Not a normal topic starter, but today I sit at the end of a Sunday evening and am truly enjoying this day when most EVERYTHING fell the Packers' way. This is Vikings week.

A few weeks ago (to borrow an allegory from a Packers' radio show) Dom Capers' defense fed on Christian Ponder like a honey soaked kitten thrown into the middle of a pack of wild dogs. AP ran like hell against a CMIII-less defense gashing for large yardage in a game that the team pretty much had in hand throughout. It did, however, had members of the Packers who seem to be committed to leaving the team at the end of the year cheering for AP's pursuit of Dickerson's so called rushing record.

Here are my keys to the game:

1) Keep AP to 5 yards per carry or less
2) Keep healthy
3) Let Ponder be Ponder and control the underlayer stuff
4) Win the turnover battle
5) Don't get more than one score behind at any time in the first half

I am psyched for this game during this Christmas season. Go Pack!

Pretty impressive considering they were once 2-3 this season.

Now at 11-4 with the only loss to an overrated Giants team when they were coming off a bye & packers very injured, everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.

Great job by MM & staff again this season.

One more thing to take care of....& it's in a dome when Rodgers gets to wear his favorite shoes. Wink
The nation's going to be watching to see if Peterson breaks the rushing record. I prefer to think about the time that the Packers held a similarly unstoppable Barry Sanders to -1 yards.

We can do it!
Considering he got 210 against the Packers last time, this defense needs to come out and make a statement against him this time around. They're as healthy as they're ever going to get this year, and Woodson and Wilson will probably both be back. Rodgers and the offense were also pretty awful in that game, especially the receivers (they couldn't do a thing against Minnesota's garbage secondary). If they can't come out and get it done, they should just be ashamed of themselves.
OK, I'm already sick of hearing AP this, Leslie Frazier coach of the Year that, lookout for the Vikings in the playoffs, Vikings can beat the Packers handily because they own the trenches.

NFLNetworkFU.

I hope the Pack destroy these muthertruckers next week ...
AP won't be breaking the record with Clay setting the edge, Wilson in the trenches, and Woodson at safety. I expect Rodgers and our RBs to have a great game. It's great being a Packers fan. However, Troy/Buck are the announcers.

I wouldn't care one bit if he actually did get it and the Packers still won the game comfortably. It actually would be pretty funny if he got his record and the Vikings missed the playoffs because they kept feeding him the ball at a critical juncture when they needed to pass to play catch up. However, my preference is for him to also come up short, by a wide margin.

Like I stated in another thread - these former players do not know WTF they are talking about. It's all freakin noise! The NFL network sucks!
Aside from sometimes putting my TV on "Football Night in America" (which also sucks) to get a look at the highlights (with heavy use of my mute button throughout) once the rest of the games are over, I haven't watched a pregame show in about a decade.

Are you serious? There's reason why I can't watch any sports dreck anymore. The sole reason this team has won anything is because of Petersen, no one else. Kudos to you AP but you ain't getting the record.

****ing marketing.
It's interesting to compare what's going on now with Jamal Lewis's 2003 season. Lewis had 1,952 yards going into their week 17 home game against a 6-9 Steelers team that was only playing for pride. He only got 114 yards in that game (even though it went into overtime) and came up 40 yards short of the record in the end. Peterson needs 54 yards more than Lewis needed in that game, and it will have to come against a team that has a ton riding on the game. It would be bad if they allow the record to be broken, and it would be absolutely vile if they lose this game. Even if we take the loss of a first round bye out of the equation, even just a 1 point loss to the Vikings in this game would be worse than the 28 point loss to the Giants by a mile in my book. The Packers limped into that game at the Meadowlands against a well rested Giants team that was desperate for a win; this team is as healthy as they're going to get now (assuming Woodson, Nelson, Wilson and Cobb will be on the field) and they're playing an inferior, one dimensional opponent. I don't care how amazing Peterson is or how amped up Jared Allen will be, there is just no excuse if the Packers do not win this game.

Heck,I rather watch the ESPN pregame before I would the NFL network's - and that's BAD!!!

Disagree. Nfl network smokes Espn. But to each his/her own.

I like most of what I see from NFL network over ESPN. ESPN seems to have their head up their asses most of the time when it comes to actually evaluating teams but I do like Schefter and Mort because they're usually pretty reliable when it comes to information. The whole Tebow/NY Jets infatuation is embarrassing and hardly worthy of professional journalism. On the other hand Greg Rosenthal and Greg Cosell on NFL.com are two of the better analysts for the NFL. Cosell is an excellent talent evaluator. I do agree, though, that the former players on NFLNetwork really have no clue what they're talking about, mainly Marshall and Irvin and Primetime. Seems like they like to get caught up in the moment about certain things, ie "Russell Wilson will lead this team to the Super Bowl, Andrew Luck is the MVP, the Vikings will beat the Packers badly".

