No time to rehash the past. First place on the line on a short week.

Have to assume Barclay, Perry, and Shields will be hard pressed to go this week. Hopefully Newhouse' plane ticket gets lost. Flynn won't get a lot of reps with the starters but the ones he gets will help.

Loins have crapped the bed for two weeks leaving the door open.

Lets do this!!!!

I would have thought the Pack would have had to go 10-6 to win the North, but now 9-7 or even 8-8 might do the trick.  This awful division is up for grabs.

Agree that Flynn gives the Pack a fighting chance.  I thought he looked solid yesterday.  Tolzien was a step above Wallace, and Flynn was a step up from Tolzien.

The problem isn't the pain though...it's the bone itself. If it isn't healed and he takes a shot there, he risks a much more serious injury. It doesn't help when you have a folding chair playing RT.

I don't think the odds are good that AR starts. Seems like the following week is just more likely given it gives the bone an extra week and a half to heal.

Regardless of AR's status, here's what I hope to see on Thursday:

1) Enough with Newhouse. If Barclay can't go, put in Sherrod. If he isn't able to play yet, then why was he activated? They need someone to man that RT position.

2) Can we please put Lattimore on the field? If that means less Jones and Hawk, fine. The defense looked better when he was on the field even though CM III was out.

3) Matt Flynn needs to start if A-Rod can't go

Because this division is not so good, I have to believe that this game is not exactly a "must win" although it is close.  I have a hard time believing our defensive backfield has the talent without Shields to even slow down the Lions' receivers.  So hopefully, the defensive front shows the F up and put some pressure on the QB and that the O-line grow some balls and pass block!   If this happens, then Flynn can win this game.  Hell, I'd even take another tie.  But, I would not play AR; not with our o-line.

Packers injuries: Franklin DNP; Lattimore quad DNP; Neal LIM;Newhouse shoulder LIM; Perry LIM; Shields LIM; Sitton back DNP

McCarthy: "Aaron Rodgers … he would like to go. Frankly, based on the info where we are, I would say he's slim to none."

McCarthy does NOT commit to Matt Flynn as the starting QB at Detroit. "We need to get two quarterbacks ready."

MM: With four days, it's difficult to get anybody ready. We have to make sure they're both ready

MM: Matt Flynn played very well. He deserves to start. I like how Scott Tolzien has grown. Do best they can that they're ready

MM: AR has to do some things with the rehab group. We actually changed our practice format for tomorrow. 5 quarters stressed the team more

More McCarthy on Rodgers: "If he doesn't practice Wednesday, he won't play in the game."

MM: Matt Flynn wasn't really prepared to run the no huddle. Great credit to him.

MM: I've never called a game like it was called and we're not going to call it anymore. Credit to staff/players to get things to work

McCarthy: "Face it, man. You play different football with Aaron Rodgers than you play with the other quarterbacks."

MM: We didn't get to many of the things that we didn't have on the playsheet. We had to go a different direction we haven't done before

MM: Flynn has a very good recall. We tried to do things with him we've done in prior years. There's a lot of coaching going on during series

MM: Our run defense needs to be better, special teams needs to make plays, we need to get the points down. That's the excitement of fball

MM on defensive game plan: Watched it this morning with the defensive staff. Very talented, organized defensive staff.

MM: I'm very comfortable with our coaching staff.

McCarthy on run D: Time and time again we had excellent leverage but we didn't finish the play. We didn't do a good job finishing.

Do you think an NFL game should end in a tie?
"Good offseason question. Too hard for me to think about. It felt a little bit like you didn't win. Felt like we lost the game."

MM: It felt like we lost the game. I think that gave us both an opportunity to win the game and neither one took advantage of it

MM: "I thought about running it in third and fourth down (in OT)."

MM: Thought about running it on third and fourth down based on where the ball was in overtime. I was considering a four-down run mindset

MM: "If I was in a fourth down mindset, I would have run it on third down."

MM: CJ Wilson is something between his ankle and his knee. Feels better today. Aware of Lacy's asthma. Told staff nothing he's worried about

MM on 2 pt play: There are other components than the card. Flow of the game, that was the right decision.

The three biggest statements I took from the presser today (and the latter two are related):

Packers injuries: Franklin DNP; Lattimore quad DNP; Neal LIM;Newhouse shoulder LIM; Perry LIM; Shields LIM; Sitton back DNP

McCarthy: "Face it, man. You play different football with Aaron Rodgers than you play with the other quarterbacks."

MM: Flynn has a very good recall. We tried to do things with him we've done in prior years. There's a lot of coaching going on during series

Newhouse might be hurt [enough] to give Sherrod a shot - or Barclay is back. Barclay was considered Limited today in the workouts - not a practice.

I've been critical of McCarthy for being stubborn / not creative when the personnel groups change, but he publicly commented on playing different without Rodgers, and in the game yesterday went to stuff with Flynn from the past that wasn't in the game plan. There is hope for him!

Of course the Packers cannot go 9-7 or 8-8 after the tie game.

Free - I think he was referring to the plays he called for Flynn that were not part of the game plan and he plans to be more/better prepared this week.

A couple of tweets not previously posted that supports this thinking.

MM: Conversation we had last night/this morning, we have to get two QBs ready. We're taking a hard look at our preparation.

McCarthy: "Had a lot of moving parts – more than ever. I’m not just trying to be dramatic."

For those asking 'LIM' is limited. Trying to save space. Interesting MM said Barclay, Perry and Shields could have done something today

Getting 1 of these 3 back (preferably Barclay) would be huge.

You got me on that one.

Let's just say I thought 10 wins would be required to win the division. 8 or 9 might do the trick.  Hopefully we don't see too many more tie games though.

I could see 9-6-1 getting it done, but will Packers be able to get to 9? Assuming a loss this week, they'd have to beat Atlanta, Dallas, Pittsburgh and Chicago. Doable, but by no means easy.

If this were the case, we'd be one of the hottest teams going into the playoffs.

What does that mean?

My intent is not to bash MM, but I have no freakin  idea.

defense has to play better to win this one. If they play the way they've played the past 4 weeks it'll be really tough to win.

I do think that this is being falsely portrayed as a "must-win" for the Packers. Packers could run the table once Rodgers comes back and win the division at 9-6-1.

Which two QBs is McCarthy referring to??  Do we assume he means Z and Flynn?  IS he not naming the starter on TH for a reason?

I thought that the 3rd String QB can only play if the other two got hurt....and...the 3rd Stringer doesn't count towards the 46 active for the game???

or was the "emergency QB" ruled changed?

if not....put Flynn and AR down as the QB's...if AR can't go because he's "injured", the Flynn steps in..if Flynn gets hurt...then the emergency QB comes in.

That went away a couple of years ago when the game day roster was increased to 46.  That's why Wallace was the only QB available when AR got hurt against the Bears--Nelson was the emergency QB.

They won't take Hawk off since he's the QB of the defense, even though he's generally horrible; Jones isn't going anywhere because they just gave him a 3yr/$12m contract this year. The only way Lattimore gets on the field this year is if one of the two are injured. It's not impossible that they'll jettison one of the two after the season, but I'm not holding my breath.
