First off, a win without 3 of our best players (Bahk, Z, Jenkins) after a Monday night game and traveling to the west coast.    That’s big time adversity and the overcame.

Positives

  1. Gotta start with Mason.  So clutch.
  2. The young offensive line wasn’t flawless but they were good enough.  I fully expected to see the Niners be more physical and that didn’t happen.  They controlled the line in the run game and did enough in pass pro.   Bright future
  3. Arron fucking Rodgers and Adams.   Dropping dimes all night long.
  4. The D wasn’t awesome but there were some things to like.  Got a little more pressure today.   Clark was a beast and we even got home a couple times with a 4 man rush.
  5. Stokes had some penalties, one total bullshit, but he was in position all night.  Kid has the look of a player. I’m excited to see him hold on to that starter spot.
  6. Campbell is better than last years ILB who’s name won’t be named.
  7. Punting game.

Negatives

  1. Officiating was really bad tonight.
  2. The 4th quarter drive with 7 mins left.   3 long passes leads to a 3 and out.  They had been wearing them down all night with the run.   Then just forgot it at the worst time.
  3. Take the fucking 3.

Krys Barnes was missed. Burks and Summers are horrible. Worst thing you could say about Barnes is he’s prone to injury.

mason is a gem. Smiled before the kick because he enjoys kicking game winners.

I really thought Lefleur’s gameplan tonight was excellent. Took their shots. Got enough out of the run game, and didn’t make any big mistakes.

Rodgers still showing rust, but he was clutch tonight when they needed it.

Defense was solid tonight. Stokes may have Wally Pipped King (I hope). Pass rush was pretty solid all night. Alexander was special. Savage was very good tonight- I think his best game in GB yet.

The officials in this game were fucking terrible. They were fucking terrible. There was no consistency, and they straight up blew calls. The league needs to put these guys on notice- that crew is awful.

Crosby putting together a HOF resume.

This was a very solid win, on the road on the west coast. They’re coming around. Arrow is pointed in the right way.

Positives:

Joe Barry defense showed some grit. Pass rush still needs improvement. Hoping when Z returns it will improve.

ARod & Tae!

O-line. I thought this would be a rough night for them, but did they ever surprise me.

Crosby!

Should be a big boost to this team’s confidence.

Negatories:

Krys Barnes’ absence was sorely felt.

Refs sucked the big one.

Special teams gives up big return. Yet again.

I want to see Deguara and Amari in some of the jet sweeps and motion plays that Swerve did last year. Maybe the 9’ers just weren’t the right defense to try that with? (I’m not a pro football analyst, though I play one on the internet.)

Gotta admit I was tense before Crosby’s kick. I wasn’t nervous about Crosby; I was afraid that our long snapper or new punter might botch it. They did not!

+ 12/17
+ Jones showed up in the 4th qtr
+ Patchwork o line did a great job
+ KC, PS, Campbell
+ A secondary in flux was active and in attack mode
+ Crosby
+ A win at the expense of the NFL

- Officiating was atrocious
- Niners hit as well as anyone, hopefully no serious injuries sustained

Pos

Rodgers / Adams / Jones / MVS / Lazard

Ward can expect his letter from the league office of a $25k fine even though no flag for his hit on Adams. Yeah I'm sure that $25k will deter him from doing it again.

The OL did something I didn't think they could do.

The DL held up against a very good SF O-Line mostly Kenny Clark who was a grown ass man out there.

Packers were determined to play good tonight.....and they did. Been a while since the Packers gave me a little bit of joy. I think December 2019 beating the Vikings in their stadium was the last time I felt this way.

Great needed NFC win. Very important.

Neg

MVS injured didn't return & Khrys Barnes too

Aaron Jones looked like he was limping too but had nice runs in the 4th Q.

Officiating just brutally inconsistent. How many had money on the Niners?

I'm 1-2 in my picks of Packers games.

Positives:

I thought there was a decent chance for the Pack to be blown out in this one with all the key injuries. They hung in there and got a big road win against a 49ers team much better than last year’s injury riddled squad.

Negatives:

The coverage on that kick return at the end of the first half was so poor, it’s literally frightening.  That return defense unit is a weakness so large, it will give the Pack a serious disadvantage in some of the close games they play this year if they can’t figure it out.  It was pathetic and allowed the 49ers a relatively easy score to get back in the game.

