Sounds like CB Sam Shields has taken another step in the concussion protocol. "He's been in the meetings, he's making progress," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. Shields hasn't played since Week 1.

But is he well enough to ride a scooter in traffic?

Schedule change for the : Road game @ Atlanta now kicks off at 4:25 p.m EST. Had been 1 p.m.

WR Randall Cobb did not practice with the rest of the offense today. He did some cardio off to the side of the field.

RB James Starks did not practice today due to an undisclosed injury. Eddie Lacy (ankle) is here but not doing much at all.

With such thin numbers at running back, practice squad tailback Don Jackson took reps at practice.

Good news on Phat Eddie. Starks apparently has a "knee". Why do I get the feeling he's going to be IR'ed with rosters spots needed for Goodson, Pennell, and Linsley?

Running back reversal: Eddie Lacy more likely to play than James Starks

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- When the day started, it looked like the Green Bay Packers might be forced to use James Starks -- and not Eddie Lacy -- as their primary (and perhaps only) running back on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

By the time Wednesday’s work was over, it appeared to be the other way around.

Starks was nowhere to be found on the practice field with what was later disclosed as a knee injury, while Lacy did some work even though he’s still dealing with the left ankle injury that knocked him out of last week’s win over the New York Giants.

The Packers offered no details on Starks’ injury other than to list him as a non-participant in practice. Lacy was listed as a limited participant even after coach Mike McCarthy said earlier on Wednesday that Lacy would be part of the rehab group.

“We're still evaluating some things,” McCarthy said before practice. “We'll see how Eddie moves around today in the rehab."

Based on the injury report, it sounds like Lacy moved around better than expected. Lacy had his left ankle heavily taped as he went through the individual drills during the open portion of practice.

Still, the Packers might be thin at running back since there’s a chance one of the two backs may not be available. They have only Lacy, Starks and fullback Aaron Ripkowski on the roster plus running back Don Jackson on the practice squad. They have also used receivers Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery as ball carriers out of the backfield this season.

“Well, it’s going to have to be next guy up,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “We’re going to have to see who that is and adjust accordingly. I’m thinking Eddie is going to be OK this week. Hopefully.”

Rodgers also sounded optimistic he would have Cobb at his disposal even though Cobb sustained a neck injury in the final minutes against the Giants on a hit McCarthy called "unnecessary." When asked if he was concerned he wouldn’t have Cobb, who posted his first 100-yard receiving game of the season against the Giants, Rodgers said: “I don’t see that happening.”

Either that, rob somebody's PS, or sign a UFDA or street FA.
I think the risk of injury to Cobb (primarily) lining up at RB is too great, none of our WRs are really built to take more than a couple or three snaps, and we're short on TEs to boot.
Not sure how they can get Jackson on the 53 roster without some serious juggling. Callahan to PS may be the most obvious option?

James Starks' knee injury popped up after Tuesday workouts. Starks is dealing with a death in the family and is out of town until Saturday.

McCarthy said this is a big day for Mike Pennel. Padded practice, heaviest session of the week.

Mike McCarthy on Eddie Lacy's ankle injury: "He's good. That's what he's telling me. Had a good day yesterday, we'll see what he can do today."

Sam Shields will not practice today, per McCarthy.

Seems like Mr. Shields is anxious to return.

From Dallas:

Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith was not at the portion of practice open to the media. He was limited on Wednesday as he continues to deal with a back issue. He missed two games before returning last week against Cincinnati. Backup Chaz Green (foot) is also not practicing.

Five 3-4 OLBs are on pace for 19 or more sacks: Lorenzo Alexander, Von Miller, Brian Orakpo, Markus Golden and Nick Perry.

also dominated OL rankings. Bakhtiari (No. 1 LT), Bulaga (No. 1 RT), Lang (No. 3 G) and Tretter (No. 3 C).
