Packers drafting offense in round 1?

What if those are the best players available?

I was going to use the option "Whatever kworst thinks is best," but it wasn't there.

While I agree that drafting for need often gets you John Michael or Jamaal Reynolds, the teams needs at DL OLB and Safety as well as CB tell me that SOMEONE who can contribute this year will be available.

Stephen Hill is fast and all, but he's kind of an unknown since GT runs Tebow offense.

I want Worthy is he's there at 28.

I thought he retired. Looked Kareem like with the goggles!

I didn't think GB needed a WR in the 2nd round with Cobb but after taking him and seeing what he did for our ST's, once again TT proved me Rong.

If he feels a WR or TE fell to 28 and it's player he didn't expect there and takes him so be it. Apparently TT struggled when Crabtree fell to #9. When it was between he and Raji, he really debated taking Crabtree.

Good question. I can understand and basically like the overriding philosophy but is simply does not make any sense at all to add another TE or WR when those positions are well stocked and the defense was so sorely lacking last year. What if Andrew Luck fell all the way to the Packers' turn like Rodgers did? Are we supposed to take him?

Besides how can you at all accurately compare a WR to a DE when the things they do are so different?

If it seems like there's no one worth a first round pick when it's your turn make a trade for more picks.

I actually would draft Luck if that happened. Hold him hostage until a team gets so desperate at QB that they give up all of their top picks and a key player to get him.

Sometimes I wonder whether TT gets excited at the thought of watching people freak out over his drafting/free agent decisions.

Ok let see, do we draft a guy who we think there is an excellent chance to be a star player but he plays on offence. Or do we draft this defensive guy who we think maybe just ok.
Ted drafts his board, if a guy is undrafted at 28 who Ted see as a top ten talent, Ted is going to draft the higher rated guy. On the other hand if he difference between the offensive player and the d-player is slight he is going to draft t for need. Raji and Crabtree an example of Ted drafting need over absolute position on his board

I get the feeling that the first round pick for the Packers will be Wisconsin OL Kevin Zeitler. Just a hunch.

Absolutely! Can you imagine what MM could do with Luck?! It's never happening. Colts are drafting Luck & they should be negotiating a contract already.

McGinn has already stated (via his sources) TT had Raji & Crabtree nearly interchangeable. I think Crabtree may have been rated just slightly higher. I would have been ok with either choice & Raji did help us win a Super Bowl.

I dont mind Ted taking BPA - even if it is a TE. However, he needs to trade some of those guys if he does. You can't go into the season with 5 TEs on the roster when your DL sucks the bag the way it did. The pass rush last season is what precluded us from winning a superbowl. You can't let Archie Jr. sit back there for 5-6 seconds and pick you apart. We need guys that can get to the QB.

Hell yes. Same thing with RG3.

If Luck or RG3 fell all the way to the Packers TT would gat Lawerence Welk or a 1, a 2, and a 1 2 3.

This is my thinking as well. I mean, the Packers' defense was bad last year and Woodson is getting older.

The only way TT is drafting RG3 or Luck is if we move Rodgers and are drafting 1 or 2.

yes, i'd be upset, we have plenty of both. plus i honestly don't think either one is worth a 1st round pick.

If we're going offense in the first it should be an offensive linemen or a running back.

I believe we have the following needs:

DT (Back up for Raji)
DE (Replacement for Walden)
OLB (Opposite Matthews has not been fully addressed)
CB (slot - Woodson is getting old)
FS (Replacement for Collins AND depth)
C (Long term replacement for Wells)
RB (Green injured, not sold on Starks, Grant is gone, Saine?; serviceable, but need a body)

Seems like I would be scratching my head if TT used the first round pick on a RB. I submit that we should look at his history.

Looking at previous TT 1st round picks, he has : Defensive tackle (2), linebacker (2), tackle (2), quarterback.

And history has told us (based upon my view of the team needs), DT, and OLB were filled with 1st round pics. CB (Lee) DE (Neal), FS (Collins) were 2nd round pics (Burnett was a 3rd), and C and other interior lineman were drafted in the 2nd (Colledge) and later rounds (Spitz-3, Sitton-4, Lang-4 and higher). TT also made other positional picks: RB was drafted 2nd (BJax) and higher (Green a 3rd). TE was drafted 3rd (Finley) and higher. He hasn't drafted a WR higher than a 2nd.

