It's not the Niners, my friend. It was a historic **** show from our defense.

I think the comparison with Sanders is that M3 possibly stays loyal to a fault with some of his assistants. And really, how is this any different than Campen? They won a Bowl with him as a coach but it is OK to rip him up and down. I don't recall his units getting their asses handed to them in playoff situations as much as Capers' units have.

You do realize that the Packers were playing against a team with 2 weeks to prepare to scheme our second string D, have Top 5 RB, TE and top 20 WR's, and an QB that can run. If Kapernick only ran for 75 yards, and threw for 450 yards you'd be saying the same thing. Our offense is our defense and our offense dropped the ball, in the second half of the game.

CK Stats

This is all you need to see. He played in one less game than Alex Smith had almost as many TD's, more yardage. He rushed twice as many times against us, than any other opponent, but it is interesting to note that the one team he played twice and didn't beat (STL) if he would have rushed 16 times, he would have had approx. 130-170 yards (two games he was 8/66 and 9/84).

I think 2 weeks to prep is a good point but I'm not sure saying our defense was 2nd string is fair. Yes I think we definitely missed Perry and Bishop, but we weren't missing any other significant contributors IMO (Worthy wasn't contributing much as I recall).
How come the packers did not get 2 weeks to prepare? Oh yeah, defense blowing a 21 pt lead at Indy and the D allowing Mn to run all over them at the dump.

I recal posters here saying tha Capers was holding back in at Mn game, holding back what?

The Seattle debacle was a killer also but this team had time to make up for that screwing.
After the Giants kicked our ass in the playoffs last year I thought we get a shot at them again next season. Can’t wait for the revenge game, how did that work out for us?? Beginning to feel like the movie “Groundhog Day” all over again this year. At first I was pissed at Capers but then I thought hard about the injuries and hope we can get a healthy season in before Rodgers and company get too old.

And how do you prep for something you have never saw before? No one had ever seen the plays San Fran ran. Harbaugh said they saved it just fir the Packers. Yes Capers should have had some scheme to counter what the 9ers did, but getting about 10 minutes come up with a sucessful plan to stop what CK did is unrealistic.

The problem is Capers himself admitted what really killed them wasn't the read option, but CK just scrambling and getting outside the pocket. That's not a brand new concept to prepare for or adjust to.

So then it goes back to what's been debated for days now - is it bad players or bad coaching (or both).

I don't think it could have been any worse. That performance was historically bad.

I do agree that the turnovers pretty much screwed the Packers out of any chance of winning. The defense got tired.
AZ finished 12th in total D in 2012. One spot behind GB. Go back and take a look at the injury chart in the "Injury" thread that was locked down (for good reason) and compare games lost between GB and AZ.
From the article:
quote:
Any team that runs or wants to run a 3-4 defense will be interested in a man who played in the NFL for a decade and cut his teeth as an assistant under the legendary Dick LeBeau in Pittsburgh

And LeBeau cut his teeth as a secondary coach learning the 3-4 under Dom Capers.

Horton seems like a good coach. But nothings changing unless GB can get to the playoffs with a healthy defensive roster.

When the time comes for Dom to call it a career I hope his replacement is a guy already in GB like Whitt, Moss, Perry, or Trgo.