Like Jeff Triplette, or Bernie Kukar, the Packers always struggle when Booger is on the call. This game was his magnum opus though...so many bad calls, and so many non-calls that really made this game closer than it was. I had two Niner fan friends text me "how are we even still in this game."

I will say this...they could have fucked us on the last drive...they got the ball spotted in a hurry to where minimal time ticked off between plays.

Pos

2, 17 and the whole OL...No Bakh, no Leeeeroy Jenkins...and they kept 12 pretty fuckin clean all night.

97, 21 and 59...Hopefully we have seen the last of Kevin Suck-King this season. Stokes took lumps but he also shut down Deebo a lot.

Defense...yeah I know people what to point to the last drive, among a couple others where we gave up big yards...but it's a work in progress. They had the Whiners in 3rd and long several times and either the Whiners made a clutch play or the refs bailed them out. I think schematically this D is far superior to Pettin' Kitty...the shortcomings are because we have people like the Double L's and Summers thrust into critical positions.

2-1 with a struggling Steelers squad coming in, then roadies to the Bungles and Shit-cago...the arrow is pointing up!

Neg

MLF needs to realize this team isn't a good short yardage team...until you are, TAKE THE FUCKING POINTS

"Special" Teams...JFC...that we only give up ONE huge return is an "improvement," speaks volumes about the fuckfest this unit has been for north of a decade.

Depth at LB is paper thin...Summers is the Tyler Lancaster of the LB.

A road W.

Alexander + Stokes + King  is better than Alexander + Stokes + Sullivan. Especially if they play King at the LOS as has been mentioned the past week.

Special Teams

Had to be a serious breakdown in coverage to create that massive gaping hole. Absolutely inexcusable and let the Niners back in the game.

Blocking on the game-winner. Almost blocked due to no real effort to even chip (someone said it was Tonyan).  Suspect he assumed he couldn't get there by going outside but even a minor glitch in the hold or snap could have been disastrous.

Officiating

+

MLF gameplan and the offensive line.

Stokes. Thought the one PI was really questionable (as was the roughing call on Jaire).

Saw some reasons for guarded optimism regarding the defense.

Positives:

A road win in California against a solid 49ers team is big

I honestly hadn't heard of Yosh Nijman but he  seemed to hold his own last night as did the young OL

This team was motivated and seemed determined not to be flat again on the road.  To me they were a well coached team last night

Mason Freaking Crosby! we are going to miss him big time when he is gone.  So damn clutch it's insane

NFC win is always a good thing

Negatives:

MLF for the love of god take the damn points.  I don't know why so many coaches these days don't take the points

Officiating?  Ooof they were brutal

++++   O Line.  Held up well on a big stage against a pretty stout outfit.  It helped that MLF dialed up some quick release plays and that AR and the guys executed them.

++++  And it is good to play with a lead.

I wonder if a couple of those calls on Stokes were because the rookie typically doesn't get the benefit of the doubt in those situations.  Or that the ref crew was just that bad across the board.

The kid is always in position but he does currently look a bit grabby when the ball is in the air.  Should be able to correct that as he gets a better feel for the nfl game.

Jaire had some rough moments to go with his big plays last night.

I really think on that last 3 and out by the Green Bay offense Rodgers was looking to Davante and he just didn't seem "right".  He looked like that hit really had him thinking too much about catching the ball.  I was shocked he came back in.

After all the shit y'all gave him for kicking the ball in the NFCC MLF ain't kicking shit if it is 4th and 2 inside the other teams half.

I still don't know why he caught so much flak. If we had converted that 4th down into a touchdown, guess what? Kevin King is still playing defense for us.

Embrace the power of "and".

As to that point. Thought MLF did a really nice job of game planning and playcalling.

-I know it’s the “in thing” on this board to bash the DL (minus KC), but the Niners averaged 3 yards per carry. Compare that to previous Niner games and its outstanding. I don’t know the snap  counts for the 2 Northwestern boys, but it seems like they, along with Keke and maybe Slaton, did their jobs pretty well last night. The pocket was collapsing with regularity. They take a ton of criticism on a daily basis so give credit where credit is do. They played especially well against a really good O-line.

