Packers are right on the cusp of a SB and their main issue is the ILB situation. I would take Kendricks for their lat 2nd in a heartbeat. Trade down from RD1 into mid 2nd and get another pick in RD4 or so on top of it. Find CB depth and DL depth from there on out

Yes I know Ted won't do it but let me enjoy this for a few minutes

My thoughts exactly except I'd add OL also. Mychal only turns 25 in September.

The Eagles won't get anything close for a second rounder for Kendricks.  They showed their hand when they dealt for Alonso.  They want length at linebacker, they don't want Kendricks.  The draft is on their doorstep, if they want additional help in 2015 they have to deal him now and take what they can get. Every team knows this and every team will low ball them.  Kendricks is a solid/good player but he's not the type that teams are going to get into a bidding war over.

Trade a 3rd year second round pick that has performed well to get what they can get. That's good front office work.

You seem to be confusing "they don't want Kendricks" with "Chip doesn't want Kendricks" but we'll get back to that.

So they trade Kendricks for what they can get because they desire length. Stands to reason getting the additional help you speak of in 2015 would include an ILB because they'd be counting on a starter with 2 ACL blowouts that missed all of 2014 (Kiko) and a 30 year old that missed half of 2014 with a torn Achilles (Ryans...By the way Demeco is a "legitimate" 6'1"). The reason they probably want an ILB in the draft after trading Kendricks to get what they can get is because the backup to Kiko and Demeco would be Brad Jones.

Chip is doing everything he can to get to number 2 in the draft to get his QB. That's what everyone knows. He's done a completely ****ty job of disguising it. If a team low balls him it's not because Kendricks is 5'11". It's because Chip is a ****ty poker player.

If Leonard Williams is the best player in the draft and if Tennessee is trying to trade out (showing they want an unwarranted ransom for Mariota, whom they don't really want), why give up the farm? Call their bluff, they can take Mariota (and quite possibly be stuck with him if they don't become reasonable) or, if they take Williams trade with the more reasonable Reggie McKenzie because Williams will be off the board.

Terrible article by McGinn.  So he hasn't done well with his past predictions, so what Bob, we know you are like everyone else and can't see the future.  So instead of actually making a prediction, he just names every defensive player that's projected to be picked anywhere from 12 to 50 overall as a possibility for Green Bay.  Wonderful insight there.

Now Ted will probably trade up for an offensive player just to spite him.  D.J. Humphries or Melvin Gordon anyone?  But as far as serious trade up scenarios, if Kevin Johnson makes it down to 27, then why wouldn't Thompson give serious consideration to trade to get him.  The Cowboys move down three spots and can still get a cornerback with baggage (just how the Cowboys like their players) or an inside linebacker, so the price would probably be reasonable.  The Packers get an excellent cornerback with solid character that can line up and play right away.

And Bryce Petty at 31.    Not saying it can't happen...when it comes to quarterbacks anything can happen.  But boy oh boy I just don't see all those quarterbacks not named Winston or Mariota being anywhere near first round territory.  Middle of round three is more like it...and that is probably still a little higher than those guys should go.

FIBS.....

Giordano's and it isn't even close when you are in Chicago.  Be prepared for a very long wait though.  Another thing I would do is head down to Wrigleyville.  It requires putting up with Cubs fans but there is a Wisconsin themed bar there that is about 2 blocks from the stadium.

I think everyone wants to trade back (except Tampa apparently?). Ted had to settle for the deal he got in 2008, in terms of pure pick value the Jets got the better end of that deal...in terms of player value the Packers got a better value on Jordy Nelson than the Jets did on Dustin Keller (so much better short term and long term value). Ted may sacrifice a better pick value if he badly wants to move back. As I said before, historically ILBs are chosen in the first halves of rounds 1 and 2 and rarely in the second halves of those rounds. If Ted wants an ILB then his best bet is to move down into the top 5, pick up a 4th and take Denzel Perryman. I will continue to beat that drum because my gut tells me he will be a Packer.

Whoa.

@JayGlazer: Scoopage: Agent for LSU's La'el Collins trying to pull him from this draft allowing him time to clear his name then enter Supplemental Draft.

@JayGlazer: Most are asking for a full police report clearing him before they are willing to draft him. Collins is slated to meet w police.

