Just read his bio on Wiki and it looks like the guy knows how to caoch QBs. Could this be the guy who finally makes Cutler a winner? Maybe the bigger question is Cutler willing to be coached?

This is great, the Bears will do a big flip flop. They will go from being a team with a really good defense and inconsistent offense to a team with a really good offense and an inconsistent defense.

I'll try and find a few quotes, but Trestman has said on several occasions in the past something to the effect of, "The QB position is the most important position on the field. He has to the be the hardest working guy, he always has to do the right thing and he has to carry and present himself in a way that reflects that to his team". Good luck with that Marc...
I'm not sure Cutler is too keen on having a really good year and then answering questions about what Marc did to finally get his mind right. I also think Trestman knows he has his hands full with Cutler. Marc isn't the most confrontational guy in the world. He's pretty low key.
The Raiders thought so much of Trestman and Kromer in 2001 that they gave the HC job to Bill Callahan after Gruden was traded. Al Davis was wearing diapers, eating gravel, and washing the gravel down with liquid benzene by 2001, but still.

There's always the possibility this guy takes off, wins a few SBs and has every GM bringing in Canadian coaches. But as a betting man, my hunch is that this has a better chance of not working out.
And given the unorthodox approach Emery took, this will crash and burn in a dazzling display if this doesn't work out far more so than a hire like Arians would have. This has a very real chance of being Phil's only bite at the apple.

I hope Marinelli leaves so they have to start all over with that D, personnel and otherwise. If that happens I don't think Trestman/Emery will make them a juggernaut already next year.

.The more I read about this guy, the more I like the hire. Will he be successful? Who the hell knows (my crystal ball broke). However, I'm cautiously optimistic. What choice do I have?
Here are the things I like:
He's not a retread, or the latest 30-something wunderkind du jour.
He's a QB guru who has historically involved his RBs in the passing game.
He's smart enough to keep Rod Marinelli as DC.
He's had success at every football position he's been appointed.
Here are things I don't like:
He seems a little too "Lovie-like" for my tastes.
Out of the NFL since '04 (at least he was winning Grey Cups, not selling used cars).
Other than that, I don't have many complaints. Incidentally, here is a quote from his first presser: "We're going to win the Super Bowl, win the division, and beat the Toronto Argona...er...Green Bay Packers!"

The question really is if Trestman is a great leader. I subscribe to the belief that your head coach must be a great leader first and foremost. This is the guy who has to corral all the players' egos; coordinate the OC and DC who both believe they should be head coaches; get buy in from position coaches who are all hungry to move up; and at the same time, set and maintain a vision that everyone buys into. That takes leadership skills, not necessarily great coaching skill. Fortunately for us, I have only heard about Trestman's coaching ability and not his leadership skills. TBSS. 
I had mentioned back in a previous thread that I watched him here in Raleigh for a few seasons as our OC. While a smart Xs and Os guy, Trestman never struck me as a leader. Im shocked he got an NFL HC gig at this point. It was even rumored that he doesnt interview well.
He was given the Asst HC job in Miami years ago but promptly fired. He definitely is a retread journeyman if you look at his bio.
We were shiddy offensively under him as well (this was not Rivers or Russell Wilson years) and he was fired.
Im surprised with the talent level in CHI and its great history & fan support that it could not land a better candidate.
