why in the world would WFT release Dustin Hopkins?  That guy seems like a solid kicker.

Hopkins has missed a few clutch kicks over his WFT career and was bad last year. Most observers here in the DC area believe the wheels are coming off the car with the Ron Rivera regime and that Hopkins was sacrificed (for a guy who last kicked in live non-preseason competition in 2016 and who hasn’t taken an NFL regular season snap) because of a search for a scapegoat and to appear as if they are doing something.

WFT is very very close to imploding, football-wise, once again.

If Gyunt's bargain shopping pays off, I will be the first to praise him.  Glad he got Mercilus.  Really think he can still contribute good stuff with limited snaps.  I'm starting to wonder if we'll see Z again.

You actually believe this was his plan?

"We'll have a shit ton of injuries and I'll have to scramble in season to sign any player that gets cast off because of contracts.  Fingers crossed!"

That's some genius level FA planning right there.

Some of the stuff you guys come up with to credit the FO is serious galaxy brain shit.

Gunt FA strategy.

Jesus Christ on a Cracker. I think I struck a nerve. I expected a comment but not this biting.   I don't care if Mercilus did fall into Gutey's lap, at least he was smart enough to offer him enough money, and have enough in reserve,  so he didn't go somewhere else. Give credit for where it's due.

It’s amazing to me on how vocal z was the last couple years and he is radio silent all year - don’t know wtf is going on with that- I don’t even think I have seen him on the sidelines

Yeah.   Something is going on there.   Not getting the Captain nod.

Hopefully he recovers well from his surgery and contributes on a playoff run.  If not, his time in GB seems to be done.

He seems to be very sensitive, very vocal about being snubbed for pro bowl and all pro and now captain. He may be feeling very snubbed by GB for not dealing with his contract. Seems like he wants to be in GB, but the fact that he’s the #2 priority contract to deal with in β€˜22 to help the cap and they haven’t done anything with it yet tells me he’s not long for the team. Big cap savings with a post-June 1 release designation, same with Preston. I could see Preston being given a modest extension though.

Z got "star" notoriety his first year here, which he never experienced before. Was constantly being interviewed, had a great year, etc. However, the more in the spotlight, the more it became evident that his words did not carry the same thought / depth as players like AR, Lewis & Adams. That, along with a decrease in production last season, and his preseason injury, no doubt led to him not being voted a captain. A perceived "fall from grace" is difficult to deal and often leaves people bitter and looking to assign blame.

So how serious is Z's surgery for his back?  I probably have just missed updates on his status so what is going on?

@RobDemovsky: Preston Smith’s consecutive-games streak may hit 103 after all. He practiced Friday for the 1st time since his oblique injury vs. the Bears Sunday. He’s never missed a game in his 7 NFL seasons.

Only DNPs: Josh Myers, Dennis Kelly.

Expect Lucas Patrick at C again Sunday.

If there's even the slightest problem with Preston's oblique, I'd rest him against the 'skins and see how much better he might be for Thursday.  Especially if Mercilus is available for this Sunday.
