Pos

+ Kevin King looks like he could be a good pick.   Tackled well and played aggressive.

+ Monty had a good game.

+ Cobb, before getting hurt in a game that was essentially over, was playing well.

Negs

- Randall, House, Rollins played scared.

- Watching Rodgers get decleated in a meaningless situation.

- Too many more to list.   I didn't expect a victory, but disappointing to not even compete.

Adams, Cobb, Ty, King, Clay and may Martinez all played fairly well.

HHCD was invisible.

Jake Ryan was a step slow all night long.

Martellus Bennett was ineffective even if the OPI was BS.

Trying to figure out why Lance Kendricks was signed with all the Richard Rodgers love.

Jamal Williams shows nothing at RB.

Beginning to wonder what Trevor Davis offers when we already have 1 WR who does nothing but STs. (I mean no Jordy, no Cobb, and still no T. Davis).

Kyler Fackrell should be the 6th OLBer when Brooks & Biegel get healthy. And yes, I know that means there are only 4 OLBs ahead of him.

Q. Rollins and D. Randall played just like they did in Atlanta last season, and that has got to be concerning unless they too were part of the walking wounded.

Adams, Cobb and King all had nice games. Both tackles didn't embarrass themselves.

Game wasn't as close as the score indicated. Secondary was porous and tackling was poor. Gap between the teams really doesn't appear to have narrowed to a significant degree since the playoff loss. No need to keep AR in the game to get punished when the game is out of reach.

Goood points on Murphy and the Nitro at the goal line.

Murphy looks like he is at least a great bargain for a swing tackle and at best a potential replacement for Bulaga if injuries get the best of him in the next couple years.   It makes the Spriggs miss easier to stomach too.

As far as Mr.Wizard revolutionary approach to goal line D, not only did he go with 2 DL, I believe we also had Burnett still playing ILB.   Who would have thought to try and run for 2 yards against that?   Just a bad break I guess.

RBs are at least adequate, if not solid.
TEs are contributing, both blocking and receiving.
DL is still playing well.
Matthews finally showed up.
King looks like a player.

-
Rodgers reverting to TOG-mode in desperation. Totally out of character.
OL. We've got a couple of guys that can play G, we've got a couple of guys that can't  play T, and another guy that is not playing well at C. ARod took some brutal hits tonight.
DBs were (are?) a big disappointment. It's pretty clear we still can't cover elite WRs, and can't defend a potent passing attack. House has not impressed in the least, Randall was putrid, Rollins looked lethargic; even Burnett and HHCD are not playing particularly well.

Injuries. In light of some posts made in another thread concerning the type of field, the Patriots replacing it, etc., I have to wonder if it caused or contributed to any of our injuries. Quads and hammies to multiple players on both teams? Seems a bit more than coincidental.
In any case, I certainly hope none of these are serious. I think we could hold serve at DL and WR, but we need Bak and Bulaga in the worst way!

According to @PFF, Randall and Rollins allowed 10 catches on 11 targets for 148 yards tonight.

Would be nice if Thompson would draft some defense at the top of the draft for him for once so Capers wouldn't be hamstrung with all these street FAs out there.

When he drafts guys that can't run or tweeners who can't play either position well, it shows up on the field.

Joe Thomas had a nice game as did King, Matthews, Montgomery, Cobb and Adams. Bennett sucked in the first half. He played a lot better in the second half but it was too late to matter, by then.  Considering he plays RT, mostly, Murphy did okay at LT filling in for Bakh. I will never understand NFL officiating. Forcing Rodgers to slow down the game from a no huddle offense because the officials have to be in place prior to the snap is a joke. McCarthy getting an unsportsmanlike penalty for calling the officials out for their poor decisions is also a joke. Injuries are killing us. I know every team has injuries, but like this? Really? It's week 2.

