There are several kids around where I live that ended up going to the University of Alabama. The reason is that graduation rates among the normal in-state student body are so low they are willing to invest money in giving almost full-tuition scholarships to out of state students to serve as role models even for parents that do not qualify for need-based aid. These Michigan kids went almost tuition-free to Alabama for 4 years. These are not the valedictorians, but very good students that got above average test scores. A 3.5 high school GPA and a 30 on the ACT will get you a ~90% tuition scholarship.

If that's the regular student body, you can imagine what goes on with the football teams at Alabama (or similar schools like Auburn or LSU).

Yes. I know the U of M President personally. He's an MD/PhD who trained with one of the most famous virologists in the world (Nobel Laureate David Baltimore). He got steamrolled by his Board of Regents and the wealthy alumni who wanted football and in-person classes.  My guess is that he and some others pushed back enough to be able to screen for the myocarditis. The SEC (and Ohio State which might as well be an SEC team) doesn't really care as much. I'd put Nebraska in that category as well.

So Nebraska wants to play Tennessee Chattanooga on Sat pending Big Ten approval.  Think they will?  They (Nebraska) will pay all travel expense plus up to $250,000.

They are already going to be down at least 12 players for the next 2-3 weeks. Even if they play the game (which is extremely unlikely) they'll be playing with a 4th string QB and who knows how many other backups.

There’s talk of reducing the 21 day requirement based on new medical findings.

Which leads me to a question my friends and I had this weekend.  How would it work for eligibility if the season would be cancelled?  Teams have full recruiting classes coming and if the season would be cancelled for one team but not others would the NCAA allow a team to have so many players on scholarship?

Really, if they can't play vs. Michigan in 2 weeks their season is effectively over.  They have to play a minimum of 6 games to make the Big 10 championship, and I think it is still 6 wins for a bowl game.

Yeah I said it.  Do you work?  Do you work In Wisconsin?  Do you have to physically travel to and from work and interact with others?   If you do, you would know what I’m talking about.  But you don’t.  You are in Illinois where they have exercised much more aggressive controls.  And don’t bother to respond with I don’t know what I’m talking about.  I go to work every day. Have been since March.  I also have a sister facility in Chicagoland.  I know what they are dealing with too.  It ain’t like WI.

The mentality in this state is disturbing to say the least.  Sure, people can do what they want.  And they do.  But you don’t get to 25-35% positivity rates by virtue of making good decisions. Or rational decisions.  

We just dealt with this as a family.  Youngest daughter was exposed to positive case.  We all ate shit for 14 days.  But it didn’t have to be that way.  Shouldn’t have happened.   Thank God my youngest that got sick and tested positive didn’t suffer too bad but has auto immune deficiency.  But hey, it’s all fake or doesn’t impact people!

So yes.  I’ve got 6+ months invested in this nonsense as I was roped into being a pandemic coordinator in my business.  So I do know WTF I’m talking about.  So save it for someone that cares.  As a nation we have butchered our response to the pandemic and we should act surprised when the chickens come home to roost?  I don’t think so.

You honestly didn’t think the UW football team wouldn’t be impacted?  Do they practice and play on Mars?   I don’t think so.  The good news is the genius HC had plenty of time to self reflect on how to wear a goddamn mask correctly and socially distance.  I mean, seriously?  Chryst might have an IQ of 160 but has the common sense of a 3 year old.  

If the Badgers end up canceling the season I would strongly consider firing Chryst and the other potential mofos that took this lightly or didn’t respond accordingly.  This isn’t a game.  It isn’t a hoax.   Sure you can get sick and recover just fine.  But you can get it and die. Or end up in the hospital like my father in law did and deal with lingering effects much later. My wife was a mess because he almost didn’t make it but hey, whatever works for you man.  

I’m sure plenty of other x4 members have dealt with it so hey throw yourself a party.

Anyone think Mertz will play?

4 bowls already cancelled:   Bahamas Bowl,  Hawaii Bowl, Red Box Bowl, and  Holiday Bowl.   I'm sure there are more to come.

C19 is raging all over the place which is odd because I thought it would disappear like a miracle after the election?  Now it’s the $EC that has a number of teams in jeopardy of canceling or rescheduling games.  I think it’s wishful thinking at best to think the college football playoffs or bowl games in general won’t be impacted in some way by the recent surge in cases.  If people don’t take reasonable steps and efforts it spreads like wildfire.

Getting pretty close to political here, which the owners will not tolerate. So both of you just cool it, or the owners may kick you out, permanently.

So, Tschmack, I take it you're not buying into the "it's just like the flu" bullshit being flung about by those who are clueless. Once again, for the clueless who wanted to open up our businesses, schools and States and then pack our bars and restaurants while not wearing masks or doing social distancing, this virus is 10X more virulent than the flu. You can get it and recover fully from it. Others can contract it and get permanent heart and lung damage and now, brain damage that looks like early dementia. Or you can get it and be put on a ventilator, just so you can breathe, and if it is severe enough, you may be able to say goodbye to your family on the various social media outlets because your family won't be allowed into the ICU/CCU where you are dying. EFF Sports! Because of anti masker and Covid deniers, the CDC has said we won't be able to get back to a normal way of life until the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2021( that's July 2021, at the earliest) and that is only if everyone wears masks in public, maintains social distancing everytime the are out in public, and if everyone washes their hands regularly. Since we know that will not happen, I think we will be dealing with this virus into the Spring of 2022. Anti maskers/ covid deniers, on my FB pages, have said that I am living in fear(the new right wing catch phrase for anyone who is concerned about this pandemic). I am living in fear when I see how they respond to a pandemic that has killed 240,000 Americans and that has infected 10 million of our citizens. Stay safe!

Ammo is right, I think we're heading down a bad road that is far away from the topic. Also please remember the rules on personal attacks. You can disagree, but there's no reason be a dick about it. I think it likely the Wisconsin outbreak came through the staff, rather than through the players. Most other hard hit schools show a preponderance of infection among the players. Wisconsin had roughly equal + tests among staff and players, even though there are far more players and they come in much more intimate contact with each other. While the students are largely controlled in their social interactions off the field, the coaches/ staff don't live in the dorms. They go home daily into the Madison area infection pool and there is no one monitoring/correcting risky behavior.

I think that’s probably right grignon.  From all indications students got hit hard in September but since then it’s been adults and younger kids that are driving the spread.   My 13 year old got it - likely from classmate and 15 year old daughter got it from her as did my wife. Household spread. I’m waiting to hear back on my results but currently feel OK.   But quarantining does suck.  

Football and football teams and programs present unique challenges for sure.   While games may be played outdoors, practicing, watching film, weight room is all indoors and people are sharing a lot of the same spaces and air.  Let your guard down for a minute and you likely got it.

Lots of talking heads this morning talking about $EC and many of the teams having issues with C19 spread.   They can push or reschedule games Dec 19 but that’s also the  conference title game date.  So not sure how that will play out.   Not sure the Big Ten will be immune either.
