Barry was a complete arrogant SOB but I rarely saw his teams make the volume of errors like these current Badgers teams.
Losing at Michigan State the way they did and now more special teams fuck ups it’s just inexcusable.
Badgers special teams and offense look like deer in the headlights.
Mertz has not been close.

Mertz completes a pass, but it was thrown to a stationary target. That seems to be the only way he can consistently have success. He has no feel for leading a guy correctly

I think he has to at least beat Nebraska to even be in the conversation. Even after this cluster in Iowa, if they beat Nebraska and Minnesota, I bet he gets the job.
If they lose out, I don't think you can bring him back. If that's the case, then you are basically starting from scratch next year as they'll be a ton of transfers.
I honestly don’t know which is the best case scenario. I love the idea of a “Wisconsin” guy but maybe they need to bring in some outside and more innovative concepts.
i mean I’ve seen the QBs at Army and Air Force throw better balls than Mertz.

Iowa's best offense is just running three plays and punting and letting the Badgers' offense and special teams lose yardage from the exchange of possessions.
I get his dad is the offensive coordinator but Dean Engram looks lost retuning punts.
Difficult to win games with that offense and special teams.
You almost sense that the Badgers offense and coaching staff is hoping that Iowa picks up this 4th and 1 so they don't have to come back on the field and fail again.

For Iowa to reach 30 points, yes. Iowa has scored more than 27 points once all year. They scored 7 against South Dakota State.
It was shitty protection by the LT on that strip sack, but the fact that Mertz had no sense that he needed to step up into a completely clean pocket in front of him is just symbolic of his lack of feel for the game.
