I expect historic numbers from this historic defense.

"Red Ass" is the new "relax", which if i ever hear again someone will get the pimp hand.

I have no doubt the Packers will finish up with a good record.  Too bad it doesn't mean anything in the playoffs.

I'm normally a pessimist but I think the Packers dominate this one.

- Showed signs of life.

- McStupid Face is all about the division games.

- Packers are a different team at home.

- The Lions are horrible and they know their season is over.

Will be a lot of guys on the other sideline fighting for their livelihoods. From DetroitLions.com:

Detroit Lions owner Martha Firestone Ford spoke to the team Monday about the recent changes and her expectations moving forward.

Detroit Lions owner Martha Firestone Ford addressed the media last Thursday after she decided to relieve team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew of their duties.

On Monday, she addressed her team. Ford spoke at the 2 p.m. team meeting. She introduced interim general manager Sheldon White, interim COO Allison Maki and spoke about her expectations for the team moving forward.

Players said she spoke passionately and was very direct with her expectations...

Too early but I'm sure everyone will see an ass whoopin by GB but I don't see 50.  At home where they have been undefeated for a while, get some key guys back, vs. a very struggling team.  Count me in.  Playing DET couldn't have come at a better time.  They need to gear back up for their trip to MIN.

They should win handily but there will still be signs that problems on both sides of the ball are not yet "fixed".

I'm expecting an epic pounding. The defense should thoroughly dominate, and the offense doesn't take their foot off the gas until well into the 4th.

They're frustrated. They're angry. Football is the best spirt in the world for the frustrated and angry..

They were frustrated and angry after DEN, but some dismissed the poor play out west to... oh, it was an AFC opponent and didn't mean anything for HFA

I bought into that a bit too and expected a better game @CAR, but again they crapped the bed with a piss poor 2nd qtr.

As I said on page 1 of this thread, how they win will tell us a lot about what the season holds. I do expect them to win though.

So if its Randall, Goodson and Gunter, with Hyde as the slot again. Stafford, Megatron and crew could very well wreak havoc on our secondary.

With respect, Doug, I disagree.  Yes, I'm disillusioned and very disappointed right now.   But we had that loss against the Chiefs in 1996 that felt bitter, yet we went on and won the SB.   We had losses and lots of injuries in 2010 en route to another SB (or was it 2011?)

Heyward has been a liability in my eyes.  He's under concussion protocol, so I'm not counting on him.  If it were me he'd be riding the bench unless/until he earned the job back. Sure, Gunter is a rook, but I think he has the potential to be da@ned good!  I also want to see Jayrone E. on the field more!

Lacy looks awful.  I personally like Starks, but I'd like to see Alonzo activated and getting some carries too.  We can't keep trying the same stuff we have in the last 2 games and expect different results.

As for Megatron, he looks more like Minitron to me these days.  Stafford means lots of chances for INT's, IF he plays.  Aren't they starting someone else on Sunday?

I was glad to see Rip play.  We need to get him into the game more too.  TE Rodgers is looking horrible.  Can Perillo or Backman block?  I think Perillo CAN catch!

I want to see Mike have the balls to yell at people if necessary and move people around and try something NEW to shake them up and let them know they have to perform or perish at this level!

I also want Mike to call plays again!   Just looking at Arod on the sidelines and before the snap there's a look there in his face that worries me.  He looks doubtful, nervous and discouraged.  I can't remember that look in his face before this.  Let's go back to Mike's play calling!

At least last week they actually ran a screen pass like I've been yelling for!  Slow down the rush by doing more of that, and then try a deep one to Adams, Cobb or Janis!  Keep 'em nervous!

Okay, this is unsettling:

“I think the operation has gone well,” Clements said Monday. “I think I said it last week, too, we haven’t played consistently, as consistently as we’d like to. But the operation has been fine.”

If by "operation has been fine" he means "a disaster," then I would agree!

Actually it is insulting

I completely agree with this. Gunter may be a better solution jumping in with the starters. A move like this comes as a result of injury, instead of potential, but I'd be happy to see Gunter on the field more.

Also, if they need help on the OL, and our TE situation is questionable, why not add another OL? Should help with both the pass and the run, giving Aaron more time to throw and our RBs better holes to run through.

The screen pass or quick passes to the wide outs is something in my opinion needs to be called more.

Play calls are mainly dictated by what defense the other team is in (or what you think they'll be in). Carolina's defense was playing differently with the lead than they were earlier in the game, thus different plays were called (and were successful), that may not have neccessarily had the same result againt a different defensive alignment.

It's called garbage time

Means nothing.  Every year it s a different team. The Detroit franchise has not won in GB since the pyramids were granaries. Not this Detroit team.

i don't think this Lions team will end the streak.

