Packers are signing WR Davante Adams to a multi-year contract extension, per sources. Deal either will be for 4 or 5 years, at roughly $14 million per year. Adams was scheduled to be a free agent.

No brainer there. It will be interesting to see what that means for Jordy or Cobb.
Nice! Tae sure earned it.
I suspect they have some protection should the concussions become career-threatening.
TT simply doesn't let the young core players get away. More details:
#Packers are signing WR Davante Adams to a 4-year extension worth $58M, source says. $18M to sign. $32M in the first 2 years.

36 million for three receivers next year is not happening. Jordy may be retiring. Wouldn't surprise me if he announced this next week.
He has certainly come a long way since the Duhvante days.
Randall Cobb has one more year left on his 4-year, $40 million deal while Jordy Nelson has one more season on a 4-year, $39 million deal. One or both could be in danger of being released or having to take a pay cut this offseason, per @RobDemovsky.

Never been so glad to be rong. I was convinced he'd let Tae walk.

The fact we didn't realize he was playing on basically one good leg that year had a lot to do with it.
I hope the kid gets and remains healthy and gets to sign another big contract!
I like him. Thanks Ted.
I support the signing, but has any WR in NFL history signed for a contract even at 2/3rds of this value without having a single 1000 yard season?
Thanks TT - hope the league comes down harder on those head hunters causing two concussions. Hope the league implements the college ejection rule for targeting. I also would like to see the perpetrator be suspended for the duration the injured player is inactive.
Signing bonus does seem high for a 4 year contract, would have been pretty much right on the money if it had been a five year deal (which would have put it at 5 years, 72.5 million).
Now we can all wring our hands about how the salary cap boogie man is going to sink the Packers in 2021.
"At $14.7 million per season, Adams would rank fourth among all NFL receivers" yikes
Definitely gonna be some decisions with Randall and Jordy. Jordy either takes a huge cut or hangs em up. Any trade value left for Nelson?
Can't see Jordy being anywhere next fall outside of Packers or Kansas farm.
That is a ridiculous amount of cash for a player who has never had a 1000 yard season and has two very severe concussions this year alone. Thompson is off his rocker
Need to tell him to quit scoring touchdowns, yards are more important.

997 yard season = THAT'S RECOCKULOUS MONEY, THOMPSON IS OFF HIS ROCKER!!!
1003 yard season = Well, that's a fine contract given he had a season that went over a completely arbitrary number that some folks get all hot and bothered about because it looks pretty on paper

If thatβs the case then james jones woulda been worth a good 10 mil a season

"severe concussions"? He did not miss one game with the first one & I suspect would not have missed any with this one if the games meant anything. Yes, they were "severe hits", but Adams is not Sam Shields, he does not appear to have susceptibility to concussions beyond the norm

Yep.
Good to see a guy persevere through a bad season and get rewarded.
Davante deserves every last penny he gets.
Good draft pick by Thompson and good start to the offseason.
Hope to see some more bold moves like this one by the organization.
Aaronβs favorite receiver is βThe one that is openβ. Adams has become that guy with ankle breaking moves. Not the biggest or fastest or best hands, just the one who gets open.

Casey Hayward says "hi".
Seems like a lot of coin at first glance but when you look at how the cap is rising it's really not. In 2 years, if he plays to potential, it will be very team friendly deal. If he doesn't play to potential, it's not going to hamstring the club either.
4th highest paid today, in a couple years he will be middle of the pack.

He is still in protocol so Iβm guessing that maybe, just MAYBE he mightβve missed both games with this last one, but thatβs just a hunch of course
If the game vs. Lions meant anything, do you think Davante would still be "in the protocol"???
It's a friggin pre-season game. I'm surprised everyone isn't feigning some sort of injury.

Not sure when or where (Had to be on X4)... but wasn't there word that Jordy mentioned that this might be his last year in GB? If one of the two has to go between Jordy and Cobb, I'd think it would have to be Jordy. Cobb just turned 27 whereas Jordy will be 33 before next season starts.
Jordy appears to have slowed down quite a bit but even that is tough to assess with AR out most of the season.

So does Micah Hyde. They're booking Pro Bowl tickets together.
Good deal. I see no reason to restructure or cut either Nelson or Cobb.
Both Cobb and Nelson live off broken plays and chemistry with #12. It's rare that we see them beating their man off the designed route, save for Jordy and the back shoulder.
I'd give Jordy another year at his current contract but Cobb needs to take a cut. He hasn't been producing enough for a couple years now.

Ditto. I thought he was a huge bust after 2 years. He'll still drop a pass or 2 that he shouldn't, but he's made such great strides in the past 2 years he would have been a devastating loss had he left via FA. Very happy for a guy who had idiots like me wanting him gone after the '15 season.
I see Jordy as being the kind of guy who will take a substantial cut just to try and help Aaron win another title. I don't see Cobb as being that kind of guy.
Oh you thought I was gonna let Davante hit the open market? pic.twitter.com/59la1aBQsv

Cobb has never been a #1 WR...IMO Nelson still could be with a healthy AR12 just because of the chemistry. Do agree Adams is more talented...this could make Nelson more dangerous not getting the opposing team's full attention and knowing what AR12 likes to do when the play breaks down.
Nelson and Cobb have similar base salaries for next year.

Why not? Rodgers and Nelson were groomsmen at Cobb's wedding. I don't see any difference between Cobb and Nelson.
I guess time will tell.

It's not whether it's 997 or 1003, it's that the other receivers making this kind of money are the following for next year (per Ben Fennell on twitter).
Adams has potential, but this is who is making the same money next year.
1. Antonio Brown 17.7 (6 1000 yard seasons - top season (136 catches, 1834 yards)
2. Larry Fitzgerald 16.9 (9 1000 yard seasons - top season (103, 1409)
3. Dez Bryant 16.5 (3 1000 yard seasons - top season (92, 1382)
4. DeAndre Hopkins 14.0 (3 1000 yard seasons - top season (111, 1521)
5. AJ Green 13.8 (6 1000 yard seasons - top season (98, 1426)
The thing to remember about Adams is he just turned 25. Teams will overpay for youth. Plus, he's better than a couple of players on that list.
In Naglers chat this evening after the Adams news, his opinion was that Cobb is "an infinitely better player" at this point than Nelson and Jordy is where they should target the cap space. I dont think they can realistically take the current WR salaries into next year. Whats it almost 50 million, and 1 or maybe 2 have seriously underperformed. gotta do something there.
Jordys gotta work something out. Hes not posting any meaningful numbers outside of GB, maybe NO, NE or LAC he could prove some value but GB is where he can make the biggest impact.
