And I don't give a sh!t if Clay Matthews is trying to get higher-powered pain killers.

The idea that the state actively tries to encage one group of people (doctors) and let another group of people suffer in excruciating pain so that a third group can't get a high in a way the state disapproves of is profoundly evil.

And then the government tries to quash the 1st Amendment rights of people who speak out against this.

The report does not link Manning to Delta-2, but Sly and Robertson name multiple football players as customers, including Green Bay Packers linebacker Mike Neal. Neal, Sly says, connected him with multiple teammates, including defensive end Julius Peppers.

So Neal and Peppers named and even mentions that Neal connected him with "multiple teammates", so that implies there's even more Packers players that weren't named

Clay was linked to powerful pain killers which I don't believe are banned by the NFL....though if he is using steroids it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

The NFL banned human growth hormone as part of its 2011 collective bargaining agreement with players, but did not begin testing for it until 2014. No player has ever tested positive.

That's how we know the testing is a joke.  I'm surprised there isn't one of these stories every week.  Of all the guys that pass through the NFL and need cash it's amazing not one breaks the silence like Jose Canseco did with baseball.

The part I've always been curious about is how the strength and conditioning departments handle it.  Safe to assume most draft picks coming in are already using on the college level, but for the ones that aren't I wonder how the use starts.   Do they  tell a guy if he wants to have a career he needs to get to the weight they want him at and then let him figure it out on his own?  I can't imagine they send them to a doctor that gets the process started.  The liability down the road would be off the charts.

Maybe they don't have to say a word as the guys who aren't using just can't make the cut to get into the NFL?

IIRC, Neal got suspended 4 games for using Adderall while claiming he has ADHD but "forgot" to the tell league. If he's being a dipsh* and using HGH then he's also looking at much longer suspension if he's caught again. And considering he's an UFA I believe at the end of this season, I'd hope those at 1265 will take a long hard look at what it's worth to re-sign a player who's allegedly still juicing.

Why would the Packers worry?  The NFL has never caught anyone for HGH.  It's pretty clear there's a protocol for not getting caught. I feel pretty confident the list of guys not juicing is a lot shorter than anyone who is.

Sly claims "more than half the team" in the piece. The Mike Neal show begins about the 37 minute mark.

Not sure how robust the testing process is in the NFL but either the claims of HGH use are completely overstated or players have found a way to mask or beat those tests.

Physically, when you look at the players, it makes you wonder just how many are taking PEDs.  We all know training and nutrition has improved dramatically but some of these players don't pass the eyeball test.  Clay Matthews is one of them.  Would anyone be shocked if he tested positive for HGH?

I actually see this as a non issue because I think the usage rate across the league is pretty high but the league hasn't caught up or doesn't care.

I have a bad feeling about how all this is going to play out.

Goodell pulls out all the stops to go after Tom Brady over idiotic ball inflation saying basically "It's not the crime, it's the cover-up."

I could see the cursory league investigation about this documentary's charges stumbling and bumbling into players doing stupid **** like destroying their cell phones or what have you, triggering even more investigations. If there is any proof this guy was in Green Bay like he claims there will be more rocks turned over by the league, and you can't tell me that mensas like Mike Neal won't be trying to do everything to cover their tracks.

NFLFU, anything to draw attention from the elephant in the room

A few random thoughts:

There are probably 10 top 50 Fortune 500 companies either tied to or reliant on the NFL. The NFL itself is well on its way to becoming a $20 Billion monstrosity. The money will protect the money and low level irrelevants like Sly and Robertson are going to be silenced.

I have no doubt 60% or more NFL players use growth hormones. I think 90% of that 60% use them for recovery. Thank a 16 game schedule, the travel, and Thursday night football for that.

Fans don't care that players use growth hormones. Fans just don't want players on the team they follow ending up in a report like this one.

No one really want to see an NFL free of recovery treatments and painkillers. It would look like a never ending replacement player parade.

Con artists like Sly and Robertson telling undercover former con artists about clientele they've worked with doesent make it accurate. It does make them con artists trying to drum up new business. There is truth in some of what they are saying. And a lot of patently fabricated bull****

In the end, this story will go away. The NFL is too big to fail.

No doubt. He looked terrified in the video where he recanted everything he was recorded saying. What I want to know is how were they able to get away with secretly recording him without knowledge or consent? Most of the stuff was shown in his apartment/car

Going to be interesting to see how our team plays today. They better be mad as hell and fired up to beat the Card.

Lots of denials from Peyton, but nothing from our players.  Wonder why...  Perhaps the team wants to handle it differently?

Yeah, they're no commenting on the story because there's no need to respond to anything and if they do it'll likely just be parroting what Peyton has said in that it's all bogus. All they have is some low level pharmacist talking about providing players with stuff but he's already recanted everything and will likely be paid off by the NFL to stay quiet and that'll be the end of this

Not sure I agree with Peyton's PR blitz and asking Ari Fleischer to speak on his behalf. Probably best to STFU and let the NFL and NFLPA do the heavy lifting here.

And if HG improves performance and reduces recovery time then Mike Neal has been paying a lot of money to inject himself with Loctite. Dumbass.

I find it interesting that when these rumors come up about football, there is a 'whatever' attitude, but when it occurs in baseball the morality police come out of the wood work.

Players in all sports will always be taking something to improve performance. As they always have.

Peyton is more worried about his other revenue streams right now (Nationwide, Papa John's etc. etc.) plus that legacy thing. Trying to crush this right now before it gets legs. He has a likable public persona to many so the court of public opinion will be on his side. Plus the NFL media machine and reporters love him. LOVES HIM.

Watch him host SNL again soon

Baseball is the one sport that is still held up a ton by purists and traditionalists so that's why you hear more outrage. You still have a ton of people who denigrate advanced statistics as if it's ruining the game. Most other sports have adapted with the times but MLB has tried to cling to the past for too long. I mean, it was only a few years ago that they FINALLY implemented replay into their damn sport

Not that I watch or follow anything on Al Jazeera, for what it's worth I have seen a couple of tweets from respected journalists (Mike Freeman for example) who find Al Jazeera a reputable source.

Peyton trying to pull a Roger Clemens (allegedly) - that's the least surprising rumor of the week.

The NFL is going to go Brown and Williamson on these Jeffrey Wiegands.  Don't poke the hornets nest if you don't want to get stung

Current TV was an unmitigated flop. But they did reach 40 million US Households. Which is why Al Jazeera overpaid to acquire Current TV in 2013 to the tune of $500 million. Then Al Jazeear posted nearly 200 position openings for US journalists.

Am I saying an Al Jazeera report regarding the NFL and other major US sports may have alterior motives?

Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

@ESPNNFL:  Peyton Manning will respond to the Al Jazeera report in an interview with Lisa Salters today on Sunday NFL Countdown at 11 ET on ESPN.

OMAHA, OMAHA!

Me too, but not for the same reason.

I think it has a lot more to do with $$$$$$.

The more you can keep the best players on the field means more revenue.

No one will pay much to see Jake Ryan on the field, but change the name to Clay Mathews....

Now you have a seller....
