Agreed. A lot of it is having Favre and Rodgers for 30 years. ESPN and pro sports sell star players, not necessarily the teams. Rodgers is a polarizing figure and people to tune in both to watch him lose and to watch him win.

That and the Lombardi years for older viewers.

I have been perusing a few Lions forums late last night and today. I did not realize we are their biggest rival. Who Knew? I know we are the Bears and Vikings biggest rival. I get the hate for those franchises but the Lions have been every teams bitch the past 30 years. It's like "oh yea' that team. Fly away knat.

Having transplanted to Michigan nearly 20 years ago, I can attest that the (non-UP) folks in this state hate the Packers most of all.  It's just that their continued suck has made them pretty quiet about it.  But, starting with Hard Knocks this year, the team has become media darlings and the rumblings are becoming louder.  This isn't the same old sorry ass lions - I do fear the current regime has a better handle on personnel.  It remains to be seen whether the coach is more than the meathead personality that the folks around here lap up.

A little surprised we play SNF.  If the Seahawks win the Lions have nothing to play for except knocking out the Packers.  However if the Seahawks lose, highly unlikely, the lions will be really fired up.    I thought the NFLFU would play the 2 games simultaneously.

I’ve been impressed with how far the Lions have come after bottoming out the past couple years.  If they nail this coming year’s draft, they’ll be a really good team.  Their young O-Line talent is something to build on, and as Jameson Williams gets healthier they’ll have a really good WR corps going forwards.

Jared Goff does appear to have regained at least some of the form he had back when he was healthy and good enough to help the Rams win the NFC in 2018.  That said, there’s times where out of nowhere he can throw some really mind blowingly terrible passes, and you can see why the Rams moved on from him.

That all said, I fully expect the Pack to find a way to win this Sunday Night.  Carolina showed that the run D of the Lions can be had, and I expect the Jones/Dillon combo to give them problems.  I think the Lions could be a handful next season, but they aren’t good enough to beat the Pack at Lambeau this weekend.

Makes sense a lot of ways.

Packers have been by far the best team in the division for almost 30 years. Plus there's a lot of Packer fans up there so they live among them.

I wasn't at this game. I chucked my January tickets back in the spring.

There were definitely times early in the game when you could hear the Vikings fans. And there sure seemed to be a lot of purple in the crowd. Resale for this game was right around face value but the Rams and Lions games were like $40 a ticket. I think it's going to be way more Packer fans this week.

Was the crowd LOUD for the Viking game? Hard to tell on TV.

Loud crowd for Lion game could make the difference.

I kinda wondered if the Packer fans were loud, it was hard to hear if they were on TV.  Hope they blow the Lions fans, those that are there out of their seats.

I agree but I bet we are pretty darn close of a draw as the cowpies are.  We have a ton of transplants from Michigan in my area and yep they hate us.  But, they are quiet about it because of the suck they have had to endure.

Man I was hoping for either a Saturday game or the 430 EST game on Sunday.  I hate it on EST when the game doesn't even start until close to 830.  Not complaining that much but it does cut in to beer drinking because 0500 wake up comes quickly.

Maybe I'm still on the high of pounding out the purple pusscakes, but the Lions don't scare me in the least.

The Packers were in the middle of their offensive and defensive team identity crisis when we lost to Detoilet. Goff is basically a less tallanted Kark. Put him outside in the elements, he will crumble like Kark.

As long as Dingle Barry doesn't get caught up enjoying the smell of his own farts, the D should continue performing well enough to win...something we've seen weekly since Dec 4th.

I see the Lions as our biggest rival in the NFC North, for the next few years. I think Campbell is a decent, respected coach and has the Lions headed in the right direction. The Lions always play us tough, no matter what the records are. Who knew that they say the Packers are their biggest rivals? Must be because Minnesota has a bigger media presence in Wisconsin, than Michigan does.

I was there, and yes, lots of purple.  But surprisingly, the crowd was loud considering how many queen fans there were.

