OLB Coach
Replies sorted oldest to newest
I think he and MM were in New Orleans at the same time
Foo, where are you reading OLB for Zook?
** edit ** nevermind
From his wiki page
In the 2000 and 2001 seasons, Zook served as the defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints. In 2000, the Saints finished 10-6 with Zook's defense ranking 10th in points allowed. DT LaRoi Glover led the team with 17 Sacks followed by 12 from DE Joe Johnson and 11 by DE Darren Howard.
OLB today, DC tomorrow?
He's here to help recruit UDFA's to GB.
I'm excited! He knows thugspeak!
So, to recap, Packers have hired Ron Zook as OLBs coach and Sam Gash as RBs coach. Both are NFL-experienced coaches.

Am told that Zook may not necessarily be replacing Kevin Greene. May be some shuffling around. But Zook is being hired.
I just hope Zook can talk loud enough and slow enough to help the moron's understand the defense. If he can pop warner around on the field as well, that would be a bonus.
zookinator....somewhere James Campen is smiling
Zook's background is with DB's. Maybe Darren Perry is being moved somewhere else and Zook is here to try and fix the Safety situation?
EDIT: Asst. Special Teams? That seems odd for a guy with his background? Maybe he will help with the defense some also.
Sam Gash seems like a good hire. He's gotten a surprising amount out of his players despite having very little to work with. Kevin Smith and Jahvid Best had their careers cut short by concussions and Mikel Leshoure couldn't stay off the weed long enough to be productive. He got Reggie Bush playing pretty well and he's gotten a lot out of Joique Bell.

Zook coached special teams with the Gators and Steelers in the past. Guessing he is trying to get back in coaching circles and this position does just that.

Yeah, he is an amazing recruiter, but his teams always underachieved.
It's all good, as long as he doesn't try and change Crosby's kicking motion.
Slocum's replacement; Zook will spend a year as his assistant and then take his job
We can always use a little more Gash.
Probably right Satori:
Zook might be the most overqualified special teams assistant in league history.
Here were Ron Zook's annual Gosselin (Dallas M-News) rankings as ST coach of Steelers: 23rd in 1994, 12th in 1995 and 23rd in 1996.
Definitely right Packfoo
Great H5, I'd love to rise from 32 to 23 Draft & DEVELOP!!
To be fair technology has really evolved for coaches since 1996. For example...
Seems like patching with bubble gum so far.
Zook, really? The same Ron Zook who was epic failure at Illinois? Oh boy, I think the Packers could do better than that.
ammo - they aren't making him the HC or even the OC or DC. Asst ST seems fairly safe for now, and he has had success as a STC or DC if they eventually go that route with him.
Yeah, pretty sure the extent of Zook's duties will include inflating/deflating footballs for Crosby and making Starbucks runs for MM.
Maybe, but nothing compared to this:
Sons of Mike Zimmer, Norv Turner, Gary Kubiak on Vikings staff. Adam Zimmer is LBs, Scott Turner is QBs, Klint Kubiak is asst WRs.
I love the Vikings
