Can you say BLACK OUT??  What's up with so many tickets left.....d*mn.  Wish I could afford them.

GREEN BAY — It seems unthinkable that Lambeau Field wouldn't sell out for a Packers playoff game. Yet thousands of tickets are still available for Sunday's wild-card game against the 49ers.

According to NFL rules, the game has to sell out by Thursday at 3:40 p.m. to avoid a blackout in the local TV market. That's 72 hours before kickoff. However, the league has given extensions in previous years for playoff games, and it's monitoring the Packers' progress.

Part of the reason tickets are available is that an early deadline for season-ticket holders to reserve tickets arrived when the team was mired in a five-game winless streak.

In addition, temperatures are expected to be frigid Sunday.

Frigid temps have NEVER stopped fans before.

They'll probably get an extension to sell the remaining tix. In the event it does not sell out I wonder if the Pack would buy up the remainder at 34 cents on the dollar, as they are allowed to do, to insure it wont be blacked out? Otherwise, if it gets blacked out I believe that includes Milwaukee. Sure gonna be a lot of squawking from the Milw area and GB if it gets blacked out. I get MAdison TV so should be OK where I live, and I cant afford to go either.

Going forward, with the recent expansion of 7,000 extra seats to a capacity of over 80,000 (non-premium seats) it may be harder to sell out playoff games, especially with the very cold and or snowy weather in January. Sell outs for the regular season are guaranteed, but playoffs may be a harder sell, especially if the general concensus is they are not going far in the playoffs anyway, which many people around here believe this year.

As a public service announcement, Silverstein has been tweeting about areas which would or would not be affected by a black out.

@TomSilverstein: If #Packers-#49ers is blacked out, Green Bay, Milwaukee, Wausau would be affected. Madison, La Crosse, Eau Claire, e.g., wouldn't.

@TomSilverstein: #Packers have until 3:40 p.m. Thursday to sell out to avoid a blackout. NFL does grant extensions.

@TomSilverstein: You're good. RT @jstanly11: @TomSilverstein upper peninsula?

@TomSilverstein: Blackout. RT @jrpros: @TomSilverstein how about Appleton

@TomSilverstein: Incidentally, if you buy #Packers tickets from TM, you must print them out. There will be no will call pickup.

Well, no one is saying that sponsors WILL but them right now.. Packers still have time and tickets can still be sold.

Let's not forget GB fans didn't even know there was going to be a playoff game until Sunday night. And this team was all but dead in the water a few weeks ago.

They made a decent dent today. Let's see how close they get before plan B of sponsor buying occurs.

If your tickets are in the new, upper section take a big/long blanket and tent the radiated heat from the heated concrete.
