Yes it has been discussed a number of times, and NO, this should not be Mark Murphy's decision to make.

This should be voted on by the fans, more specifically, all those who have purchased shares.

There's not a single valid reason to not let the fans decide this issue. There's no way in hell it should be Murphy's--or even the Board's--decision. They wanted our money, now let it mean something.

I will have a real problem if they slap that ass_hole's number up in Lambeau without asking for public input first.
There was some rumors a while back that to save Favre embarassment and to allow the Packers to do what they need to do (retire his number), that GB would hold a seperate ceremony for Favre that was not part of a game.

This way, those who wanted to attend would more then likely be Favre ball was...I mean Favre fans. And those at the ceremony handling the actual festivities would be guys he played with or who coached him. It's an interesting idea. I just don't know if GB would go that route.

If indeed MM is saying it's within 2 years, I can't see it going well if they do it at a game. A lot of bitterness still exists. A lot of Packer fans with long long memories. If I was at the game, I don't know that I'd boo. I respect what he did his years here on the field. But he's also a complete self centered douche bag who played for the Vikings entirely to stick it to the Packers, TT, MM and their fans. Spare me the the competitor, warrior BS. We all know the exact reason he kept playing.

I'm sure as hell not going to be applauding him.

Terrible idea. Personally, I'm OK with never retiring the number, but if it has to happen, it should happen after Thompson and McCarthy are gone.

You're not alone in that statement. I've heard that countless times. And almost all of them are not just Packer fans, they are also season ticket holders.

I would think such a ceremony would be held before kickoff. If that were the case, I'd tailgate until it was over and then go on in. That's just me. But my preference is that they NOT retire the number. That's an honor and brent pissed all over honor in the end.
What happened that even caused Murphy to make a statement like that? Was the question asked during an interview? If so who asked the question and how did it even come up?

The comment itself is ree got dam diculous. It's a little too matter of fact.

If the ceremony is held pre-game Lambeau should be as empty as the Viking trophy case.

Exactly. Favre himself chose to tarnish his own legacy. It was his choice and he should live the rest of his life with it. It shouldn't even be a debate.

I will repeat: if Lori Nickel's tweet is accurate it is appalling. Why the organization feels it still needs to cater to BF is puzzling to say the least.

All he's done since his departure is stick his middle finger at the Green Bay Packers. Calling the Queens the "best team he ever played on" and belittling Rodgers for not winning the Super Bowl sooner are just examples. The man himself clearly doesn't want it.

Add to it that the majority of fans don't want it, and Murphy's tweet is presumptuous and downright weird. BF has done everything in his power to make it clear he does not want to be associated with the team, and there they are kissing his ass? Why?

Murphy needs to take stock of who he works for, IMO.
The only way it should happen in one to two years is if Favre comes out and grovels and apologizes. Packer fans are forgiving and if he gets up and at least appears sincere then it will have a chance. Other than that, no way it works. Love and Hate are all part of the same coin and emotions are still too high to accept him back without an all out apology. Even Ron Wolf who is Favres biggest backer has said how upset he is by what Favre has done.

It may take a Ron Wolf to act as a mediator to get the situation resolved. Other than that, Favre may be the first person in the history of the game that has his jersey retired in Canton before the team retires it.

Retire it posthumously.

Totally agree, and am not advocating offing Favre--he threw away his chances for a respectful, celebratory retirement ceremony by backstabbing Packer nation. Having a number retired is a privilege, not a right.

In the meantime, the number should be used when needed. Isn't there a 3rd string punter in training camp in need of a single-digit jersey?