@JayGlazer: NFL's call if Collins can get pulled from this draft.

So I was catching up on the La'el Collins situation and I think it could get pretty interesting.  He wants in on the supplemental draft which gives him the opportunity to still be a "first round" pick (more likely second round though).  But if he goes undrafted, which is sounding like a possibility, can he sign with any team he wants for any amount of money?  It'd be pretty interesting to see what the true market value for a top 15 player is.

Very interested to see what Cutler's trade value is. 7 to 2 is a big move, I can't imagine it's just 7 + Cutler for 2. That puts his value at mid-1st rounder. 7 + 39 + Cutler for 2 maybe? That puts a 2nd round value on him. I don't know what sounds right because he has the "status" of a franchise QB and the contract of a franchise QB, but I don't consider him to be a true franchise QB.

So that makes it even more interesting.  Does a team use a 7th rounder on him?  Those are practically throw away picks anyway, with such a low percentage turning out to be NFL caliber players.  Obviously the risk is that he is eventually arrested and introduced as "Green Bay Packers offensive tackle, La'el Collins".  This would be the closest to a complete gamble on a player in NFL history, since teams likely will have zero info on the case by the end of the draft (police are not going to tip their hand DURING an investigation for purposes of the NFL draft).  Oh and to those saying that the police are not calling him a suspect....please.  Unless it's obvious, they never release "suspects" to the media.  It's always "person of interest".

I'll be honest, behind the Packers picks, this is the most interesting story of the draft.

Ah bummer.  I was hoping this would like free agency for a first round rookie.  Could have been cool to see what would have happened.  If he really wasn't involved in this, this really sucks for him.  He'll miss out on millions for something completely out of his control, ie: just knowing a murder victim.  Of course, if he was involved.......

If you are the Bucs and the Eagles offer you Sam Bradford, Vinny Curry, Fletcher Cox, Kendricks, Mathis and their 1st and 2nd this year, do you make that deal?  Those are all names that are being reported as on the table.

The only reason I bring this up is that Chip Kelly seems to be willing to do what ever it takes to land Mariota, at least if what is being reported has any credibility, which I know is doubtful this time of year.  If at all true however, the Bucs seem like the trading partner that makes the most sense.  The holes that they need to fill seem to match up with the players being talked about, also, that trade seems to create a team that Lovie Smith could coach.  I wonder how fall Winston would fall if the Bucs and Eagles made a trade.

@AlbertBreer: Redskins have worked trade-down scenarios with other clubs, I'm told. But if a deal is going to happen, it'll be on the clock. Here's why...

@AlbertBreer: ... Execution of a deal down from 5 hinges on 2 things: a) whether a player Skins covet falls to 5; b) the other team's target being there.

Posting most for the novelty of the Redskins' looking at doing things sensibly. Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen don't deserve competence.

I was surprised by the Randall pick.  He figured to be a solid top 45 player, but I figured Ted would slightly downgrade him to a late second round grade based on the 5-10 7/8.  He's the first sub 5-11 defensive back that Ted has drafted since 2005.

There is no sense to puss out like McGinn just because Ted threw everyone a curveball in round one.  Time for day two speculation and predictions.

Not only Eric Rowe, but there appeared to be a bunch of defensive backs the Packers would like at the end of round two (Alex Carter, Josh Shaw).  Now with Shields, Heyward, Hyde, Randall, Goodson, Burnett, Clinton-Dix, Richardson, Banjo...the Packers certainly have room for 10 DBs on the roster but they probably won't want to add #10 this early.

If DE-Mario Edwards/Florida State makes it down to the end of round two, he'd probably be the most attractive player on the board.  But the big question is will Ted continue to ignore the ILB position?  Here's my list of who I think the Packers would take at #62, and this would be the Packer's order of perference.

1.  Denzel Perryman/ILB/Miami, Fl

2.  Mario Edwards Jr/DE/Florida State

3.  Clive Walford/TE/Miami, Fl

4.  David Johnson/RB/Northern Iowa

5.  Eric Rowe/CB/Utah

It gets harder and harder to predict which players will be available at #62, but I think all of these guys could be there.  If all these players get cleaned out then the pick could be a dropper running back (Coleman, Ajayi, Abdullah) or another defensive back (the already mentioned Alex Carter or Josh Shaw).  I really don't think Ted wants to take another DB this early, so if that's the scenario he gets stuck with then he'll look to trade down.  If Kendricks or McKinney drop far enough then he could look to trade up, but both probably are drafted in the top 50 and would command too much to move up.  But in the end I'll say Perryman at #62....if he's off the board then Edwards at #62...etc.

