Matt Garza signed a four-year, $50 million contract with the Brewers before last season.  Through eight starts in 2015, he's 2-5 with a 5.72 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman states that Milwaukee seems "especially interested" in trading Garza.  Heyman also writes: "Garza is another veteran right-hander who could help someone, but with $35-million-plus to go through 2017, one rival exec says, 'I'm not sure anyone would want him.'"  The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo believes the Brewers are "ready to sell" on Garza as well.

Considering his contract and Milwaukee's apparent eagerness to part ways, the price for Garza would not be high.  In Garin Cecchini, the Red Sox possess a third-base prospect with nowhere to go behind Pablo Sandoval.  On the other hand, the Brewers have 36-year-old Aramis Ramirez manning the position.  Ramirez will also be a free agent at season's end.

Why, exactly, should the Red Sox have an interest in Garza?  He was fairly decent in 2014, posting a 3.64 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .233 batting average.  Garza is also only 31 years old and has proven he can succeed in the AL East.  With the Tampa Bay Rays itching_standard">from 2008-2010, he went 34-31 with a 3.86 ERA in 94 starts.

I can't see the Red Sox doing this, but I would be on board.  I don't think Garza is as bad as he has been this year, but also don't see his stock going up that much even with better pitching.  The return is not much, but getting out from under that contract would be a bonus.

Cecchini would probably be at the top end of what the Brewers could expect to get as a return for Garza, especially with the way Garza has performed so far this year.  Cecchini's stock has fallen a bit, but at one time he was a top 50 prospect.  He doesn't have a lot of power and plays mediocre defense, but he projects to be a high, high OBP hitter in the majors.  I don't know what happened to the guy this year, if he's battling injury or is disappointed he has no where to go in the Red Sox organization.  But heading into this season he had a .396 OBP in the minors and a .361 OBP in a brief stint with the Red Sox last year.  I'd project him to be something like a .290/.370/.400/.770 hitter in the majors if it works out for him.  He won't be a superstar but I'd say chances are better than 50/50 that he will be an everyday major league player.

At this point anything back for Garza would be fine.  They should be saving money, banking it, for a run in 3-5 years at this point.  Come clean to the fans.. and say it.  Keep suppporting us, we will make a run again after the rebuild.

I think rebuilds are fun.. and something that is necessary to build a winner.  We did it ten years ago, time to take a few years here and do it again.

What is your basis for this projection?

If he were this good... I'd take it in a second.

His three year trend doesn't suggest this though.

Unlike Gomez, I would roll the dice and wait with Braun until the deadline.  Gomez is on basically a 1.5 year deal and I just see his value as declining everyday.  He looks to me like a guy that knows he has a contract coming up soon.. and is just trying to do too much, offensively, defensively, and on the bases.  Without the pressure of a playoff push i just see him as a guy that will take his eye off the ball of wins and more on his personal stats.

Back to Braun.  He has a very nice slash this last month, however, I think most teams will still be skeptical of him still.  If you have a 3 month slash as opposed to a one month slash with an OPS over 1.000 from him, I think you absolutely will get back a top level prospect for him as well as clear his money off the books.  I would target a team like Houston.  I think they might press to win too early.  This might be crazy, but if Braun is sitting on 25 HRs in July and a .300/1.000 slash line, I would send them Gomez(assuming we still have him in july)/Braun/K-Rod for Carlos Correa (SS), Vince Velasquez (P), and Domingo Santana (OF).  Correa is a generational talent in the same respect Braun was back in his minor league days.  They could move either Correa or Arcia to 2b.  The Brewers middle infield after this move would be the most exciting future tandem bar none in the MLB.

That would be a massive return for both teams and Houston would get a huge boost for their playoff push in areas of need.  This is the only kind of deal where I could see them giving up a player like Correa, you would have to send them 3 All-star caliber players as well as eat some contract (the brewers will have to in almost any deal involving Braun to maximize value).

Gomez would replace Marisnick in CF, Braun would replace Springer in RF or Rasmus in LF, and Rodriguez would go to the back end of their pen as their closer.  He's an improvement over Gregerson and would make their 9th inning much more imposing.

Looks like ex-Brewers prospect Dana Eveland opted out of his minor league deal with the Red Sox yesterday.  He put up a decent showing in Oakland recently, plus was carrying a 1.50 ERA in AAA Pawtucket.  His big knock is that he gets injured and he is now 31.

He will likely latch on to a team with imminent bullpen needs, but nice to see this guy finally start to right the ship and stay somewhat healthy.

He'd make sense to add here if we started moving bullpen pieces, but that wont happen until later in July or even into August.

Word is the team is waiting for the draft before they make a move (I don't know why the hell that is).  Hopefully the games begins soon.

Gomez and Lucroy.  These two could restock the entire farm.  Now, I hated always having the best farm system and fielding a ****ty team, but it was better than having a mediocre farm and a ****ty team.  Love both guys, but for the sake of the next ten years, they need to be sold to the highest bidder.  I give Gomez a 70% change to go, Luc about a 20% chance.

Lind.  Might bring back something.  He's a hitter again and healthy.  Probably our next best chip.

Krod.  I would love to get out of this contract.  Somebody needs to overvalue relievers with "closing experience" and Krod has boatloads of it.

Parra.  I could see him getting a low minors kind of guy.  Lots of teams could use a lefty stick who plays good defense.

Everything else is **** and will be traded for less smell ****.

EDIT- forgot about Segura.  Time to maximize the return on that guy

Think you nailed it EKB.  I think the summary though is - anyone and everyone should be available.  Some available for basically salary relief, some available for a $0.75 on the dollar scenario, many for value return, and a select couple that are only available if you get blown out of the water with the offer.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Brewers take a flyer in the draft with Aiken or Allard should they fall to 15.  Aiken is a potential #1 guy with a injury history, but I'd take that risk.  Allard was supposedly the best HS arm this year until his back injury.  I think the Brewers should be looking at those types with the first pick.

Just am burned out on college pitchers with our track record.  Funkhouser seems to be the most mentioned for the Brewers, and I can't help but think Arnett, Jungmann, Frederickson.

i would give you guys Syndergard and others for Braun. But the Wilpons will not want brauns contract. A New York team with Tampa BAy owners. I have no idea what else the Mets would want. They are already talking like 2016 is the year they plan to make a move. So I dont imagine it is anything too big. Alderson does not do a deal unless he can steal a player. I still have no idea how Toronto gave away the haul they did for RA Dickey.

They have a number of good SS options in the minors and if a team is willing to pony up for Segura I say you do it.

I view Gomez sort of the same way.  In a perfect world you would love to keep the guy but his deal is up in a year and a half and they aren't winning the Seties this year or next year so they should consider taking full advantage.
