Jennings seeking piece of mind about injury
By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel Oct. 24, 2012 2:22 p.m.

Green Bay - Wide receiver Greg Jennings wasn't available to reporters today, but his teammates expressed some of the concerns he's feeling and their hope that he's able to figure out the quickest way to get back on the field.

Jennings went to get a second opinion on his injured groin in hopes of finding out why it's taking him so long to return from the injury.

When asked if Jennings was concerned about the time it was taking and sought out the second opinion, coach Mike McCarthy said, "Correct."

Wide receiver James Jones said that Jennings, who has sat out the last three games while trying to get healthy, mostly wants to find out exactly what his injury is and whether there's anything else he can do to get back on the field.

Players have the right to seek a second opinion that the club must pay for and usually it's to see a specialist. The Packers have been known to send players to specialists on their own when an injury takes longer than normal to heal.

"I just want him to figure out exactly what it is," Jojnes said. "You don’t want to be trying to come back on an injury or out there running and testing on an injury and you don’t know exactly what you have.

"Hopefully he can go out there and find exactly what he has. And they’ll be able to treat it."

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers said that Jennings wants to get back on the field badly, but the injury is not allowing him to do what he needs to perform.

"I can’t speak for Greg. I haven’t seen him yet today," Rodgers said. "We want him to come back as quickly as he can, but he’s got to do what’s best for his body. I know his toughness and how badly he wants to be on the field. If he can’t be out there, you know it’s got to be something significant."

Jones said he went through a similar situation a when he had a knee injury that kept getting worse every time he played. He told Jennings that it takes patience and that you have to get completely healthy or risk re-injurying it every time you play.

"I just talk to him about understanding what he’s going through, because I went through the same thing a couple of years ago with my knee," Jones said. "Practice on it all week and then fall on it in a game and then I can’t even get up and run. Then you’ve got to sit out the next week

Not trying to be a doom-n-gloomer here but when you're going for a 2nd opinion that can't bode well.

Sports hernia? Surgery? Unfortunately that's what is swirling 'round my head.

Greg Jennings?! I think the team is being smart with him. His game is predicated on precise route running and getting in and out of cuts. He does it as well as anyone in the game but it puts an excessive amount of stress on the exact muscle that's injured right now. If the muscle is torn it can take a while to recover. That he came back once already and played on it injured should tell us everything we need to know about if he wants to win now, imo. That it got re-injured makes it a prudent decision to be patient with it this time.

Hayward ready to expand role
packers.com

“I feel pretty comfortable,” Hayward said of playing both outside and inside. “The big thing is just knowing the defense. I feel like I have a grasp of the defense. I’m still trying to learn it like the back of my hand but, overall, I’m pretty much getting a grasp of it.”

Hayward has had no trouble obtaining a grasp on the ball. Mike McCarthy spoke last week about Hayward getting his hands on a few passes in practice, and the head coach said he did so again on Wednesday, the first practice of the work week in preparation to play Jacksonville on Sunday.

“Anytime you take a rookie and play him in a couple different positions in a multi-scheme defense, I think that says a little bit about the young man,” McCarthy said.continue

I read two articles stating Shields was kicked in the shin.

Shields with a shin injury of some kind. Perry with a knee. I gotta think Perry will be out longer than Shields.
Sucks to hear, but they could get him back around the end of the season. Just means more of Cobb, which is what they should have been doing earlier anyway

Getting a fresh and healthy Woodson and JEnnings at the end of the year will be nice. They just need to take care of business for the time being. Hopefully Raji/Shields/Perry can return soon

Jordy Nelson's hamstring injury sounds a little worse than first thought. Won't practice tomorrow, might test Sat or Sun.

McCarthy: Whichever way Jennings decides to go, think we're dealing with same timeframe.

Jennings will be speaking with the team on what his plan is regarding treatment(continue rehab or go for surgery). NOT season ending.