Personally I prefer to stick to mainly online sources for coverage. Rotoworld is excellent and following local Packers writers and bloggers (WesHod, Pete Dougherty, Demovsky and Vandermause) on twitter is a pretty good way to keep up. Jason Wilde is okay usually and his show with Rodgers each week is pretty good stuff.
It's pretty incredible how meaningful this game is to both teams. Minnesota needs it just to keep their playoff hopes alive, and GB can still secure the #2 overall seed.

Then there is the whole Peterson angle, which should be entertaining.

All I want to hear is PA say "NO!, NO!, the Packers have just knocked the Minnesota Vikings out of the playoffs!!!"
Sponge the Spermheads!

The best way to stop AP is to keep him on the bench. With our new-fangled rushing attack developing, we can do just that.

I believe our defense is ready for the challenge. Maybe it's the euphoria from yesterday's game, but I fully expect our D-line to dominate the LOS, blowing up plays before they can develop, keeping them in 3rd and long situations, and feasting on Ponder ducks.
The NFL usually has alumni from each of the teams in the Super Bowl for the opening coin toss.

Is there any chance the Packers could bring in Nate Poole as an honorary alumnus for the Viking game? Smiler
I was starting to worry at one point that this game was going to be meaningless to both teams but that is anything but that now. Nothing would make me happier than for the Packers to crush any hopes the spermheads had for the playoffs.
This is a BIG game if for no other reason than possibly keeping Jay Cutler in the playoffs.

One point, check the QB's still in contention in the NFC;

1. Patty Melt
2. A-Rod
3. Kaepernick
4. RGIII
5. Russell Wilson
6. Ponder
7. Cutler
8. Romo
9. Eli

Which one of the eight scares you? The only one that has been beating us is seeded at #9 with a 6% chance of being the #6 seed(btw, they like that spot).

RG and Wilson are rookies. Kaepernick and Ponder may as well be rookies. Patty Melt is the same 'guy' he was last time we pummelled him. And imagine if Cutler and Romo sneak in some how!!!

A-Rod needs to build on his legacy. The motto for this playoff season, 'Win one for Bert/TOG'.

Kiln may try to secede a little harder with another Lombardi.

Can't wait!!!
Remember two years ago when Boris was telling us all, "Enjoy the journey."

Yesterday was one of those days, and the setup for the Vikes game next Sunday has the same feel as that final game against the Bears that we had to win to get in.
This whole scenario is beautiful.

NO ONE, I mean NO ONE is talking about any Packer players for any awards. Peter King's MMQB hasn't mentioned one Packer player or coach for anything. All the post game/pregame shows are spouting about the Seabags and Falcons in the NFC. Meanwhile the Packers have been grinding all season. MM has done a masterful job of getting the young guys valuable playing time and managing the veterans as much as possible despite injuries. It may have been ugly at times but 11-4 is 11-4. Not sure how it is possible for an 11-4 team (which should be at least 12-3) to be under the radar, but they are.

Well, almost.

quote:
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers are playing short-handed again with offensive lineman T.J. Lang and Jordy Nelson out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Nelson injured his hamstring on the second drive of the game. Lang hurt his ankle in the second quarter.

The loss of Nelson comes just as Green Bay's receiving corps was getting back to full strength. No. 1 receiver Greg Jennings was active Sunday for the first time since Sept. 30. And Lang's injury is a costly loss for an already thin offensive line. Lang started the first nine games at left guard before moving over to right tackle after Bryan Bulaga suffered a season-ending hip injury. Undrafted rookie Don Barclay replaced Lang.

This.

Oh and the "Hearing PA screaming NO! NO!" comment.

That too.

You know its really interesting that not one Packer is getting mentioned for anything, along with the fact that if you take away the fail mary that the packers would be tied for the 2nd best record in the whole NFLFU. Its amazing how under the radar this team is despite they are only a year removed from winning the superbowl, have the league's best QB (he still leads in TDs if I am right, and only what, 8 INTs?), and a vastly improved defense from last year.

Heck I have been watching some NFLnetworkFU and BSPN, they are barely even mentioning the Pack's win yesterday. Its absurd. But, I like under the radar (again hard to believe) and I am sure it is plenty motivating for all the boys to show these idots how badly they are rong.