I think it would be slightly out of character for TT to draft a TE in round 1. It would be less surprising to draft a WR in round 1. That said, if he didn't get his LB or DT, I wouldn't be surprised to see him trade out of round 1 and pick up any two of FS, CB, RB, OLB, DT or DE in round 2.

I believe in TT- and I am not a GM.

Nick Perry, Andre Branch, Mark Barron, and Worthy should all be on the board at 28. I can't see GB going any direction other than those 4 unless they trade out and drop down.

need a core player with the #1. not some here today gone tomorrow WR or some rookie TE duplicate.

What if that offensive player is a running back? There are some that project right around there.

IMHO, and I think NFL-wide, the days of a RB going with a #1 draft pick are lessening. Dime a dozen has been my view for quite awhile. If you gots the horses up front you can make a star out of almost any NFL caliber RB.

If a RB is the obvious BPA on your board, you take him. If that does happen, Grant definitely walks (if he wasn't already). You have Starks, Green, Saine and Rookie...

These are the top 10 players I project being available at 28:

2. Ohio St. OT Mike Adams
3. Georgia Tech WR Stephen Hill
4. Illinois DE Whitney Mercilus
5. Clemson DT Brandon Thompson
6. North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins
7. Clemson DE Andre Branch
8. LSU WR Reuben Randle
9. North Carolina OLB Zach Brown
10. Miami RB Lamar Miller

I'm really not seeing a player I could imagine them taking or that I think would truly be worth that pick. Nick Perry is a fine pass rusher, but I'm just not sold on him as an OLB, same for Mercilus.

I'm predicting trade up or trade down. I think there are 3 guys they will look very hard at and could trade up for: Wisconsin C Peter Konz, Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick, and Michigan St. DT Jerel Worthy. I think all 3 of those guys could go anywhere from 18 to 27 so a trade up wouldn't be a huge deal. I also think, as PackerJoe pointed out in his Mock Draft, that a trade down is also extremely likely. I wouldn't be surprised if our draft is very similar to the 2008 draft where we traded around and ended up with three 2nd round picks and a couple 3rd rounders. It just feels like this year, like 2008, that the real value picks will happen in rounds 2 and 3.

Pass rush please.

Jerel Worthy is a good player, but doesn't he suffer from "Cletidus Hunt Syndrome", taking plays off? He's definitely got the talent.

I'm just entertained by the idea of having a Mercilus player on my team.

Sounds more like he'd be a better fit on the Saints with their bounty program

Worthy is a little inconsistent with his effort, but when he's giving 100% he's as good as any player in the country. Trgovac has shown that he can get a lot out of his guys and if he can get Worthy to play to his talent then he could be a real steal. Boom or bust player with a lot of upside.

With the Packers drafting in their normal late position due to consistent regular season excellence ( ), I like it when TT goes to the BPA O or D lineman. Most of the top skill guys are off the board and there are really good big uglies to be had late in round 1. Plus, the Packers have needs in both lines. OL in particular has been an issue the entire MM era. I don't understand why the Packers always seem to be short on OL depth.

TT has addressed the d line in F/A. Plus I'm sure the Packers still have hopes for Neal and the redshirt from AZ ST. Makes me think he won't go there with #1 unless someone TT likes slides down the board. I don't like Worthy. I think he is one of those "I'll play hard when I want to" guys.

So i think TT has targeted an OLB, but if an OL is there he likes it wouldn't surprise me to see him go that way for the 3rd consecutive year.

A trade out of round 1 wouldn't surprise me, either, then go (in any order) OLB/S/OL/Corner in rounds 2-4.

If Worthy is one of those "I'll play hard when I want to" guys, TT will know it & pass on him.

They look for football players & players that enjoy playing the game. They'll know.

TT has said more than once that if there's a chance to get a tallanted big guy, you do it because they're the hardest guys to find regardless of whether they play offense or defense.
