Mack isn't a dummy; considering the stakes, I'd bet he's in prime physical condition. "Football shape" will come quick enough, and he'll be a PITA Sunday night. His successes, or lack thereof, will depend entirely on OL health.

Chicago and Mack reached an agreement on a record-setting, six-year, $141 million extension on Saturday, per Schefter. The deal includes $90 million guaranteed and a $60 million signing bonus

Along with Mack, the Bears will get a 2020 second-round pick and a conditional 2020 fifth-round pick. The Raiders will get a 2019 first-round pick, 2020 first-round pick, 2020 third-round pick and a 2019 sixth-round pick, per Schefter.

Seems like a lot to give up to me.   Bears better hop Turburski is the real or else.....................

Saw this on Twitter:

In the words of Jeff Garcia, "Jon Gruden likes to date players, not marry them"

Never commits to big talent (esp QBs) because big contracts are admitting they are good.

An admittance that they are good means he forfeits the "we need the right guy" excuse when team starts losing”

Ouch!

I would have loved to see him in G&G but he just isn't worth that price.

We've seen the Bears make some stupid deals over the last couple seasons.

During the draft the swap of picks from #3 to #2 overall with the Niners to draft "biscuit" - Now this trade. Khalil Mack is an excellent player & a good man off the field too. But no player short of a franchise QB or LT is worth that much.

Here's the thing though...they have a young QB on a rookie deal. They're trying build a great defense. They have an excellent RB. Sound familiar? It should....it's how Seattle won their Super Bowl. They're going for it now which makes sense because if they can win a Championship, their QB is going to cost a truckload of money that they won't have.

Interesting moves.....let's see if it translates to winning football on the field.

I think everyone with a young QB is trying to emulate Philly. This wasn’t a Philly type move though, Philly was able to spend a lot on a bunch of good/really good players. Chicago just speant A LOT on one great player. Philly took chances and built quality depth, same as Seattle, they didn’t blow their wad on one player. Mack is great for sure and will be a fixture there for a while, but I’d rather spend 25 million per year on 3 good pass rushers instead of one great one.

I also think the Bears made this move to keep Mack away from Green Bay.

They're already terrified of Rodgers. Imagine Rodgers with an actual defense. The other 31 teams would already be planning for September 2019.

Reggie McKennzie said over 1/2 of the league asked about acquiring Mack in a trade. He said he narrowed the list down to focus on teams offering a 2019 first (as the starting point) that represented the highest possible pick in next years draft.

Meaning GB would have probably needed to offer more than Chicago to stay in the conversation.

Reggie’s no dummy. On the other hand. How many inquiries do you get to before you start wondering if trading Mack is the right course of action? 10? 15?

Reggie is no dummy but he's completely de-balled as Gruden has final say in everything.

RM didn't want to trade Mack at all. RM built the Raiders & Gruden is inheriting the team just like in Tampa when he took over for the classy Tony Dungy.

Gruden is a coaching leech.  I don't get knee capping McKenzie like that.

Besides Fischer, who could seemingly create some kind of coaching aura based on nothing, Gruden slides in and rides coattails to inflect some kind of faux coaching genius.

That Garcia quote is a hell of a summary.

I hope Reggie walks and finds a GM position that gives him the respect he deserves.  That team isn't complete yet but Reggie has done a ****load of building.

There is a theory that this fine looking dude here didn’t have adequate cash flow to pay Mack the signing bonus he was going to demand. Davis has just about all his money tied up in the Vegas move.

Mark Davis has long been viewed as the brokest assed NFL owner. So there just might be something to the story.

Coming to a field (and Rodgers glass collarbone) near you soon....

Actually, I like this. Continues in the mold of Butkus, Singletary, and Urlacher.
LBs are the tradition in Chitcago, and he'll be a PITA just like the aforementioned gentlemen were PITAs during their careers.

I suspect Mr. Rodgers will be just fine, and Mack had better be in good shape to run down Graham, Lewis, and Tonyan after he watches them catch another pass.
   TBSS.

I will take the under that Gruden sees half of that 10 year contract.  It may very well be that Davis doesn’t have the cash for such a big SB.

i don’t know how McKenzie didn’t know that he was going to be squeezed by Gruden when Gruden was brought in.  I am very impressed with what he has done in Oakland working for Davis.
