This is pretty crazy, but I think we'll see more of this in the future.  Add 7K in capacity to the smallest market by far, in butt cold weather.

I don't think people aren't buying tix because they don't think the team will make a run. One of the reasons, IMO, is that plans have been made for that week, and to drop those to go to go to a Sunday late afternoon/night game, within a week, is tough to do.

I would consider driving up from south of Chicago if the game were early Sunday or any time on Saturday.  But the late game on Sunday with Monday being a work day does not really make it possible.  The cold doesn't help.

We didn't know the Packers were IN the playoffs until :38 left in Q4 vs. the Bears late on Sunday.

This is the main reason 40,000 tickets were available now down to 5,000 or so

As much as I thank the NFL for making the switch to more division games in the final two weeks, this might be a downside of that, division winners are crowned later giving fans less time to plan for playoff games.

While I was happy to see the Packers add more seats to Lambeau, I kinda had a feeling that something like this may happen down the road if they had a bad season. Of course the Packers also kinda screwed themselves with their dumb policy on playoff tickets, but these are the playoffs! If I lived within a 12 hour drive of Lambeau, you'd better believe I would be there on Sunday. If you live within 750 miles from Green Bay, there are no excuses

I would love to go but I have to pay the legalized criminals in the state of wisconsin. Such as property taxes, Health insurance premiums with no benefits, and not to mention 2013 income taxes.  Sorry Packers. No extra money for you

No need for hotels. Jump in the car at 1 am and drive, man!

Another reason why I wouldn't consider going under these temperatures. Note: I went to the Lions game 12/22/90- it was as cold as they're predicting this to be and there were 10K no shows. Those bleacher seats are barely adequate when the ticketed fans are wearing shirtsleeves. Add 3-4 layers of insulation and someone's getting bumped into the aisle.

I'm not certain if this is legal, but can they make buying playoff tickets a requirement for season ticket holders?  If the Packers did that, I'm sure they'd lose some season ticket holders.  But with 100,000 people on the waiting list, maybe they'd find plenty willing to follow those rules.

they do that here in San Diego...IF you are a season ticket holder, you must send in your $$$ for playoffs when they send you the form (usually Thanksgiving or right after)...then, IF the Chargers do NOT make the playoffs, that $$$ goes towards the next year's season tix.   I don't know if it's legal...but...it's the way they've been doing it for a while now...

one last thought about temp and adaptability as I just got back from walking to my barn and back with nothing but a long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and mudkickers at a temp of -4.  three weeks ago I wouldn't have done that.  but over a month of temps around 10 and 20 feels like a heatwave and 0 ain't so bad.

the wind will kill you every time in any of those temps but otherwise it's all livable and not bad at all if you're working.

905 miles for me.  15+ hour drive.  Am I forgiven?

510 miles for me.  But the short notice and the money issues are problems for me right now.  And even if I could solve those, I have a daughter who unexpectedly delivered a child 2 months early that has special problems of it's own.  Aside from the survival issues, the child is born with brittle bones.  Already the child has at least two operations and a life of the appropriate drugs to look forward too.  So we are considering going down there for a couple weeks to help care for the three grand kids while the parents get their life re-figured out.  For sure my wife is going, I am considering it.  For me those kids trump a Packer game anytime.  I did go the Atlanta game.  I think at my age one cold weather game a year is enough.  I would like to go to a game when the temps are in the 50s or 60s for a change.

My thoughts and prayers to you and your family, Ghost.  Absolutely it puts things in persepective...a lot of things we just take for granted all of sudden makes us all notice how precious life is and that we should live each day thankful for what we have and not what we dont' have.

I live in Sheboygan, and could afford to buy a ticket.  The cold weather isn't a big deal for me.  I have a nice thick layer of blubber and tend to get plenty of antifreeze onboard for those games.  Here's the problem, I bought three tickets already this year - Chicago, Philly, and Pittsburgh.  That's right, I'm 0-3.  This year, if I go to Lambeau they lose, otherwise the worst they've done is tie.  I'll listen to thing on the radio before I put that bad juju on them.

Stay home Vega!

I am just over 5 hours away, but have a flight leaving at 6 am Monday for work.  That's hard enough for me as it is with how getting through an airport is these days.  I won't be blacked out, but I have full faith that will not be an issue.

Family is always first. I see no reason for anyone ever to apologize to anyone that posts here... it's a forum afterall.  But good thoughts and well wishes to all who have larger concerns that take their time and dime.

We all understand!

I know it is an anathema to die hard packer fans, but there will be a retractable roof over Lambeau within the next 20 years!

You know...I've been thinking about that ever since the AZ Cards put in a covered stadium but had real grass moved into it on tracks.

I'm not an engineer, but you'd think there would be some way to cover the stadium for just these type of games...the frigid cold games.  It wouldn't have to be permanent or make the stadium look/feel like an indoor stadium (like Miller Field)...but some type of covering that would keep the bitter cold and wind out just for 8 hours on one day when needed...

similar in strategy to what the ancient Romans did for the Coliseum when the sun was brutally hot...they had Sailors pull a huge Tarp and hold in in place...

Maybe get the local Eagle Scouts to do it to raise funds?

Thought about buying some tickets but then decided against it.    For me it wasn't so much the cold temps or the price or the fact that SF is a better team (on paper anyway) but I've been sick all week and we have family obligations over the weekend.

I applaud and respect those that are going to the game but everyone has their reasons why they've chosen not to go.

If there is a silver lining at least they aren't playing Monday.   The high temps are supposed to be -12 - WTF indeed

If I lived in the area, I'd be in. Though the '04 playoff game I went to was like 20 degrees at kickoff and that was more than cold enough combined with the crappy game. I'd have the sense to dress warmer this time. I don't think I factored in the fact that when you're sitting there watching a football game you're not moving.

In the era of HDTV it makes a lot of sense to catch the game at home. Sitting in 0 degree weather while the home viewers take in 90+ minutes of commercials is a bit much.
