I want to hear from the fans of other teams as well. Red Dawn, Bear Bite, chickenboy, etc, feel free to discuss your team needs as well.
I would give Keel's left nut
for a chance at Star Lotulelei. Next to Raji, he would be a one man wrecking ball both against the run and the pass.

Joekel would fit our biggest need, protecting the blindside of the franchise, but I think he is a tad overvalued based on his position. I just doubt he will develop into an elite LT. I could be very wrong, of course. That happened once before.Smiler

Think of something bigger to trade.

Supposing you gave Reggie McKenzie a call and asked him what he'd want for that number 3 pick -
"considering all that the Packers franchise has done for him..."

What do you think he'd take ?

(2) 1sts, a 4th, AJ Hawk, JerMike and Jarret Bush ? Big Grin

I'd take Fisher over Joekel based on little more than a hunch.

Long was certainly viewed that way coming out of UM, but he's developed into an offensive version of AJ Hawk.
I would trade down if possible & still get one of the players below.

Players I like.

Lane Johnson | Barkevious Mingo | Xavier Rhodes | Star Lotulelei | Dee Miliner | Desmond Trufant

I don't think this is a very good draft overall.
I'd go Joeckel.

I think this is a very good draft for the solid-to-good teams. There's little "flash" at the top, and no QB worth a first-round pick, but it's deep at positions outside of QB and ILB, including a bumper crop of LT candidates with Joeckel, Fisher, Johnson, Watson, Armstead and Pugh as well as a couple of others.
If your team had the number one pick would mean that they were really, really bad to earn that distinction and one player wont help them that much because of too many big holes to fill so I would trade down for more picks resulting in more holes hopefully filled.

Chad Clifton and I wonder what you're talking about

Clifton and Ruettgers were both very good. But nobody ever confused them with being one of the best in the NFC let alone the NFL, especially over an extended period of time. It's no disrespect to either, but I'd love the Packers to get an 'elite' left tackle....something neither Clifton or Reuttgers were, IMHO.
Especially out of the 2nd round or later, right Kabong?

Not everyone needs to be Orlando Pace or Tony Boselli or Anthony Munoz

Ruettgers & Clifton were excellent LT's & we don't win the Super Bowl XLV without Clifton

Throw in Robert Ferguson and the right to drool over Joe Thomas and he might bite.

Agreed 100%. Not top heavy, anyway. Trade down.
BTW, Elite LT are overrated. Is Joe Thomas that much more vital than some of the better LT's in the league? The Browns' record during his time in Cleveland would say otherwise.
I've seen that "argument" before and it's pure hogwash. LT is the second-most important position on offense, maybe the team. In the case of Thomas, he hasn't had a decent one of the most important to actually protect and until last year didn't have a top-notch runner to block for either.

The LT is the guy most likely to keep your QB from being a grease spot. Ask David Carr, Tim Couch, etc. how important an LT is.

Doesn't mean LT is not the most important position outside of QB
on offense. It does mean you don't need a great one to win. The last great LT to win the Super Bowl? Probably Orlando Pace.

It isn't possible to cover Jermichael Finley (LB? DB? Matchup problems!), I know this because that's what him and his fanboys say.

No one will mistake him for elite. KGB used to abuse the hell out of that fat, lazy slug practically every time they lined up across from eachother.

That's what I mean. I loved watching KGB whoop him.

As far as Chad Clifton goes, I remember a game a few years ago against the Colts where many thought Dwight Freeney would destroy old man Clifton. And the opposite ended up happening.

Clifton was very good. Clifton was a great Packer, but not an elite LT. And while a team doesn't need an elite LT to win a Super Bowl, they also don't need an elite ANY POSITION to win a Super Bowl. Doesn't Dilfer have a ring?

But that's not the topic. If you could have have a draft that included Clifton, Pace, Joe Thomas, Anthony Munoz or Tony Boselli, who would you pick? I'll bet Clifton wouldn't be your first choice.

So to answer the thread topic again, if I had the #1 overall and was picking for the Packers, I'd pick a standout LT that will be considered by many scouts to be a dominant LT for years to come. And that's no disrespect to Clifton, Reuttgers or any other LT. But I think LT is the most important behind QB, and with Rodgers under center, I'll take a guy that can protect him (projected) the best.