Round three, I think the guy that Ted would like would be Colorado State offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo.  But if Ted doesn't get an ILB in round two, can he wait any longer to get one?  I don't think he can.  If the Packer's don't take an ILB in round two, I think the round three prefered players will look something like:

1.  Jake Ryan/ILB/Michigan

2.  Kwon Alexander/ILB/Louisiana State

3.  Ty Sambrailo/OT/Colorado State

4.  Marcus Hardison/DE/Arizona State
5.  MyCole Pruitt/TE/Southern Illinois

6.  Craig Mager/CB/Texas State

If Ted does land an ILB in round two, then just knock Ryan and Alexander off the board and the list is Sambrailo, Hardison, Pruitt, Mager.

Gut feeling is that Perryman does somehow make it to #62 and the Packers end up with Denzel Perryman in round two and Ty Sambrailo in round three.  I suppose about the worst case scenario is that Perryman and Edwards are both gone at 62 and the Packers end up with Clive Walford at #62 and Jake Ryan at #94.  I don't mind Ryan at #94, but to me Walford is a bit over-rated and the end of round two seems a bit high...I think tight end value is better a little later on.

And it was wonderful to see both Waynes and Gordon be picked in the top half of round one last night.

But if he gets picked, can't he hold out and not sign?  Then he'd have to go back into the draft next year (ie: Bo Jackson), likely being a first or second round pick.  And if he goes undrafted, he could refuse to sign with a team and then he'd either go back into the draft, or be a street free agent (not sure exactly how it works, but has to be one of those options).  Both those options seem to work better for him than being a late round pick.

Yeah what would stop him from doing this?  If he goes the UDFA route, he's playing for the minimum salary for 4 years.  If he plays in the CFL for a year, doesn't he just become a free agent that can sign with any team for any amount of money?  Definitely a rare case but not sure why this wouldn't work.

Curses.  McGinn edges me by one.  I ended up with 82.

Top score this year was 84.

http://www.thehuddlereport.com/scoring/top100.shtml

Couple corrections.  Kellen Clemens was a 2nd round pick, and George Shaw from Oregon was also a 1st round pick (also a losing record)

I love that all 2 of the FSU QBs and all 4 of the Oregon QBs drafted in 1st round allow one to make an implied prediction.  DERP.

HAY GUIZE - ALL WEST VIRGINIA QBS DRAFTED IN THE FIRST ROUND (Geno Smith) ARE BUSTS, SO GOOD DRAFT STRATEGERY IS TO NEVER DRAFT A WVU QB IN 1ST ROUND!

I IS SMRT!

@RapSheet: The #Cowboys deal for #LSU OL La’El Collins is for 3 years, fully guaranteed, per source. (@NFLCharean had it first).

@RapSheet: The #Cowboys monitored La’El Collins’ situation from the beginning, doing endless homework. They nearly drafted him a few times.

@RapSheet: How much are the #Cowboys paying La’El Collins as a signing bonus? All the money left in their undrafted free agent pool.

@AlbertBreer: Per source, La'el Collins' 3-year deal is worth about $1.7 million. It's fully guaranteed, which is believed to be unprecedented for a UDFA.

@adbrandt: Strategy of getting to undrafted FA works for La'el Collins. Fully guaranteed 3 yr deal w/Dallas, no offsets, can renegotiate after two.

Stupid not to draft him in the seventh round, then. Under slotted, non-guaranteed contract, probably cheaper, for 4 vice 3 years.

True, but at the time he was still being questioned and nobody really knew how serious things were. No team was going to risk selecting him at all for fear of backlash if things turned out to be more serious

As it is, Cowboys land themselves a 1st round talent and we know Jerry likely paid him some more under the table to get things done. Even with their draft haul, they still are behind GB and SEA IMO. Not a lot separates GB and Dallas in terms of rosters except for one thing, the most important thing...Rodgers is a better QB than Romo

There is always that surprise team or 2 every year but right now I'm not sure what other team in the NFC can stack up to GB/SEA/DAL this season.