At this point, other teams must be thinking that the Packers are vulnerable and keeping AR uncomfortable will be a priority.  AR needs to connect a couple times to make them pay for it and re-establish that respect along with his own confidence. I don't expect our defensive woes to be completely solved in this game and we'll probably see some more sloppy play on that side of the ball. I agree that getting up early will take the starch out Lions. This game should be good medicine.

I think we just expect AR to work his way out of trouble ever play....roll him out of the pocket once in awhile.

Agree.  Historically he has been able to escape when it is only 1 or 2 O-linemen losing containment.  When they all do it, it is all but hopeless.

Even when he can escape, it looks like the receivers are just standing there watching, or kind of jogging with their hand up.  They aren't doing enough to get open or come back to the ball after the play breaks down, IMO.

This. On a play action fake. Like Manning did Sunday night.

I loved that play, Didn't think Manning was would still be able to throw back in the opposite direction. Fooled a lot of folks.

The Packers need a Domectomy.

A shakeup in the Green Bay Packers coaches assignments?

Packers alter offensive operation

If your eyes were fixed on Aaron Rodgers throwing down his tablet in frustration Sunday, you might have missed which assistant coach picked it up.

Quarterbacks/receivers coach Alex Van Pelt, who worked from the coaches’ box in the first seven games, was back on the sideline during the 37-29 loss to Carolina. His move was made official Tuesday when he was listed back on the sideline in the team's weekly release with assistant offensive line coach Mike Solari replacing him in the coaches’ box.

Van Pelt coached from the sidelines in his first three seasons with the Packers, but moved upstairs when Tom Clements was promoted to offensive play caller this offseason. With Clements' return to the field, Packers coach Mike McCarthy chose Van Pelt to serve as the offense’s eyes in the coaches’ box.

Despite the offense’s struggles in the first half of the season, McCarthy has reiterated that he doesn’t plan on resuming play-calling responsibilities. However, he hinted at making a small change during his Packers.com podcast before Sunday’s game against the Panthers.

“Frankly, we’re going to make an adjustment this week and we can talk about it Monday,” said McCarthy at the time. “In hindsight, job responsibility, we go through a change – I probably might have asked too much from Tom. Tom is an excellent play caller; him and Aaron are connected. I don’t have a concern about that.”

McCarthy: Starks is No. 1 back right now.

Green Bay - The following is a summary of Packers coach Mike McCarthy's Wednesday pre-practice press conference:

  • (On Detroit without Suh) Their defense is excellent. You watch them on tape, lot of similarities. They're playing hard. We feel they're a good defense.
  • (On offensive line) Is a strength. We're counting on them to perform. Last two weeks there's things we can all learn from.
  • (On Van Pelt to sideline) We had two plans going into season. Just watching it having Tom do what he was doing in the past and call plays we thought was good. Alex was up top. The benefit of having Mike Solari on the field was something the offensive staff felt would be a bonus. Fact is the matter, with the tablets we have the quality of info is better and take that into account. So we made the adjustment.
  • (On Clements role) Get him into the mindset that he doesn't need to get into coaching the position. Now he can get ready for the next series. Before he was going through every single picture [with Rodgers] and then getting ready for the next series. Frankly, it’s also the product of our young coaches’ development with David Raih and Luke Getsy and their knowledge and ability to communicate. I liked having Alex's experience up there in the beginning.
  • (On running game) We have a new plan this week. Rarely been around a team that's been able to run with such few attempts. The number of opportunities is important.
  • (On Rodgers) I think the biggest thing is to not overreact and I definitely don’t see that from Aaron. He’s reacting a lot like our coaches. His time he spent here yesterday getting onto the next opponent. Getting an earlier start and heightened sense of urgency.
  • (On NFC North) Have to take care of your division. We have a regimen we go through each and every year in prepartion. These the most important games of the year. We understand the importance of each game.
  • (On Lions coaching changes) Make sure you're ready for sideline adjustments.
  • (On mental errors on line) Anytime you go through course of season, areas of team you focus on. Evaluation process you go through.
  • (On Lacy) I think Eddie will go full go.
  • (On blocking by backs, receivers) Part of the blocking unit. Second-level blocking responsibilites. It's not one guy.
  • (On Shields, Rollins, Hayward) Hoping to get more information.
  • (On what’s on his play sheet) It’s four sheets, actually. It’s down from six. So I was cutting back. … Each season is different I’m evaluating personnel more than anything in the preseason. Those are the things I was focused on in the preseason. I could call all three phases if I wanted to. It's not going to happen though.
  • (On James Starks) He's No. 1 back right now. I've not a big believer in riding one. We'll go one-two punch.
