not stupid

Exactly. He made 21 million by coming out when he did.

Johnny Davis is on pace to go down as one of the worst top 10 picks of all time. He is by almost any statistical measure one of the worst players in the NBA the last two years.

By PER (one advanced stat), he is the 517th ranked player in the NBA (and almost everyone below him are two-way guys that have barely played). His career shooting splits are 37/23/55. He can't shoot. He can't defend. His net rating for his career is -33. He's a total embarrassment for the Wizards right now. He doesn't even play well when he goes to the G league (he's below 30% shooting from three in the G league).

You could argue that he would have benefitted from more time in college, but I think it's more likely he got hot for a two month stretch and parlayed that into 21 million dollars. If he comes back to college and regresses, he probably falls into the second round of the draft or heads over to Europe (where he's going to be really soon anyway).

Henry Ellenson wasn’t much better.  Declared for the draft after one decent year at Marquette and parlayed that into the 18th overall pick in 2016.

First round status and money is a lot to pass up IMO.

Ellensen wasn't very good either, but he hasn't been completely unplayable. His per 36 minutes stats would be 16/9/2 with 37/34/77 splits. His 2 point shooting is poor, but his PER is 10.7 in 83 NBA games which indicates a fringe roster player. He was also selected 18th overall. Ellensen is also close to an all-star G league player (20/9/2 per game with 47/38/83 shooting splits in a lot of career games).

Davis as 10th overall and his per 36 minutes stats are 11/5/2 with 37/24/55. His PER is 4.8 this year in the NBA. He even sucks in the G league (11/3/1 with 39/29/79).

Ellensen is the classic good college player who is fairly skilled and who would have had an NBA career as a backup big guy had he played prior to Steph Curry changing the game and playing slow-footed post players off the floor. Johnny Davis would have been terrible in any era.

I was never convinced Davis was going to thrive in the NBA, but I didn't think he'd be this bad. The reports out of Washington suggested they could tell he was in over his head as soon as he played in his first summer league games.

Mike Greenberg is an idiot.

UConn has two guys projected to be drafted and their NBA comps (according to this article) are Jacob Poeltl and RJ Barrett.

The Wizards and Pistons would beat UConn probably 99 times out of 100 by 20+ points.

More like 100 times out of 99 by 20+ points.

AJ wants to test the NBA waters.  Assume he is gone next year

A J does declare for the NBA draft but will maintain his college eligibility.  That means he will not hire an agent, correct?  Wonder what he is getting or could increase his NIL by staying in school?

Greenberg was already an idiot for being a Jets fan.  I have no idea what he actually brings to ESPN other than running his mouth.

The best UNLV team or Fab 5 Michigan team would beat UConn by 20 and even they would look stupid against NBA teams.

I turn on the local (well, out of Albany since no stations really serve the mid-Hudson Valley in terms of news) TV news after dinner most evenings mostly to get the weather, and literally the top story on the 6:00 news was a camera at the Albany Airport waiting for Caitlyn Clark's plane to land.

They cut back to one of the teams -- I think LSU -- and it was an Allegiant plane.

Yeah, this is what they think is important, but it could be worse considering it's a state capital and so often the "news" is press releases trying to get the state to impose one or another policy.  That and mug shots.

Illinois vs Iowa State……past my bed time, will watch till 10:00.  Iowa State looking pretty cold right now.  Gonna be a back and forth tomorrow night, Marquette and Purdont both play early.  Marquette on CBS. Purdont on TBS.

Watching……gonna be a nail biter…….TBS has Purdont on 7:30……will be flipping back and forth.  Rooting for Marquette.     and kinda for Purdont.   Just cause they’re Big 10 that’s all.
