Mertz is useless = Chryst is useless
If they shit canned both of them after this game Iβm not sure a lot of people would care

His passing stats look good. I don't think he's thrown a pass more than 5 yards past the LOS the entire first half.
Let me step in:

Player: βOK coach β
I just hope Metzβs car never stalls on a railroad crossing.
Mertz just has no awareness at all. Another big loss where he should have unloaded the ball.

He'd probably just sit in it and stare off into the distance perpendicular to the tracks.
The national scouts/ranking bureauβs thought he could be a star, he is not even competent.
Now if we can keep our defense on the field, weβll win the game.
Wow, two great runs and a TD. Once again, the Badgers are a competent QB away from being pretty good and a good QB against being force.
Bad attempt at a tackleβ¦.thanks
No more passes. RTFB.
The Iowagians must be wondering how the hell they lost at home to this outfit
What can Mertz figure out to ruin this?

So, pretty much the story for the last 30 years except for one year of Russell Wilson (to be fair, most of the time they had at least competent quarterbacking).

He does touch the ball on every playβ¦.plenty of opportunities

It's up to Chryst to prevent that from happening.
No turnover is a win
What terrible throw. I thought that was the point of playing him. He could make throws like that and we were supposed to live with the negative plays while he learned the position?
Mertz is painful to watch.
Correct me if Iβm wrong. But didnβt the NCAA say last year did not count eligibility wise, therefore Mertz has 3 more years of Chryst not knowing he sucks?
Oh, I think PC is well aware of his QB situation. The play calling after the INT, first and goal on the one showed how much he believes in Mertz

He's probably the best-looking practice QB they've had since Russell Wilson. I'm sure he looks great in shorts during the summer with no pass rush. He has the arm and all the measurables. It just doesn't translate to actually playing in a real game.
Purdue has their own Mertz.
How does the Big 10 always manage to find unathletic QBs (outside of Ohio State) who also cannot throw the football (generally including Ohio State)?
Just a brutal exhibition of QB play in today's game.
Can Mertz throw a pick 12?
Will they get a passing yard this half?
@Blair Kiel posted:Can Mertz throw a pick 12?
If it was possible, he'd do it. He basically did it against Notre Dame earlier this year (2 picks sixes in 7 passes attempts in the 4th quarter).
Mertz is a putz.
Mertz manages to get a personal foul on a play where all they had to do was hand the ball off and kick the FG to go up 17. Out of FG range now.
Larsh bails Mertz out from 43 yards (should have been 33).
Ribs?
I don't think it's going to happen, but if the Badgers win out, they will win the Big 10 West.
Burks is doing OK!

The other conferences have historically paid NFL-level QBs a lot better. OSU is up there with the SEC, Texas/Oklahoma, Clemson, and a few others for some reason.
Jim Leonhard won this game. Purdont blew their wad last week and Leonhard confused the shit out of their 3 QB system.
Only watched the game because it was on one of the 3 TV's in front of me at the local watering hole
Mertz is Mertz, but can we talk about the oline? Pass blocking is shit, and 1 out of every 4 plays some shlub on the defense is in the backfield as fast as the snap.
Linebackers are fantastic again, that is fun to watch
They did open up some pretty nice holes though. That unit has improved as the season has progressed.
Had a chance to play back some of the game while on the treadmill this morning and holy crap Mertz was hard to watch. Itβs difficult to believe he was touted as one of the best QBs in the country. He is a drive killer and his mistakes should not be happening this far into his career.