I'm not going to panic after this one, a couple less pick play calls and the game might be totally different.  Playing without two tackles I'd say the offense moved the ball pretty well.  I liked what I saw out of King on defense.  DicRod reminds us why he will be in the Packer HOF someday for the most seasons as a Green Bay Packer.

Something, something, something, no more excuses for the defense this year, something, something, something, excuses.

Positives.  It is over and we can move on to next week and the season is a marathon an not a sprint.  I won't panic over this one there are 14 more games to go.

Negatives?  how does one football team year after year have so many injuries ALL the time?   I know many injuries in football are just bad luck but man it is crazy.

Playing soft defense and letting the Falcons play pitch and catch.

Positives

+ Monty, Adams, Cobb, King, Clay, Burnett

Negatives

- Bennett (did not start well & then looked disengaged), Rollins, Randall, HHCD, Ryan, House, injuries

Summary                                                                                                                               Defense- The size, strength, & speed of the Falcons WRs were once again too much for our DBs. The only one-on-one matchup we seemed to win consistently was CM vs. their backup RT. Rollins was physically overmatched in both the pass & run game. Our best DB combo seemed to be ; King and House outside & Randall in the slot. Brice played without discipline & was running his mouth early in the game. Jones could take some of his snaps. HHCD appeared hesitant to decisively break on the ball

Offense- Once Jordy went out the Falcons pressed up hard on our WRs across the board. With back-up OTs, they knew that we were unlikely to use any 5 step drop patterns, so they tried disrupting our short to intermediate patterns. I think Bennett was tabbed to be a big part of game plan and did not come through. Drops, penalties, guys not on same page. In addition it still looked like Atlanta had more speed on defense than we do on offense.

+ With all our guys healthy I think we win actually. Our gameplan was hamstrung by not having the league's best Tackle tandem. And even then the gameplan was not bad for this defense, they moved the ball well (save for a few mind numbingly bonehead plays). We started a backup RG who had never played in a regular season game at RT and we were a freak lateral away from it being a 4 point game. Jordy would have made a difference, Bak/Bulaga would have made a difference, Daniels would have made a big difference, etc. Injuries aren't an excuse, but it's a reality that not having 4 of maybe the 10 best players on your roster does shows up on the scoreboard.

- Rodgers needs do a better job of reading the situation and taking what the defense gives him. He's brilliant when he's freelancing and buying time, but Atlanta was on-point and wasn't going to let him get out of the pocket. He has to be smarter in that situation and take what was there. He's faced two good defenses and has thrown dumb interceptions both games.

Cobb looked great but now he's dinged again.  He gets dinged a lot and then he can't play to his ability and looks like someone everybody wants to cut.  I love the guy but he and CM seem to always be hampered by or miss games because of injuries.  Hopefully they buck the trend.

Too much speed on ATL's side of the ball.  On offense it looked like their varsity flag football team vs our 8th graders on D.

Like I said all TC, the D (mostly young secondary) is going to get smoked at times vs good passing teams but they should start tightening up by Nov when King and Jones are finding their legs.  Hopefully the offense keeps winning games until then.

++++

Despite the score and injuries they competed

King and Jones have certainly earned more playing time

Murphy is a guy that I think can be their primary OT backup

For all the hits he took thankfully Rodgers is still healthy

Monty looked good - he just didn't get enough touches

CMIII had a number of pressures

------

MM and his clock management and play calling before halftime is atrocious.  Only made worse by him choosing to abandon the run when they get down a score or two

Randall and Rollins looked really bad.  It's clear to me Randall can't or won't tackle and I just don't think Rollins has enough quickness to D up on WRs

Injuries - I just don't understand why this team has so many of them

Officiating wasn't great but NFL officiating in general isn't good.  Tom Brady lobbied for them picking up a flag but Rodgers doesn't get the same treatment.  NFLFU

Overall, I don't get the impression Atlanta is some type of worldbeating team and losing Daniels and Jordy had a major impact.   Would like to see them again but much like Seattle we have to get them in GB.
