The punting by O’Donnell was very good.
The OLine pass protection was darn good.
A. Rodgers, Toure, Q. Walker, Goodson, Abernathy, Heflin, and Ahmed were all pretty good.
Never having to see Ty Summers playing a game in a Packer uniform ever again is a nice bonus.

The most disappointing draft pick to date has to be Sean Rhyan. If he wasn’t a 3rd round pick, he would be a candidate to be cut given the rest of the talent on the OLine.
The kick/punt coverage and return game were both, per usual, abysmal.
+ Toure played well tonight. Carpenter played well. Heflin's statement stop. Goodson and Taylor ran well. O'Donnell punted really well.

Packers featured Rodgers and I didn’t see the explosiveness that we hoped for. We got old man Cobb and uninspiring Rodgers as the slot gadget guy Meh.
Toure may have just beat out Winfree.. My guess is 12 will argue for Winfree because of the familiarity.
Abernathy should make the team. He was about to make a pick on that bubble screen and house it but got tackled by the WR.
I’ve been sayin Taylor should beat out Goodson because of teams. Well, teams are gonna suck anyway, keep the kid who can play RB better.
Love played well in spurts and like shit in spurts. Turned it over in high leverage situation again. It’s a pattern.

I think if Gute puts his mind to it he could own most of the 7th round and some of the 6th. Hopefully there is enough room on the 90 man roster for them. We wouldn't have to sign any UFAs or UDFAs.

Overall Impression
NOBODY stood out. The broadcast from NFL network was almost unbearable. Too many shots of Andy ReId’s boob sweat.

If Rodgers is out, we’re fucked. Love didn’t move up tonight at all and still hasn’t shown anything close to the ability to be the future at QB. We need to be in the market for a veteran backup next season. The Future got outplayed severely by the Chiefs’ third string QB. We also need to draft another QB high in the draft in 2023 if there’s one that makes sense.

Jones longs like a keeper. Generally, the pass blocking was good. Just average on run blocking.

Williams is probably out, it will be interesting to see who gets to be the third QB

Really not surprising, but the young guys didn’t look like anything special. For those going ga ga over the training camp darlings, hopefully the expectations have become much more reasonable. Amari looked to be the best of the receivers, but for a second year, third round pick versus a lot of guys who won’t be in the league a couple weeks from now, it’s not saying much.

Welp, at least the kickers didn’t fuck up. The coverage teams and the return teams? Atrocious as usual. I sure hope that gets sewn up by the first game. I realize we’re trying to use a lot of player combinations right now, but so were the chiefs. They put our special teams to shame. Lasagna has a lot of work to do in a short period of time.
Conclusion
it was a preseason game, and hopefully it’s useful in helping the coaching staff and Gutey put together the best team possible. And, no major injuries, so that’s good. It’s mainly disappointing to see Love hasn’t progressed, and our high draft picks didn’t play like high draft picks. Disappointing, but not necessarily alarming.
The angst people have for second and especially third stringers /UDFAs is hilarious. I especially like the vilification of players because they’re not that good. Maybe those who get cut should be stoned in the north end zone. Maybe go after their families on Twitter or instagram.

Quay Walker begs to differ with you.
The BIG problem in preseason games for fans is that we don't know the opposing team well enough to know how many starers they have on the field at any given time ....and the TV announcers are totally oblivious to the fact that this may be useful information. It "looked" like our o-line really struggled on the first two series when KC had their starting front in the game, but then did fine vs. second string? I thought our second string D front guys did okay vs. KC starters (minus Mahomes). Biggest takeaways for me are that 1) Coverage teams still have a ways to go 2) O-line without Bak & Jenkins would take a lot of game planning to minimize their weaknesses. 3) Defense has good depth

