The Mississippi Supreme Court says it will not remove NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre as a defendant in a civil lawsuit that seeks to recover millions of dollars of misspent welfare money.

Three justices issued a brief ruling Wednesday.

They affirmed a trial court judge's decision that Favre must remain as a defendant in the civil lawsuit filed by the state Department of Human Services.

Prosecutors say millions of welfare dollars for low-income Mississippi residents were squandered on projects supported by wealthy or well-connected people from 2016 to 2019. The department sued more than three dozen people or businesses in 2022 to try to recover some of the money.

I just don't get it, but maybe that's why I'm closer to being broke than I am being wealthy.
$5M should be pocket change for Bert. I understand using other people's money is better than using your own, but still... if he needed to finance it, I'm sure he could've got a deal with favorable rates and maybe there would be tax benefits from using your own money.
But, instead, complex plans are made that involve questionable deals, and they wind up spending more on the cover up than they did acquiring these monies.
So Bert may wind up paying $11M to acquire $5M. And may spend some time in a cell with Todd Chrisley for good measure.

My former father in law was a wealthy real estate developer. He once told me that he never uses his own money on his real estate investments.

I assume that guys that get involved with these complex plans and questionable deals get away with it most of the time and that’s why they’re willing to risk it. Most of them are probably way smarter than Bert though.

He's not in a mess because of volleyball or his daughter, he's in a mess because of his own actions toward those things.

He's probably in a mess because for one of the few times in his life, he got caught doing the types of things he's probably gotten away with dozens of times.

I don't think for a minute this is the first time Favre was involved with this type of thing. Wasn't there something years ago about his brother signing official merchandise on his behalf when Brett got too busy?

I would bet there are a lot of tax avoidance strategies that Bert has used over the years that are questionable. The difference between Bert and other wealthy people is that other wealthy people use consultants and advisors that make sure things are legal. I think Favre is probably too cheap to do that.

Brett is such an idiot. If only he would have taken a hammer and destroyed them he could have run for political office and probably gotten elected and then pardoned himself.  Idiot....

Man, what is worse than having to be admonished for getting something rong right after you've admonished someone for getting something rong?

That’s called marriage.
