Were the Bears looking past the woeful patsies as an easy win for them before facing the Mighty Green Bay Packers?

They sure looked like crap today.

Wonder if any of their injured OL recover for Sundays game? Could be another sack fest for the Packers?

GO PACK GO!

Excerpt from The Ringer today about the current state of the B***s:

https://www.theringer.com/nfl/...-chiefs-kyler-murray

Of the six quarterbacks drafted in the first round of April’s draft, Caleb Williams appeared to be walking into the best situation. That was something we all seemed to agree upon, despite Chicago’s history of offensive incompetence. This season would surely be different than all those ugly seasons that came before. The Bears used their second first-round pick on receiver Rome Odunze to fill out a receiving corps led by veterans DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. The offensive line looked solid on paper. And Williams was in good hands with Chicago’s new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, who had overseen Geno Smith’s resurgence over the last two years in Seattle. It was considered one of the best situations for a top pick in recent history.

Fast-forward a few months, and despite Chicago’s respectable 4-5 record, the situation isn’t just worse than expected. After a 19-3 loss to New England on Sunday, it looks as if Williams is in the worst situation of any of the first-round quarterbacks currently playing. The Patriots sacked Williams nine times, putting Williams on pace to finish with the second-most sacks in a single season behind only David Carr—who serves as the cautionary tale for breaking a young quarterback’s spirit. By the end of the game, even Patriots defenders seemed to feel sorry for Williams.

The pass protection has been bad, but Williams’s star-studded receiving corps isn’t playing well, either. Odunze has shown promise at times, but he has been inconsistent, as many rookie receivers tend to be. Moore and Williams still can’t get on the same page, and it appears Moore has had some issues with effort. Allen has looked like a 32-year-old receiver who has a long track record of soft-tissue injuries. And Waldron hasn’t found answers for any of those problems. Meanwhile, Williams is exacerbating those issues by holding onto the ball too long and missing throws, but these are typical mistakes for a rookie quarterback. A good infrastructure would allow a young quarterback to work around these challenges without being punished too heavily. But Williams has been throttled by every good defense he’s faced. That’s a sign of bad coaching.

Of course, there are other signs of bad coaching in Chicago, where head coach Matt Eberflus has destroyed the goodwill he earned after a 4-2 start. It would have been 5-2 if not for a coaching disaster class from Eberflus and Waldron in the last-second loss to Washington two weeks ago. Things didn’t improve in a 29-9 loss at Arizona in Week 9, in which the Cardinals scored on a draw play before the half, and Williams was pressured by 16 different defenders.

Eberflus’s defenses have performed well (just not in end-of-half situations), but his poor game management, bad situational play, and questionable taste in offensive coordinators have canceled that out. And if he hasn’t lost the locker room yet, we’re not far off from it happening.

Moving on from Waldron could be Eberflus’s final card to play before he gets the call every head coach dreads. “We’re looking at everything from top to bottom,” Eberflus said when asked Sunday if an OC change was possible. But the embattled coach is now 0-for-2 when it comes to offensive coordinator hires. Luke Getsy, his first hire, flamed out in Chicago after two seasons and didn’t last more than nine games in Las Vegas before the Raiders fired him from the same job last week. The Bears probably shouldn’t trust Eberflus with hiring the next one—and, based on the early returns, they certainly shouldn’t trust him to oversee Williams’s development, either.

The bad news: virtually no chance that play that poorly against the Packers.

For sure. They always want give their best and play hard vs the Pack. So, I suspect they will come out of the tunnel all amped up like rabid junkyard dogs. But I suspect by games end the bores will be reduced to whining and crying in their misery and self pity.

Excited to see Lloyd play. Don’t expect to see him much at first but he’s a special talent. Speed kills.

@mattschneidman:  Josh Jacobs said he makes MarShawn Lloyd ride with him to practice each day. Makes sure the rookie keeps his head in it despite being out for so long.

Jacobs: “I’m excited to see him go this week.”

Lloyd returning to practice this week and will be designated to return off IR.

This is so The Bears....

And no, he never called back.

I am checking off an item off my sports bucket list by going to see my first Bores/Packers game.  Top of the list is Bears/Packers at Lambeau but this one should be fun.

No idea what to expect from the FIBS but my hope is  that they are all headed for the exits early in the 4th quarter.

@mattschneidman:  Matt LaFleur tells me he’s “optimistic” that Jaire Alexander, Evan Williams and Josh Myers will all play Sunday in Chicago coming off the bye but will give them the week. All three missed the Lions game.

Caleb Williams was sacked 9 times by the Patriots. If the Packers pass rush doesn't get to him, he could look very good against Green Bay.

If the Packers aren't playing, I watch the Red Zone.  Needless to say, I haven't seen much of the Bears this year.

I also heard the bears won't be punting much this year, but here they are, 2nd place in number of punts per game.  Well done. Caleb!

The thought crossed my mind that they may have been looking ahead to the GB game but I think that thought is nullified by the nosedive that team has taken since their fail mary in WAS.  They are in crisis mode and the chicago media is all over it from Poles on down to the 3rd string T.  Lots of moving parts all moving in a bad direction and not even in unison.

This will either be a circle the wagons, us against the world game they find a way to win.  They would need some special smoke and mirrors to get CW enough time to throw and re jump start the offense.  They also need some guys back from injuries on both sides of the ball.

OR they continue to be listless and we just do what we usually do to them.  Love needs to stay healthy and stop throwing them the ball.  Hafley should be able to find ways to get pressure on the rookie QB.  That should really be all it takes.

Assuming their OL injury situation remains the same, if our DL can't dominate, it would obviously indicate a serious problem.

And it's interesting to consider the Packers will have a new starter at OLB. I'd guess it may be 2 guys sharing snaps unless somebody (LVN?) suddenly breaks out, but that's not likely.
It further affects the other LBs, as guys like Enagbare may have snaps at OLB, and whether it changes the rotation of the inside guys.

It may be just rumor, but I seem to remember a recent comment that speculated Mosby or Cox may be getting snaps.
Whatever the case may be, the coaches have had a week to plan and and a week to implement any changes and prepare for Chitcago.

And I'll say all of this would be a perfect time to re-shuffle the LBs, and get guys like Cooper on the field much more than he has been, but I don't expect that will happen.

Smith's snaps were being reduced (First game of the season we had 54, last game he had 21) as it was. Mosley had 5 vs. Lions and looked quicker off the ball than Smith, but is light to set the edge vs. runs. Cox hasn't played a snap yet this season.

Figures they would shake things up with the Packers coming in. What would be hilarious is if they also made a change at QB for this game.

There already was talk on chicago radio that after the beating CW has taken the last 3 games and half their OL being injured that they may got Bagent vs GB.

Just great, now the Pack has to be prepared for unscouted looks, maybe a change in emphasis on run vs pass, and can't rely on the bores past tendencies so far this year. Regardless, "The Mighty Green Bay Packers" will still win. GO PACK GO!

@mattschneidman:   Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi have Packers-Bears on FOX from Chicago on Sunday. They had the Packers’ last game against the Lions and they’ll probably have next week’s game against the 49ers, too.
