The current air quality by the stadium is elevated, but not to crazy levels where it would be outright dangerous to play.

In any case, the forecast for the week has the winds shifting on Friday to be coming off the ocean and the air quality is supposed to drastically improve then.

Of course, the teams have to fly into that two days earlier.

All Brazilians look alike to you, don't they?

Just the opposite, you haven't been there?
It's the most diverse genetic mix I've ever seen.
Financially there's equal amounts of have's and have nots (no real middle class) and they come in all flavors. When last there, Sao Paulo had the largest population of Japanese people outside of Japan. (I would have guessed Hawaii)
Then there was the Amazon and Manaus...

From SI on the game and players:

The Brazil game will be interesting. PhiladelphiaEagles receiver A.J. Brown explained why over the weekend when the Philly media asked him about going to São Paulo.

“I’m just trying to go down there to win a football game and come back home,” Brown said. “After hearing all of this stuff, you know, I’m probably just going to stay in my room.”

Which is exactly what players are being told to do.

NFL Security met with both teams, and the Eagles and Green Bay Packers players are being advised strongly—if not flat-out told—to do what Brown said he’d do, and stay at their hotels, outside of the trips they’ll make to Arena Corinthians, where the game is Friday. The teams also had a list of do’s and don’ts spelled out for them when they are outside the hotels. One was to not  walk outside with their phones out of their pockets. Another was to not respond to any weird messages on their phones.

Philly, to a degree, has the issue handled in an organic way. For convenience sake, and because the commute from the airport and stadium to and from downtown can take more than an hour, they decided to stay at the airport, which is near Arena Corinthians. So they’re out of the way of all of the tourist stuff, giving those in their traveling party less motivation to leave their hotel—there will be kiosks set up in the hotel to give Eagles folks a local feel, and a chance to get souvenirs to bring home. The Packers, conversely, are staying in the city

Of course, the reason all of this is worth raising is because of the well-documented issues with crime in the most populous city in the Americas. The NFL has its fingers crossed that there won’t be any problems, of course, given the growth in popularity of American football in Brazil, and how important an international market it could become moving forward. But as for what the NFL and the teams can control, they aren’t leaving much to chance.

What makes this crisis even more concerning is that none of these fires were started by lightning and, rather, most likely by people setting them. “No fires caused by lightning were detected. This means that people are setting fires in the Amazon, the Pantanal, and especially in the state of Sao Paulo,” Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said.

It's not in the media because the media isn't reporting on the burning of the Amazon.  It's approaching a tipping point where it won't be able to rebound and will eventually die off into a savannah.

Maybe not the place to post this but it's interesting that people hear about it because it might effect their NFL team.

Didn't you know they drafted Cooper DeJean?

Love is gonna go 0-20 with 5 picks.

From Tuesday practice:

@AndyHermanNFL:  MarShawn Lloyd doing rehab to the side on the exercise bike during warmups. You knew Green Bay would be cautious with him. We’ll see what his injury status is when the injury report comes out but would guess it’ll be Jacobs/Wilson/Merriweather on Friday.

Can you set up a stationary bike so one leg has to push harder than the other? So as not to perpetuate a muscle imbalance? And which leg gets the hamstring pulls- weaker or stronger?

I know mine only has 2 settings- hanger and shelf.

Now, I'm worried. Why did the NFL schedule a game there, if there is even a slight chance anything bad could happen?

I asked the same question above, when I asked why make a team (Packers) fly over 11,000 miles (round-trip) to play a game? Sure, someone said what I knew, $$$$. But how much extra $$$$ will his amount to, to be divvied up among all the teams?

Isn't the Super Bowl in New Orleans this year?

I love that city, but come on.

It ain't Sao Paulo.

9. Brazil

Brazil has the seventh-highest crime rate in the world with exceptionally high rates of violent crimes. Brazil's homicide rate was 23.6 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in 2020—and it has been as high as 30.8 in previous years. Brazil's most massive problem is organized crime, as organized crime has expanded in recent years, and violence between rival groups is a common occurrence. Drug trafficking, corruption, and domestic violence are all pervasive issues in Brazil.

It’s not just this game per say but they’re trying to develop an international market

It's not about the $$$$ made from this particular game, it's about the $$$$ to be made in the decades to come by growing the market.

Between it being the first game of the year and taking place off in Narnia, I'm just hoping for a win but not expecting much in the way of quality football or to get much of an idea how good either team is. Week 1 games are usually weird enough as it is.

This is an opportunity for the Packers. The green and yellow tie-in is a natural. Packers should sponsor a float during Carnival; maybe with a hybrid samba/polka school of dancers. Not sure what that would look like but definitely unique.

I totally get what they are doing but to be honest will the NFL really take hold in a football mad country like Brazil?  Maybe but I have my doubts.

But. if they are going to have to go overseas might as well get it over with in week 1.

I really do like this game is on a Friday night which is kind of cool.

I think it's brilliant to open the season. Plus they put it on CockPee so more promotion for the streaming platforms. The NFL knows what they're doing.....