I only maintained enough interest through the first half. Nothing really stood out other than a few nice throws 10 made. Amari was finally given more opportunities and he looked OK but really no different than any other young WR on the roster. ST coverage...same as it ever was.
These PS games are probably even harder to judge than they were when there were 4. Say last night - how much scheme was employed and what was the thinking behind the play calling? How long and how many of KC's starters played? How much of their scheme was employed, play calling, etc? It looked like a lot of vanilla vs vanilla last night so you'd really have to zoom in on the 1-on-1's. Did players beat their man and who was that man?
We're really not going to know much more about this team for another 2 weeks, aside from final cut downs and if XYZ coming off of injury starts taking reps with the 1's.
My biggest takeaway...when Jordan Love remains calm, good things happen. When he gets spooked, shit goes off schedule. He's the anti-Bert who thrived in chaos, and for most of his career, when he threw ill-advised balls, it more often than not paid off. Only later in his career did it hurt him more than help him.
When 10's footwork is good, his throws are good. Some of his overthrows appear to come from he may be trying to hard...old QB coach I know used to yell at his QB's "stop aiming the fucking ball!" Follow the mechanics and fundamentals, and throw to a spot on the field...good things will happen.
The best thing 10 can mimic 12 on is preparation and work ethic. Everything else, he will be best served learning from MLF and Clements. He needs to run the offense, he needs to stick to his progressions, he needs to be a system QB. If he does that I think he will be successful and have a chance of being successful when 12 hangs it up...which may happen after this season if it ends up with a title.
Awfully difficult to judge PS#3 simply because of who was and wasn’t playing. I watched bits and pieces and some of highlights. Best news is no injuries of note for most if not all the preseason.
MLF seems to have a good handle on this group and commented last week that preseason is just one piece of the puzzle with player evaluation. He made a point to say preparation and practice mattered as well.
That being said, if I’m a guy like Amari Rodgers or Ty Summers or Tyler Davis I should be really concerned. To a lesser degree, so should Patrick Taylor. I know he’s a better ST player than Goodson, but I’m not sure he’s Jarrett Bush either. I’d keep Goodson because he’s a weapon running and receiving.
As for Love, it’s good he got a lot of reps in preseason and yes you can see some improvement but if he has to see any amount of extended playing time in the regular season it could get ugly. You have to hope Clements can work his magic but coaching can only do so much for these guys (see special teams).
My biggest concern watching last night was the quality of our d-line depth. KC was blowing guys off the line. I tried to focus on Wyatt and he was being tossed around like a rag doll.
95 is not doing great...he will need a year to absorb - i think the mental part of it has him slowed down. i can't remember who mentioned it - but a coach did - dt is one of the hardest mental rep positions to play.
Positive to me as always in preseason if no injuries are reported
I haven't seen the previous preseason games and to me Love still has work to do but IMHO he is starting to make progress.

Andy Reid needs to get healthy and take off some weight before its too late. Also the boob sweat was nasty.

Wyatt and Rhyan have not been good so far.
To be more accurate on Wyatt, IIRC he had a quiet camp, then showed out in PS#1 then went quiet again.

I thought the oline looked awful the first couple of series and looked very overmatched against the Chiefs starters although they played pretty well after that.
Biggest negative: Christian Watson did not play and I think he’s a guy that needs as many reps as he can get with all the time he’s missed.
Positive: The WR 2022 draft picks that did play look good. The 7th rounder looks like he could maybe be a decent slot receiver if given a chance. He’s not Doubs, but I think he could stick in the NFL for a few years. Maybe they can get away with stashing Tourre on PS for this year.

I saw Nebraska at Camp Randall last year--Toure looked like the best player on the field. He looked good last night. I agree-Ryhan had another rough night--It will be a tough call between Taylor and Goodson. Goodson seems like a more natural receiver with a quicker pivot and he made one really nice pass block last night. Taylor can move the pile a bit more.

DL is a tough position to do well in your first year no matter how good you are. It just takes time - body maturity, developing technique against far better competition than college, learning the defense, reading offenses. We'll know a lot more about him next year, but if he can give us a few quality reps this year, that's a major plus.

The funny thing is, a lot of the same people saying "don't judge Love on the box score," are judging D-Wy on the box score because he didn't look like Aaron Donald.
People did the same shit with Rashan Gary, in spite of KO telling the media "Rashan impacts plays, regardless if he's getting sacks."
D-Wy impacted plays the last two weeks in a big way. Holman does a good job illustrating that. Lots of people wanted to give up on Gary the first two years...look at him now.

I was hoping to see him too. Bummer. But he sounds like a smart kid. Rodgers gave him a new read in practice this week. Something he's never seen before. And he ran it perfectly on the first try. I'm not too worried about this kid.

Yes, they did have a rough start. I think KC was throwing some actual game planning at them and it threw them off initially. Then they adjusted and took over. I think it was Kuhn that mentioned that LaFluer was giving Reid the stink eye about some stunts they were running and he said OK, we can play that game.

IIRC, the Chiefs played their starters in the first quarter sans Mahomes, no? That would definitely make a difference.
Last nights DL would have looked better if Amos, Alexander, Stokes and Savage were playing DBs, not Abernathy, Carprnter, Nixon and Gafford.
