Ya know, I’m feeling like Blair Kiel.

I’m really not that upset by this loss, because this team has so many God damned problems that it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. I’m completely indifferent.

This might be the worst Packers coaching staff in my lifetime, and I lived through the years of having Bart Starr and Forrest Gregg on the sidelines.

At least those teams were fun to watch. We had no defense, but Dickey to Lofton, Coffman and Jefferson was entertaining.

This Packers team is just cringeworthy in every facet of the game, and these problems have been a big part of this team for a while. Only we had a historically great quarterback that was able to overcome so many of them, and buy us the time to correct them. Only they haven’t been corrected because the entire senior management team, from the general manager on down, are clueless.

Mental mistakes. Getting physically whipped, be it by the Buccaneers front seven, or Nick or Joey Bosa, or Maxx Crosby.

Can’t stop the run. Can’t stay healthy. Shit time management. Boneheaded play calling. Porous zone defenses.

These are the problems we had when McCarthy was here. And they’re STILL problems.

I’ll never give up hope, but I need to see progress, even a little. And I’m not seeing any.

Biggest negative:

Joe Barry did the best coaching job on the staff tonight.  And any night that Joe Barry does the best job on the staff, you’re 100% going to lose, because he sucks.  But tonight, he sucked a little bit less than the offensive coaches did.

Positive:

The Packers did play hard tonight and hung in there.  Doesn’t feel like much of a positive since they lost but effort wasn’t the issue, execution was.

+   Carlson, Dillon, Preston and Rashan

-    Nothing is changing on this team. Lackluster play, stupid penalties, unforced errors week in and week out. We see flashes of good stuff from a handful of guys, almost in spite of the coaching at this point. This is as good as it will get under this staff, and now you can see Love pressing to the point of needing to make a play. Getting behind the sticks on down and distance is about as inept a position you could put a young qb in. Yes, JL played poorly, but a coach with any salt could have won this game tonight.

If there was any leadership and emphasis on clean, fundamental play, they could be 4-1 right now. Clean up the bullshit, get people on the same page, play to your strengths, then let's see how they can compete. I feel like all three units are hamstrung by dogshit coaching, and this is how it will be until they're forced to clean house. To add to it, on top of everything, MLF has hitched his wagon to a garbage DC that will see them both out the door.

Growing pains were expected. This was a winnable game. Lafleur isnt qualified to coach. He was living off a QB who could improvise or he just doesn't have a clue himself how to adjust to whatever the defense is doing.  I really think he likes being able to control Jordan Love and makes him run plays that shouldn't be run.

Preston Smith dropped in coverage on Adams should = fired.

Preston Smith covering Davante Adams is the stuff of comical memes that are already being produced in mass.

Barry playing Rudy Ford and co. 10 yards off the WR while the Raiders were on the Packers 10 yard line …it’s literally Groundhog Day year in and year out with Dingle Barry.

This team has no identity and it seems on offense,  they have no clue what they are doing or who they are.

A top 10 pick in the draft seems very plausible at this point.

Nothing defined the problems more than plays where Preston Smith was covering Adams on a key play or when TEs were assigned to block Crosby on a sack. I seriously think the biggest problem on this team is coaching.

Barry takes plenty of heat. Why is the OC getting a pass? Here's a guy that was an OL coach for a year or two and gets promoted to OC. And MLF leaves a lot to be desired. Calling a TO before the half on defense when the Raiders were ready to pack it in was saved by a blocked FG. And have we ever seen a team come out flat to open a game week after week? He only had 11 days to get them ready.

Vince Lombardi took a 1-10-1 team that looked hopeless and turned them around to a 7-5 team in his first season. In his second season, they lost the NFL Championship by 7 yards. In his third, they won the first of five championships in seven seasons.

The point? Coaching makes all the difference.

That 1-10-1 1959 Packers team had five future Hall of Famers (Starr, Hornung, Ringo, Nitschke and Dillon), and two others with strong Hall arguments (Howton and Forrester).

Lombardi came in and kicked their asses. He made sure they were the best physically conditioned team in the NFL, bar none. He instilled discipline. Making mistakes had consequences.

Bart Starr said about Lombardi β€œhe came into the first team meeting and said, β€˜Gentlemen, I’m not remotely interested in being merely good. We are going to relentlessly pursue perfection, knowing that perfection is unattainable. But in doing so, we will achieve greatness.’”

Lombardi was tough. But Lombardi was fair. You had to earn his respect, and he would ride players hard when he knew they were underachieving. He chewed Jerry Kramer out in front of the team one time, and after the practice, Kramer sat dejected in the locker room. Lombardi came in, came up to him, and said, β€œJerry, you’re going to be the best offensive lineman in the NFL.”

We all know these stories.

Do any of us feel that Matt LaFleur is a disciplinarian? That he demands greatness from his players? He allows a mediocre defensive coordinator to keep his job. That speaks volumes to his players. LaFleur wants to be the β€œgood guy”.

There is no toughness to this team, mental or otherwise. Matt LaFleur’s team is the antithesis of everything Vince Lombardi stood for.

Comparing football 60 years ago to today??????????????? WTF

Why not?

The game is different, absolutely. Players make a lot more money. They’re bigger and stronger.

Have the fundamentals to team success changed? No.

You don’t think a team takes on the character of its head coach? Look at Detroit. They’re perennial losers. They’ve won a single playoff game since 1957.

Dan Campbell has his players, and the fans in Detroit believing. They play hard and aggressive. They hit. They’re 4-1, and they’re starting to gain some swagger.

