I thought it was BS analysis.  For those who don't recall, whoever the talking head was during the broadcast said that when Williams was looking around examining the D pre snap that was a obvious tell that it was a pass.

Every back on every team is looking around at where the defenders are on every play no matter if it's run or pass.

If it's a run, they dont just blindly slam into the called hole.   They know the play design and the defenders positions pre snap will determine how the play unfolds.  Ok, maybe Brent Fullwood just slammed into the hole.

If it's a pass, same thing.

It was complete BS.

The announcers of a couple of the games we played remarked on some of GBs โ€œtellsโ€. When certain players were in the lineup and the body language expressions of a certain player, it would tell when it would be a run or pass play. Lewis and A Jones were the examples used.....

Spielman showed a couple of things during the Lions game.

The first was an example of Jones moving his eyes L-R-L while lined up in the backfield. Spielman said this was a key read for the LBs, as it indicated a pass play because his eye movement was him scanning for blitzers.

That was a good catch by Spielman but I think it was Willliams. Pretty sure that was during the 2+ hours Jones was on the bench.

Regardless of which RB it was, I'm confused why the RB wouldn't do the exact same thing on every play?  I would think it would be useful to know where the defensive players were lined up.

ETA - see BrainDed's post at the top of the page.

BS or not BS....one thing is for certain. There is LOTS of tape on MM's offense. It's usually why most coaches have a shelf life of 10 years.

The biggest problem ๐Ÿ˜€ Defensive Coordinators have is Aaron Rodgers going all school yard on them. Is it possible that's because he improvises - While the play is unfolding?

MM's job hinges on this season. Anything short of a deep playoff run & you can expect a new HC in 2019.

Agrees, but that's different than saying a RB is telling pass / run by scanning the field presnap.   MM's tells are that "we do what we do" and run the same plays in the same down / distances over and over and over and over again because "if we execute we can't be stopped" or something like that.

Sure Mike,  that's true, but if you deceived the opponent and they didn't know what you were going to do, it would make it easier for the players to execute.  Yes, Mike?

Poof, his mind is blown.

I remember when defense used to be a part of the NFL.  seems to me these score-happy teams with no defense might prove lacking on down the line (I hope).

I haven't seen a great defense yet this year.  Jacksonville is one of the most talented and they got destroyed yesterday.  If your offense is turning it over and not sustaining drives to rest your defense, there isn't a defense in the NFL this year that can overcome that.

The last really great one I can remember was Denver in 2015, that defense was fantastic.  But those type of defenses don't come around very often.

I swear, I've had the hardest time keeping track of the RBs and their numbers the last couple of years or so.
Thanks for the correction, P'Hawk.

It was my mistake as well. So thanks. Yet whoever it was is still a tell, as is having Lewis in on many of the run plays. As others have noted MM has been around for quite some time and I am sure there is a whole lot of game tape on his play calling and on Rodgers as well. Pettine would be a Head coach that would try and avoid being predictable.

I don't buy that rumor unless McCarthy has gotten health problems so bad that he feels like he shouldn't continue.  I just have a hard time seeing him quit mid-season, though I could see him pursuing other opportunities after the season is over.

I think MM steppig down with as you said health issues that is the ONLY way this happens.  It just isn't the Packers way to make changes in the middle of the year.  Personnally if I had to make a prediction MM steps aside to take a position in the front office or to take a year off.

Looking at the game I see another weakness from our team. And some teams have been able to exploit it. Safety play is a concern. This week I see that the Niners have another good TE. If the LB or safety has to cover a good TE from the opponent we seem to struggle. Now I know that this defense is not the same as last year, but we do have many of the same players. Shut down Kittle and I believe our CBs can do the rest, esp without a good OLB pass rush.

Tonight's  game is just a primer for the Feb 3 meeting with KC  in the Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta. Just watch  how the  offense will be methodical  in their surgical dissection of the 49ers defense, the only question will be how much they  pummel the Niners.

I hope you're right.  Without Allison and Cobb, that might make things a little tougher, but I agree that the 49ers without Garappolo are pretty much in the running for weakest team in the NFL.  If the 49ers do somehow win this game..... Yikes!!!!
