Guys..  The P. Smith as a CB thing isn't that unusual.     They had a HB, FB, TE and 2 WR grouping.    We countered with a standard 3 -4.

They split the TE out wide and put the WR in the slot.      If you're playing man, maybe a single high behind it because you want to put an extra S in the box, a LB will typically follow the TE.

If they sent Cook out wide, we would have seen Barnes or Harris play CB then.  It's not that unusual.   I would have preferred to see the safety go out there instead, but they stayed with that match up.

I understand all the deserved shit on the defense, and they were atrocious.

but the offense scored 14 pts until the final minutes when they were down big

Tonyan Harding and Adams are the only ones I'd give a good grade for on offense

Schedule is a piece of it, but if you look at who the top NFC teams have beaten its not exactly been a murderers row...

Winning % of teams beaten:

Saints: 48%

Bucs: 47%

Bears: 37%

Packers: 36%

Seahawks: 35%

Basically all of these teams have a good win on their record and then they've beaten a lot of average/below average/bad teams. That's how it goes. No team faces contenders 16 weeks in a row. The mark of good teams is showing up against good teams and consistently beating teams they should beat. So far GB showed up against NO, beat a lot of bad teams, didn't show up against TB and made too many mistakes against MIN. Hard to say where they're at honestly.

Good perspective. I was about to write "this week will tell us a lot about where they are", and even then, I'm not sure it does given the number of injuries the Niners have at QB/RB/TE, and god knows if Covid continues to hit GB...

(I will say the GB defense getting ravaged again with Jimmy G/Mostert/Kittle out would be very demoralizing however)

The only time P Smith is that far away from the QB is at the whistle.

If it's any other QB than Cousins, he's salivating at that matchup. Why we didn't have more players in the box is inexcusable and speaks poorly of ABM.

Yeah I know that....my point is Preston should be rushing the F'ing passer & stopping the run, not split out wide.

This goes to the heart of my complaint about not putting your players in the best position to succeed.