I think getting control of the game as early as they did with the KO return and pick 6 and never letting up pretty much silenced them.

Was at the Jets game this year and while there was probably fewer Jets fans than Vikings fans they had something to cheer about. And we heard it!

Anyone else hearing chit chat about postponing games this week and getting rid of the week off before the Super Bowl?

I haven’t.  Maybe a good idea in theory but the logistics would be something else.

It might turn out that way. From my (limited) experiences with folks from the UP they seem more Packers fans than Lion’s fans. Detroit is also getting a boatload of high picks from their trades and have a solid line. I foresee a rivalry brewing in the future.

I remember meeting an Ohio State fan and saying they are biggest rival of WI. He said Something to the effect that there has to be a back-and-forth of wins and losses for it to be a rivalry. Ouch.

Lately Lions have made it more of rivalry. Not sure if I want Seattle to win or lose. If lions are playing for playoffs they’ll be tough but if only playing to knockout packers they may roll out their whole arsenal, trick plays, etc or even get chippy.
I think cold and home field helps and if we put pressure on Goff he will put a few up for grabs. Packers roll on.

Some of my worries . Back in the first Lion Packer thread some one said they not only had a bad feeling for the game he also thought a SWEEP might be a possibility .  Very possible, they are improving,  but I still hope not.

Also someone has pointed out the Lions are slowly arriving and will be a force to be dealt with next year. Both very serious concerns. We know not to take them lightly for a while now.

I think we need to RTFB and PTFB equally this game. Would be nice to ptfb when they  really are leaning to us probably going to rtfb and vice versa several times. Unleash the Kraken ,the biggest MF on the team, on some 3rd and shorts. Polish the passing game and this could be a blowout!!

I say Packers 48 Lions 24

Let’s remember, the first game was after we had lost four straight and had zero confidence.  Our confidence is back and the team is believing they belong in the playoff mix.

Also Rodgers with 3 pics. 2 in the EZ (1 intended for Bakhtiari) and 1 inside the 5.

Also, there was lots of Amari and Watkins on offense, they were without Campbell on D, and they lost Watson to a concussion late in the 1st half.

It was a sloppy game that GB really should have won by 10 or more.

Historically, the Loins have always been a PITA. Tough, hard-fought contests, even when they shouldn't be.
Detoilet has had a good (for them) season, and they may even be an ascending team, but Green Bay is much more talented and experienced, IMO.

For this game, I don't see the Loins being much different than the Vikes; all offense and no defense. So I think the game plan should be similar.
Since the Packers can struggle rushing the passer, it will be imperative for the DBs to create and capitalize on TO opportunities much like last week. Win the TO battle, score points from them, and contain their rushing game. Simple, right?

I expect a fairly heavy dose of Jones and Dillon, since the Loins are actually worse at defending the run than the Packers, and for ARod to abuse them with PA passes. Again, long drives keeps their offense off the field, and limiting their plays will suppress their chances of hitting a big one.

I hate Ohio State almost as much as I hate the vikings. Who cares what Buckeyes think, anyway? Their biggest rival, in Big Ten football, has been Michigan, IMO. I think we have had more success against the Buckeyes on the basketball court than we have had on the gridiron.

I also think we need to pressure Goff, a lot. I think we need our DBs to play like they did against the vikings. We will win this game! GO PACK, GO!!!

Oh man I live in Ohio (a little less than an hour from Columbus) and I can tell you the majority of OSU fans treat UW with respect probably more so than other Big Ten teams.  They know that most of the time UW will play them hard and they keep saying that UW will eventually beat them.

As for the Lions game, I will admit this team scares me a bit.  The biggest thing is this coaching staff needs to ensure this is in no way a let down after last week.

Go Pack Go!

I also live in Ohio and fully agree with Heckler.  In general, I’d say Ohio State fans respect Wisconsin unlike how they feel about Michigan.
