They are choosing a dude who hasn’t kicked in a game in 5 years, never played in the NFL, named β€œBlew it”. What could go wrong? 😳😳

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Football Teamreleased veteran kicker Dustin Hopkins, opting for a player who last kicked in a game five years ago.

The team signed Chris Blewitt, who was signed to their practice squad last week. He has never kicked in an NFL game and last played for Pitt in 2016. In four years with the Panthers, Blewitt made 69.6 percent of his field goals; he also missed four extra points in his last two seasons combined.

Hopkins was having one of his better seasons with 12 field goals in 14 attempts. His 85.7 percent success rate ranked 12th in the NFL

You can call Rodgers a diva or whatever all you want, looking at you GoalLine, but for this first time in a long time we appear to be actually attempting to plug obvious holes with veterans.

He put their feet to the fire and we are finally getting what so many of us wanted over the past 15 years.

Think this is much more about the philosophical differences between Brian and Ted than input from the QB (with the obvious exception of Cobb).

I agree with you.  I get the feeling that Gute is a much more aggressive GM who will take action as fast as he can to fix a problem on the roster.   Perhaps he meets with #12 to talk it over but we might not know for sure if that happens.

Personally, I don't think Ted every really had a big problem with free agents, I think he was concerned with overpaying and being able to afford to keep the talent they had already been developing. If Ted was still in charge I think we would still sign Smith, Mercilus, Kelly, etc. They're good, team friendly values.  I don't think Gute is asking permission to make these moves from Rodgers, but I'm guessing there is a lot of BTS recruiting by Rodgers. Whether that's coordinated with the FO or not, we're getting veteran discounts that are surprising. Sounds like Ted never really utilized that resource unfortunately.

IMO, the biggest difference between Ted and Gute is that Ted was much more inclined to hang on to his "chicks" aka his draft choices then Gute is. Ted in many cases really tried to keep giving chances to his players he drafted despite the fact that the writing was on the wall they sucked and weren't cutting it (think dudes like Datone Jones and Demarius Randall).

Gute seems much more willing to cut his losses and move on (most recent JK Scott, Sternberger).  And then after moving on, he trades for or signs upgrades like our new punter who's currently a stud.

I was having a good morning until you made me remember Datone Jones.

I guess Gutey had a reason not to spend that $10 million Henry was always crowing about.  He had plans to spend it when it counted. $10 million!!!!

Speaking of $10 million, Over The Cap now has the Packers at a little over $5 million left. And that's before the new contract. Jaylon Smith and the other newbies are accounted for. I'm thinking we are down to about $4 million or less once we get details of his deal.

$4 million, just sitting there.

A fun fact, Whitney Mercilus went two picks before Nick Perry.

5 million? In Henry’s world that should get us at least  Aaron Donald.

You actually believe this was his plan?

"We'll have a shit ton of injuries and I'll have to scramble in season to sign any player that gets cast off because of contracts.  Fingers crossed!"

That's some genius level FA planning right there.

Some of the stuff you guys come up with to credit the FO is serious galaxy brain shit.

Gunt FA strategy.