-Hand wringing about the defense in general, and specifically the new DC. But the D has shown improvement each week. Maybe it really will take a few “live action” games for the new scheme to come together and be effective. Liked that they seemed very aggressive and physical.

-Lazard is a phenomenal blocker, as is MVS.  And the team’s chip blocking on the DEs was exceptional. I mentioned in the game thread, one particular play Bobby T just absolutely leveled Bosa, completely knocked him on his ass with a simple shove.

-Mentioned in another thread earlier this week, but tons of hand wringing regarding the O-line. Much like the defense, the O-line is and has been a patchwork without Bak, and now Jenkins. And they haven’t really haven’t had a chance to develop as one cohesive unit yet. Maybe like the D, we give its few weeks before we decide a bunch of rookies and young guys “can’t play”.

-Packers “reached a bit” when they drafted Josh Meyers in the second. Better Centers still on the board the TV experts pined.  Ummm, this kid might be special!!!!

NEG

-Not certain what it is, but Dillon does not seem to be running with authority. He seems tentative through three games, not really using his power. Wondering if he’s dinged up somewhere.

-AR and DA has a tremendous game, unbelievable chemistry. But AR and MLF need to find a way to get others involved. DA was targeted 18 time’s, more than half the dropbacks by AR. Would really like to see Jonesy in the passing game more. Same with Kylin.  Saw one WR screen to MVS  would love to see similar to the big body Lazard. I’m hoping that lack of “love game” preseason is what’s keeping the playbook not as diverse.

-Has anyone seen Cobb?

-Khrys Barnes gets dinged up far too often to be counted on. Might be getting the “soft” label.

Anyone that thinks King is out of a job or that he should be benched in favor of Sullivan or Yindom is crazy.  King is gonna see the field a lot because GB will have 5+ DBs on the field in this very pass-oriented league. And he’s just a better player than Sullivan and Yiadom.

++++Mason Crosby Clutch Kicker! AROD AND TAE! TAE! coming back from that helmet to helmet hit by Ward. I thought Tae was concussed and gone. If this were a college game, Ward would have been penalized for targeting and ejected from the game. (Problem is, you have to have a flag thrown first.) BEST WR IN THE GAME! Stokes was picked on, but played well. Bye Bye King! Our pass rush did okay, but could have been better. MVS looked good! Our O Line played well, overall, for being mostly young guys. Juscsyk, (whatever) scored the tying TD with too much time on the clock.(37 seconds left and no time outs and Aaron Rodgers with the ball, down by one point, is almost unfair for the other team.) A big WIN!

-----Officiating really stunk! Two bogus calls, IMO, on Stokes. No flag on TAE's helmet to helmet hit. No flags on Garrapolo, for intentional grounding, chaffed my hide! Our STs, when SF ran the ball back, on a short kick, gave momentum to Garrapolo and the 49ers. Not much from Cobb, so far. Was he used as more of a decoy?

I'll piss in your corn flakes later Mr. "In Thing".

Unless King had a case of unhappy sickness.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded now that Stokes is really showing he deserves to be on the field.  Only problem is I don't know what team would take on a 6 mil salary for a guy that just got demoted.

Completely agree King is better than Sullivan or Yiadom but not exactly sure how he measures up in the slot.

Just went back and looked at the SF KO return. We had 4 guys end up outside the numbers to the left of the return man (his left). Summers got taken a whole 2 gaps from where I think he was supposed to be. As Collingsworth said " I returned kick offs .... you NEVER see a lane that wide".

re-watch the game, maybe someone who knows better than me can explain why 52 constantly blows by the play - is he instructed to do this or is he just not good enough to push inside, he seems to just rush in a straight line; right past the qb; who has to take a step up and go...it doesn't make sense to me and i don't see 91 or anybody else doing this.

Maybe line him up inside like they do with Z.

I think this would be a huge benefit to both Gary and the inside of the line, which sucks btw.  The guy is 277, it's not like he's going to get bounced around like Ty Summers.  He's a 4-3 DE (just like Perry) if I ever saw one.  Put him up on the line and see what he can do.

Leave the outside pass rush to Z and P.  Hell, I keep seeing Garvin in on more plays.
