Curious to see how this shakes out.

As I've posted before, I ended up seated next to a PGA golfer on a trans-Atlantic flight in 2005 who had a few too many drinks and told me several stories that I thought he was just BSing. The first was about Tiger Woods being one of the worst womanizers the tour had ever seen - all turned out to be true. Another was that Phil Mickelson was one of the worst compulsive gamblers he had ever seen and that if and when the truth ever came out, it would be one of the biggest scandals in golf history. Maybe that is true as well. If Phil was trying to place a 400K bet on the result of a tournament he was in, you have to figure it wasn't just a one-time thing.

Curious to see what Blair Kiel (and more importantly, Mrs. Blair Kiel) say about this.

We talked about this today. Crazy. This goes more in depth:

I think the Tour always knew about his…peccadillos…but this is quite an indictment of what they should have known.

It makes me wonder if some of those collapses at US Opens were on the level. When you have losses to the level Phil must have had, sometimes "guys" will ask you for some favors in lieu of repayment. For example, he couldn't have played the 18th hole on the final round (with a 1 shot lead) at the 2006 US Open if he had tried.
