playing QB in the NFL.

I also believe he wants to win multiple Super Bowls whereas Brett didn't care one way or the other after getting the first one.

But I'm with ya....I hope Aaron never changes but we all know people do (and will) change
If Brent had just said, "I got my records, it is someone else turn to QB this team. TT I want to be the backup for a couple years and then disappear - and I'll sign for less money to do it." He could have had his number retired the next day and everyone would have been happy and we would have called him one of the all time great guys to play the game. Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers would be equals in terms of chacter the minds of many. Instead, we have what we have ....... Frowner

You can not be serious? Prince was offered multiple long term contracts.. He employs this guy named Scott Boras, maybe you heard of him if your a baseball fan, who NEVER advises his clients to sign until the reach FA..

I do have a strong desire to be great, and winning Super Bowls for this franchise and this fan base is very important to me. Those are the memories you're going to take with you. We've got one. It was a special feeling. It's time to get another one.

This is why he will be a Packer for life...
Favre still wanted to win Super Bowls, but wanted to take shortcuts to do it. The NFL is just too tough to take shortcuts. You have to work your butt off to get to the top. Favre didn't quite do that after age 30, and he ended his career with fewer rings than a guy with his talent should have.

Thank goodness he left. The pressure of playing while Favre was on the bench would have been totally different for Rodgers. During his first season (he played well, but the team lost a lot) the fans would have been calling for his head thinking that the ole Favre magic could still win games. It all worked out for the best in the end.
Didn't want to make a thread since it's not confirmed and all I've seen is LeRoy Butler reporting it, but via twitter he said(about an hour ago) that Rodgers is close to an extension. A 5yr/$96 million deal

quote:
leroy butler @leap36

Aaron Rodgers extention almost done, 5 years 96$ million. He is way under paid,? thoughts?
It depends, as always, what's guaranteed.

96 mil over 5 is about 19 mil a year. That's a fair deal but it all depends how it's stacked and how much AR gets locked up no matter what.

I will say this. One Dree Brees won't be a happy camper. Because if you compare the 2 QB's today, and IF this is an accurate, no way will Brees be breaking the bank from the Saints if the Packers are actually offering this and AR accepts.
Butler with another update

quote:
leroy butler @leap36

The deal saves packers money so bj, clay, Jennings can get resigned as well

Again, Butler is the only one who is reporting this stuff, but at the NFL draft he told us all who the Packers were picking in the 2nd round on twitter before he even made the pick live on TV, so who knows. None of the writers seem to be picking up or commenting on Butler's tweets, so it's wait and see