Have we seen this Packers team come out once in the Matt LaFleur era and punch the other team in the mouth? When was the last time the Green Bay Packers physically whipped an opponent? We can’t even get our starting team on the field because they’re so soft.

Nobody fears this team. Nobody has feared this team in a long time, because everybody knows that a Matt LaFleur/Joe Barry team is going to fold like a cheap suit when the pressure is on.

Sixty years later, it holds true. Detroit put on a clinic in that Thurs night game essentially using the same tools as Lombardi once did. Block the guy you're supposed to block, be in position to tackle the guy when you are within range, don't give the opposition the advantage by making mistakes that are unforced. As much as the Loins are our rival, fans of the game should appreciate the way that team is coached and how clear it is as evidenced on the field. Watch any  portions of Detroit, Philly, SF or KC games and you don't see them beating themselves with missed tackles or blown assignments. When there are consequences, you don't see mistakes like we do every single week. That stems directly from the tone set by the coaching staff. And it's clear that MLF is incapable of truly instilling fundamentals. If it were a phase, it would iron itself out with coaching. It's not a phase. It's become the team's identity and calling card for teams to exploit under MLF.

+++ I thought the D-line played well, especially the interior. Lots of push/collapsing the pocket.

+++ gave up <100 yards rushing and only 3.3 average

+++ there was consistent pressure on Jimmy G

+++ D Adams was held in check pretty much the entire game

+++ 4 sacks and an INT

- - - Jordan Love seemed like he was rushing after every snap, absolutely no rhythm to the passing game; would be interested to see how many pass attempts were between 10-25 yards, and how many were completed

- - - either the play calling by LaFleur sucked or Love sucked even more than I thought

- - -  Patrick Taylor touched the ball or had a pass intended 7 times; the O-line and the QB never gave him a chance

- - - this offense is horrendous in the screen game: I remember the days of Favre and early AR and they were virtually unstoppable running the screen play.they haven’t been consistently effective in a decade plus.

+ No Barry fan but he was a positive tonight. Continuously changed fronts / coverages with both starting ILBers out and held them to 14 pts (they got 3 off one of our TOs) and 279 total yards.

+ Instead of pouting that he isn't playing, Josh Nyman gave a great effort to deflect the FG attempt.

- We lost all momentum when we couldn't get it in the end zone with first and goal from the 5.

- At least three drives we had a negative first down play.

- Offense looked completely disjointed. Similar to Lions first half, we had too many plays where our receivers all ran to approximately the same depth and just turned around. No crossing paterns to open up the middle of the field.

- Let's be realistic, without Jones our offense just isn't good enough. With him I think we can be what I thought we'd be .... around a .500 team.

Not sure exactly what positives there are other than our kicker, semi decent pass rush, and holding a team to under 20 points. Still, let’s be clear this isn’t a good Las Vegas team offensively or defensively.

It’s becoming obvious to me that without a really good OL and healthy Aaron Jones that Jordan Love is just a guy.  It looks like it takes him a lot of time to process and make decisions and honestly I don’t know how well he sees the field?    Maybe that improves, maybe it doesn’t, but he’s more likely to be an OK to above average starter than become the next elite QB.

Joe Barry is still an idiot, and MLF looks lost and overmatched so that’s not a good combination. The fact that they had a week and a half to prepare and the offense did nothing speaks volumes to MLFs ability to get the team ready.

Then there’s the roster.  Guys like Doubs and Musgrave and Watson did not play well but at what point do we need to keep cutting Watson slack?   If Gute really did have a trade offer for Taylor straight up (Watson) then that was a missed opportunity.  Having a guy like Taylor - especially with uncertainty on Aaron Jones - would allow Jordan Love to settle in a bit more and not have to try to carry the offense.   I view Watson a lot like I view Jordan Love - a guy with a lot of physical talent that hasn’t (and maybe won’t) put it all together.

If my math is right there are 5 teams at 1-4 and the Panthers are 0-5.  The Packers are closer to those teams than they are a borderline playoff team IMO.  This is what sucks about Rodgers getting hurt.   That extra 1st rounder - parlayed with what looks like a top 10 pick right now for GB- could be used to go after a QB in the draft next year.

I realize there’s a lot of football to be played yet but I think we need to consider this might just not be a very good football team.

I would argue that they have been getting getting beat physically for much longer than just the MLF era it has been a trend with this team for quite awhile.  This has been a trend for a long time and with the exception of a year here or there where they played tough.  Some fans compare this team to teams of the 80s.  Well those 80s teams even though they were entertaining at times had no hope none. This team does have hope and a future with some really good young talent.  It may not seem like it now but mark my words.

Positives:

This team is young REALLY young and they won't say it but they are rebuilding right now and learning on the fly and it may take a little time

They tried running the ball and stuck to it which is something they need to do to calm Love down

Negatives:

Injuries

Defensively they are just soft.  I don't know how many times the DBs just kind of tried to play touch football and don't stick and be hard nosed

Barry playing DBs off the line 10+ yards when they were inside the 10 yard line.  I will never understand doing that.

+ we cannot be surprised this was going to happen.  we knew this was going to be this way...bumps, bumps, bumps...opie was good, 91,97, 28 was trying.

- bumps suck.  this sucked.  stop putting the packers on primetime, its exhausting...everybody else pretty much sucked.

surprised at how bad 10 looked.  not sure if he gets happy feet with feeling pressure? otherwise the recipe on him is in.
