Cards fail to score in the top of the 10th. Chourio is due up 4th in the bottom of the 10th.
2 outs, bottom of the 10th, 1st and 3rd, tie game, Chourio up. If he doesn't get intentionally walked, the Cards are idiots.
Chourio intentionally walked. Bases loaded for Perkins. 2 outs. Perkins strikes out. To the 11th...

Perkins was absolutely helpless in that at bat to end the 10th.
13!!! Cubs lost 5 - 0!!!!
Now down one after Goldschmidt singles in a run in the 11th.
At least the Cubs lost today, and the Phillies are down 1 in the ninth.
Not anymore. Schawber hit a 3 run homer. 10 - 8 Phillies.
Phucking Phillies scored 3 in the 9th and lead Toronto 10-8 now. I know the Cubs is what we're counting for the magic number, but the real competition is the Phillies for that #2 seed. Hopefully the Crew can rally in the bottom of the 11th.
Time for a Contreras homer.

He's 5 for 6 tonight with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs.
Now the Cards go to the best closer in baseball.
Mitchell pinch hitting for Sanchez. Strikes out. Adames up. 2 outs.
The Brewers not named Chourio and Ortiz have been pretty terrible at the plate tonight. 4 hits and 14 strikeouts.
One good swing.....just one...

And sees a 101.3 MPH fast ball at the top of the strike zone for a called strike one. No chance of doing anything.
This would be a sweet way for Adames to hit HRs in 6 games, but Helsley is very, very good.

Not a home run, but tie game again. Adames doubles.
Adames gets the run in. 4 - 4.
WILLY COMES THROUGH AGAIN!
Holy freaking crap, they don't get much more clutch than that. He must be resigned!
Siani drops the ball! Perkins ties it up! St. Louis challenging the call....NO CATCH!!! ADAMES DOES IT AGAIN!
Adames does it again. RBI #100 ties it up at 4. I know he's going to be expensive and I don't hold out much hope he'll re-sign but I sure hope Mark A opens up the checkbook.
We gotta keep Willie Waukee!
How fitting would it be to get the magic number down to 12 in the 12th inning.
Peguero pitching the 12th.
Please do good, Peguero. Please do good.
Peguero is just not a pressure situation pitcher.
Send Pegeuro back to Nashville and bring Hudson back. Right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12 innings of fighting just for this doofus to fuck it all up.
Game getting away from the Crew, now.
Maybe Pegeuro wasn't quite ready for this type of situation.
Well, at least Helsley going 2 innings probably rules him out for tomorrow.
Truth be told, this is one of the worst offensive showings from the Brewers in a long time. 3 runs on 4 hits, and 17 strikeouts in 12 innings. That's really awful.
Misiorowski might be the callup to replace Peguero.
He's been absolutely dominant at Triple A.

And Chourio had two of the hits.
Sure would be nice if Turang remembered how to hit again, like right now.
Excuse me, 4 runs.
The problem for the playoffs is that the Brewers have a lot of players that are tremendous defensive players and save a lot of runs, but those same players are relatively weak offensive players that are mostly singles hitters - Turang, Perkins, Frelick, Monasterio, Mitchell.
They don't really have a pinch hitter off the bench that gives them power or the best chance at a deep sac fly.
Turang over the last two months:
44 games, 155 AB, 19 runs, 28 hits, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run, 13 RBI, 14 walks, 34 strikeouts, 10/11 stolen bases, 1 HBP, 1 SF.
That's a .181 AVG/.251 OBP/.252 SLG/.503 OPS.
He is providing absolutely nothing with the bat.

I was just thinking the same thing. Not having Yelich is going to hurt us tremendously in the post season.
Turang has a 74 career OPS+. That's 26% below league average.
He's starting to approach Mark Belanger-level bad.

He's not a guy that typically hits the ball in the air. I get that you have to sacrifice bunt in that situation with Ortiz, but Turang is not the guy who is going to get you a sac fly.
The Cards got out of the inning when one of the Brewers decent power hitters (Ortiz) gave himself up on a sac bunt, and they got to face Turang and Perkins to get out of the inning (while intentionally walking Chourio).
