Spring game cancelled bad weather forecasted

Why does it feel like the (spring) season is over?
I am actually completely fine with them cancelling a glorified scrimmage. And it always seems like they have a major injury in their spring game.
Chryst has all the toys, now. If Hornibrook can develop that long ball and play the way he did against Miami in the Orange Bowl consistently going forward, the Badgers are a legit playoff contender.
That's a pretty big if.
Something we need to remember is their 2018 schedule is quite a bit more difficult than last year. Playing at Penn State will be very difficult. Michigan may not be dominant but the Big House has been tough on Wisconsin even when the Badgers were better than UM. Games at NW and Iowa are also pesky.
I do agree the talent and depth is probably as good as it has ever been but I do still wonder about the DB position. In big games against good opponents (like Ohio State) thatβs where they have been exposed.
But thatβs all relative- the season before they played a murderous schedule and came close to a playoff chance if not for a horrific collapse in the B1G title game.
The talent on offense has been one of the biggest issues- and the skill position talent is deeper and better across the board than their season 2 years ago. We saw those guys come of age against Miami.
If ever there was a complete Badger team- deep and talented OL, premier RB, experience at QB, and receivers, combined with a deep and talented D- itβs now.
They had 3 losses in 2016 and werenβt ever seriously considered for a playoff spot. Had they beaten Michigan or Ohio State maybe. Doesnβt diminish the fact it was a succesful season but this team will have to run the table and/or make it to and win the BT conference championship game with no more than 1 loss to be considered for the playoffs. Thatβs a tall order.
Can they do it? Possibly. Iβm more interested in the progression and I think they will eventually get there with Chryst but just not sure it will be as soon as 2018. His best class is the upcoming one.

If they win the B1G Title game they most certainly were being seriously considered. They made it easy on the committee by falling apart after going up 28-7. If that lead holds and itβs a blowout win, Iβm guessing theyβre in over Ohio State.
Boy, that catch Cephus made in practice yesterday was amazing- this young crop of wideouts could be special.
ILBs too... Iβll say it again- they have a shot this year if they stay healthy. Little worried about DL depth, and a young secondary though... need some young guys to step up there I think.
Badgers move up to # 3 in the USA Today top 25 pre season poll.

WISCONSIN BADGERS 13 time consecutive winner of Paul Bunyon's axe

Update on Graham Mertz, who is rising the rankings at QB for the 2019 class:
Top QB Graham Mertz shuts down recruiting, says he's ready to 'just play ball' as a Badger
Talent in Chrystβs hands is a very good thing...
He can't be any worse than Hornibrook....
Fedya and humor
I'm sorry, Elko Bong, the correct answer was, "Hundley could be worse than Hornibrook."

D line depth will be tested
Thatβs a big concern... young secondary and a thin DL. Might have to outscore a few teams this year...
Badgers make a move to address the DL depth...
Tom Oates with a complaint about scheduling... huh? Alabama played a joke schedule last year and got in, and win it all. Oates is wrong...
Tom Oates: Inequity in scheduling hurts Big Ten football
First of all, it takes 2 to tango- and when powerhouse programs refuse to schedule a tough game unless itβs at home, or a 2 for 1, there is no incentive for the teams like UW to schedule monsters. None.
And second, it simply has no bearing on the committeeβs judgment (as evidenced by last year allowing a 1 loss βBama team who played nothing in the non conference (they scheduled Mercer for ahead of the Iron Bowl, for fβs sake??? Itβs like having a bye week). I donβt want to hear a friggin word about Wisconsinβs scheduling...
Badgers Freshman Nakia Watson impressive in camp so far...

WOW, seems thinned skinned on the outside
I heard on the radio yesterday that the Tubby Brazilian is back too.
That's reasonable news, sure seems like he's been around 8 years or so....
A healthy Brazilian is certainly good news, in any sense.
Another big night for #Badgers QB commit Graham Mertz. Had five touchdowns passing and another on the ground in a 51-49 win that punched his teamβs ticket to the state title game in Kansas. pic.twitter.com/kK95l6HZmI

Alex Hornibrook, Wisconsinβs starting QB the last three seasons, has entered the NCAA transfer portal, per source

Hopefully, not the first football player to be scared about the prospect of facing Graham Mertz.
Looks like the Mertz era is officially underway

This may be good for him on many levels. First, he won't have to sit on the bench watching his replacement. Even more importantly, he clearly had some major concussion problems this past year. It would be really nice to see him sit out a year during the transfer and then come back fully healthy and do well somewhere else. I could see him being effective for a MAC team or an FCS level team. For all his faults in terms of playing at a higher level, he seemed like a good kid that was well liked by everyone in the program. He's obviously not an NFL-level talent, so let him have one last year to have some fun and then get on with his life.
Got to cheer for the kid. Orange bowl MVP will always be his
Who will you all have to hate on this season now that Hornibrook is gone?

I gonna miss him......

Yup, that was quite the game.
He, probably saw the high-lite tape of Mertz, that Bonger posted back on Nov 17.
Hornibrook graduates in the spring, so he can go anywhere he wants. UW gave him what they were committed to giving him. He had some fine moments (as mentioned, Orange Bowl MVP), but the Graham Mertz era officially has begun.

I met him during his freshman year. Great kid.

My son went to high school with Logan Brown (top LT recruit in the country). We'll call it the Logan Brown era.
