We've seen enough now with Rickie to know that 1) he's striking out at an alarming rate, and 2) he might not be 100% healthy. Or maybe he's just not as good as we all think he was or could be.

He's not been the same player since he came back from the ankle injury in 2011. That being said, he's a career .248 hitter which maybe is what it is. 2010 was his best year and he's been on a downward trend since then.

I really think that Melvin became enamored with his power potential and that's why he's stuck around. The problem is even that ability has fallen off quite a bit.

Don't know if Gennett is the long term answer or not, but at a minimum Rickie should be splitting time with him.
