Can they have Antonio Brown ready after the bye?
That was one play and he was blanketed. He can beat LBs and maybe a S. He’s not going to be getting open with any consistency against a NFL CB.

One reason to draft completely for the future like this is that you know you realistically need to upgrade a lot of personnel to compete for a title and you are looking 2-3 years down the road. This approach might have made sense last year when MLF was coming in to take over a 6-9-1 team with a declining QB.
The other reason to draft this way is that you feel you have veteran personnel like the 1996 Packer Super Bowl team and there isn't going to be a lot of playing time for new contributors anyway.
Obviously, this team was 13-3 last year and played in the NFC Title game. They were one game away from the Super Bowl, but I would have thought that anybody watching them play the Niners could tell that they clearly needed to upgrade personnel on the defensive side. They had the type of team where you usually take some chances and try to get over the hump. What's puzzling is that they had the tough positions to fill covered: great edge rushers, a really promising secondary that was only going to improve, the best LT in football, a top 5 WR, a top 10 RB, and a QB that was at least good enough to win with. You can usually find top contributors at the positions they most needed to upgrade (interior DL and ILB) near the end of Round 1 and even later because teams will draft guys at LT, QB, CB, and Edge Rusher higher than they often should because they are at such a premium. The Packers had all that covered.
The only thing I can think of is they thought Rodgers was in severe decline and they thought the 13-3 record was a bit of a mirage. Instead, he opens this season looking like the 2010-15 era Rodgers. If you knew he was going to be this good, you'd think you'd at least try to add a difference maker to get over the hump.
Or, another reason, they thought the 2020 wasn't going to be completed.

That may be true, but they must have had Love very high on their board to trade up from 30 to 26 to get him. As someone said above, someone on their staff became very enamored with him. Hopefully, we don't have to find out if they were right for at least 2-3 years.

And now Kirksey is on IR. Both players will be able to return to active roster on Week 8. Get ready for more Summerstime. Kamal Martin can also return after the bye week.
Kirksey on IR? My only surprise is that it took him 3 weeks to get back to his comfort zone.

I think Gute and Co. are better judges of talent, than we give them credit for. I've heard from a guy who talks to GBP scouts, that they have had AJ Dillon on their radar since he was in High School.

Like others have said, I have no problem with any of the individual picks (except giving up a 4th rounder to move up 4 spots in round 1 for Love). It's the fact they are getting almost nothing this year from the first 4 draft picks they had.
Dillon may be great in the future (like Love and DeGuara), but he's a third stringer this year. Love, DeGuara, and the 4th rounder they gave up have not contributed anything this year yet.

At least Summers and Martin have a chance to get better with more reps. Kirksey is 28 years old. He is what he is at this point.
Martin was one of their better looking players before the season started. Hopefully he can get back and make some plays.

Disagree on DeGuara. He played well in the Vikings game. He was in line for a lot of playing time before his injury. 24 snaps in his first game, that's not spot duty.
Dillon, it's only been 3 weeks. I think he's going to be a factor this year.

That's a fair point. He looked very good as a blocker.
And he would've had a TD on the long pass from Rodgers if he ran through it....
And I would have won the 100 meter dash in the 1976 Olympics if I was 8 seconds faster.

We might see Jones, Williams, Ervin outside and Dillon in the backfield come Monday night.
And 1. 100% behind all 4 getting lots of playing time. Plus Deguara & Adams= cooking with gas. AR would pass for 500 yards against their triaged secondary!
