How good do they look with a bun?

I really wanna be as optimistic as Zach…

Guess not many will agree, but I feel *slightly* better about the defense after a few rewatches. It wasn’t good enough and the front needs to play better early, but I think most of the coverage breakdowns were a result of inexperience than ineptitude.

Perfect week for the Niners to be down half a dozen RB's. But they will still find a way to run the ball and unlike many of the stupid teams the Packers face, the Niners won't stop running the ball when it's working.

I know one thing, it's time to stop deferring when they win the coin toss. Take the fucking ball and put your dominant unit on the field to start the game. They lost the toss this week. Detroit took the ball and rammed a TD into the Packers pie hole. The Packers play so much better as the lead dog.

I'll agree there is definitely an element of inexperience but with vets this is a horrible look for the coaching staff.

Is this the return of The Wizard's country club but now with Red Bull?

Heard Larry McCarren say during the last preseason game that Nijman had an excellent camp and really seemed to be NFL ready in year three.  He had a pretty solid college career going up against elite talent and held his own. DOESNT mean it’ll translate to the next level.  But McCarren doesn’t seem like the kind of commentator that just hands out random compliments to placate fans.

When the schedule came out this was one of the games I circled as a loss almost instantly.

Yes, the Niners have injuries to their RB group and I don’t view Jimmy G as a serious threat.   But they still have Kittle, they still have a really good front seven and OL, and they still have Shanahan.  And it’s on the road and Packers have to travel.

The good news is I think the pressure is off because I’m guessing just about everyone assumes GB will lose this game so the Packers can simply show up and play football.  Perhaps Green Bay can rise up and steal this one.  If they play well and don’t make mistakes they can beat those guys.

I just don’t like that OL v our DL and Kittle v anyone in the secondary and I sure as hell don’t like their coaches v our coaches.  But as they say, that’s why they play the game.

You mean you aren't looking forward to Nijman's debut as a starting LT.

This might be a good game for Aaron Rodgers to get load managed with the new 17 game schedule.

In reality, they'll have to be a lot of max protection and/or very quick throws.

Don't be surprised if Jenkins plays. MLF said in his presser that #74 is probably one of the toughest players on the roster, he doesn't blink when you tell him he's playing a new position this week, and essentially he's a tough SOB.

Obviously time will tell, but I would bet he plays.

Brad Hoover is like 45.

This is the classic week we get "Hoovered"  SF has a really really good OL and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they find someone in street clothes and he goes for 150.

Tschmack, I am good with our coaches vs. their coaches with the exception of DC.  I am more concerned that the 49ers are a physical team and those are the types of teams that concern me because the Packers don't match up well against those teams.

Lions have a good o-line, Packers used a "Bear Front", 3 interior D-lineman & 2 OLBers on "run downs" and really did fairly well stopping the run ... the Lions RBs only had 62 yards. Run stat looks bad because of Goff's 46 yards on 4 runs. Playing the 5 man front helps to minimize double teams on Clark. Of course the negative is that it only gets 4 DBs on the field, unless they play Amos in the box with one ILBer. The combo of Kittles & their running game presents some real problems for any defense. I know they will constantly "mix it up" to create a bit of a guessing game for the OC, but I think I would play Alexander & Stokes in single coverage on the outside with minimal help which would allow them to deploy more players to help stop their running game & Kittle.

Other than the 2020 game when the Niners were basically missing every good player on their team, the Packers have struggled playing in California under MLF. They've also looked horrible playing in Florida the two times that's happened under him as well.

MLF is 1-5 in Florida and California and 28-4 everywhere else.

2019

at LA Chargers - lost 26-11 in one of the worst offensive games under MLF

at SF - lost 37-8 regular season

at SF - lost NFC Title game 37-20

2020

at SF - won big but the Niners were missing (per cbssports.com)

Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), All-Pro tight end George Kittle (foot), NFC title game star running back Raheem Mostert (ankle), receivers Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and Brandon Aiyuk (COVID-19 list), left tackle Trent Williams (COVID-19 list) and key defenders Nick Bosa (knee), Dee Ford (back) and Richard Sherman (calf).

Florida Games

2020 at Tampa Bay - lost 38-10

2021 Saints in Jacksonville - lost 38-3
