Then there are those that βdo the right thingβ and report it. Are they suckers? The SEC knows the game... they know it and they rely on others not to or refuse to play.
There are several kids around where I live that ended up going to the University of Alabama. The reason is that graduation rates among the normal in-state student body are so low they are willing to invest money in giving almost full-tuition scholarships to out of state students to serve as role models even for parents that do not qualify for need-based aid. These Michigan kids went almost tuition-free to Alabama for 4 years. These are not the valedictorians, but very good students that got above average test scores. A 3.5 high school GPA and a 30 on the ACT will get you a ~90% tuition scholarship.

If that's the regular student body, you can imagine what goes on with the football teams at Alabama (or similar schools like Auburn or LSU).
