Packers Sign Vince Young

Packers may have lost their franchise T and now they're bringing in Vince Young.

 

Please tell me I'm drunk....

As some already referenced, #Packers have placed a lot of emphasis on defending the read-option. Young could give better look than 6 or 9

Can he play place kicker?

Why not? M3 is considered a QB genius and if somehow this works, losing Harrell or BJC is no great shakes. Reid already failed with him as a reclamation project so IMO, nothing likely will come of this.

 

I think I was listed him as one of my "veteran QB backups" or something of the nature awhile ago so I expect some apologies if this works out. I wish Artist/TD was still around. I'm sure he would be able to find that post of mine...

Why am I not surprised Chickenboy thinks this is a good idea?

I'm guessing cb and td are sending warm fuzzies over PM constantly anyway, so it is about the same.

And, at the end of the day, hoping Young is flying back home WITHOUT a contract.

Nothing  big here. The Packers have a couple open roster slots, Young will not get much  money. Let him run the pistol in train camp and cut him in a few weeks, or he is the back up QB.

Maybe just extra motivation for Coleman. Hasn't played in a while and kind of a distracting presence. But the Packers have been known to take a shot at quarterbacks on their way out of the league before. At some point somebody thought this guy could play so why not take a look? 

 

Can he play LT?

+1. Young is the type of QB that killed us last year, so use him as a camp body. Cheap, no harm done, and - knock on wood - if AR goes down, they could run the pistol. Heck, throw him in the mix as a TE, LT or RT. 

He's 31-19 as a starter and perhaps could be a better option than either Harrell or Coleman. 

 

In TT I trust.

Obviously, if AR goes down for any period of time the season goal is lost anyhow.... That said, there's gotta be much better options out there than Harrell and Coleman regardless if it's Young or somebody else. 

But, PLEASE don't get hurt trying to tackle him when he's doing the read option thingee!

Did I finally get my veteran backup QB?

 

And will only be paid if he makes the team (assuming no guaranteed $$).

My guess is Harrell will be released.  Young will be the backup and Coleman makes the practice squad.  They've had enough time to see what Harrell has or doesn't have so keep Coleman and try and develop him.  But, who knows.

I think Packy nailed it.  Harrell is not a great option at all, and he's hit his ceiling, so if Young has anything left, he backs up and gives Coleman another year.

 

 

You guys keep in mind this is Vince Young we're talking about.

Vince Young. Let that sink in for a minute.

 

He was (still may be) more physically gifted than Harrell or Coleman, and he does have starting experience, but to learn our offense well enough to jettison either of our current guys...that's a stretch.

Not to mention learning/knowing the tendencies of the receivers, making reads (quickly and correctly), and many more things he hasn't done in 2 years. Or longer.

Quite frankly, any player with talent at QB is welcomed over Harrell. Nothing against the guy personally but he isn't an NFL QB

What are they going to do? Have someone else call the plays in the huddle? Vince Young isn't a rocket surgeon or a brain scientist.
