Nick Perry to IR

Wow, two years in a row with our first round picks, Sherrod and now Perry. Maybe this opens a roster spot for Quarless, as we got Zombo back and I don't know if there is another LB worth running out to sign

Raiders released So'oto today.

So'oto was released by the Raiders today as well. Not sure how desperate the Packers are but the option is there. Off the top of my head I'm guessing Zombo is the replacement guy for Nick. Not sure if So'oto still has practice squad eligibility. I'm guessing not as the limit is 9 games and So'oto has played in 11 over two years.

I just hope he didn't catch whatever Mike Neal has had for the last 3 years.

Seems odd. Injured his wrist in week 1 and then played the subsequent games.

I haven't located a story on Perry going to IR. I did see that GB cut Borel from the PS today. Sherrod has been removed from the PUP list and is going to start practicing too.

That is a big shift for the attitude the Packers seemed to have about Sherrod's recovery. I have only heard allusions to him being moved to IR. It may be saying something about the severity of Bulaga's injury.

Didn't Nick Barnett get IR'ed with a wrist injury the year before his last in GB? Urlacher too at some point...still a rare injury to end a season.

Sounds like Sherrod is going to practice for a few weeks and then GB will make a decision on whether to activate him or put him on IR. I wouldn't be surprised to see Datko added to the active roster if Sherrod can't go this year.

Sucks for Perry but looking honestly if he did come back did he deserve to oust Waldin as the starter? Seems to me Waldin's play has been pretty decent and he deserved to remain the starter. Wish Perry a quick recovery.

Perry is weekly guest on WSSP The Big Show and Mon finally said he has an LCL injury but I thought it was his knee.

Agree. Waldo has cranked it up this year and looks good.

Walden has been awful rushing the passer this year. Perry would have without a doubt replaced him as the starter.

Yeah, Perry graded out positively as a pass rusher this season in the 6 games he played. It's definitely a blow to the D. Now they need Clay to get healthy more than ever. Can't afford to have him missing too many games, if any. Pass rush went completely MIA in the Cards game once he left, and that was with the Packers facing one of the worst OL's in the league, if not the worst(Eagles right now could give them a run for their money)

Maybe the return of Zombo can help things there

That first game back could be brutal with what looks like no Clay, no Perry, etc., and facing the improving Lions and then the Giants. Maybe Capers will use Burnett as a pass rushing LB. It's time to get creative once again!

Perry's loss hurts the depth more than anything right now. There is a great article McGinn wrote about MM's strategy to keep D starters' snap count down and how it has been benefiting guys this year. Walden, for example, has looked much better this year playing fewer snaps but that is in danger now that he won't be spelled by Perry as we get into the grind of the second half of the schedule.

The Lions have been improving over the poast 3-4 games because of their run game. Need the DL and ILB to take care of the running game. Still no confirmation that Perry is going to IR.

Most detail I've found on Perry's status

The Pack may have to get into an offensive shootout mode similar to last year if the defense doesn't start getting some guys back healthy. Win games 41-38 instead of 41-20.

They did go 15-1 in that mode last year, so they could still win some games while waiting for guys like Matthews, Shields, Woodson, and Worthy to come back strong. That said, you just hope the offense can at least get Nelson back healthy if they do need to start going into shootout mode.

LB Brady Poppinga, 33, tried out w/Dallas Tues. He has been out since Rams elected not to resign him in March. Like to see him back.

According to a source close to Perry, wrist surgery took place at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Went well but prob won't be back this year,

Quarless is back with Perry going IR.

With Perry out, Matthews is once again the only good pass rusher the packers have. Worthy and Raji have been awful rushing the passer, but no one has been worse than Walden.

Neal has shown flashes of pass rushing ability. It would be nice if he turns it on down the stretch as he gets more snaps.

Walden is a good run defender, and IMHO Moses is showing a lot and still getting way better as a pass rusher. He's nasty. I also think Raji is going to be unleashed as we move deeper into the schedule. They've been very careful with him until now, but he seems to coast a bit during the early parts of seasons and then come on late.

It still sucks to have the last two first rounders on IR.

I'm not going to say Moses has the ability to replace Clay at this point in his career but he has shown some good things out there and he seems like a high character football guy. He could develop. Maybe not this year though.

Yeah I would really like to see Raji turn it on. He's played fewer snaps than in previous seasons in hopefully the translates into some late season production.

And you're right about Moses. He's raw with some pure pass rushing talent, and it wouldn't be the first time an undrafted rookie came in and made an impact on the defense (ala Sam Shields)

I'm all for it. In the 3-4 D you can't have enough good LBers. Improve the LB play and the D will improve dramatically.

Walden has been dominant at times this season. He plays with fire. Not as much as Clay but close. Tape the game and isolate him some. Part of it may have been Perry nipping at his playing time so hopeful that Moses and Zombo bring it.

The thing about Walden to me is he seems to get too far up field and outside on a lot of his rushes instead of pushing in on the pocket. Perry was a lot better at getting towards the QBs face.

- Walden is playing well IMO. The return of Zombo will help out in Clay's absence.

- Raji isn't a stat guy. He's not going to have big sacks or tackles. His job is to clog holes and tie up blockers so the LBers can make plays. If you're looking for Raji to have big numbers you'll continue to be disappointed. GB is ranked 10th against the run this season and made Arian Foster look like a JV player. Raji is a big part of that.
