Top 5 offense

1. TE Josiah Deguara: 79.9
2. RB A.J. Dillon: 76.7
3. LT Yosh Nijman: 71.0
4. RB Aaron Jones: 68.5
5. WR Romeo Doubs: 68.2

Surprised by Degaura, apparently he blocked better than I thought. Not surprised by Dillon, Nijman, or Jones.

Also pleasantly surprised by Romeo. Nice job.

Bottom 5 offense

1. OL Zach Tom: 43.2
2. RG Jake Hanson: 44.4
3. WR Christian Watson: 45.1
4. LG Jon Runyan Jr: 47.6
5. C Josh Myers: 55.7

Extremely surprised by Tom, thought he blocked for the run pretty well, but maybe not. Not surprised by Hanson or Watson.

That Tom, Hanson, Runyan, and Myers were among the worst offensive performers while playing against a mediocre at best Vikings interior line does not exactly bode well for the interior offensive line going forward.

---  Offensive gameplan.  Maybe it's because I'm old and I remember Donatell's defense when he was DC for the Packers.  I thought to myself "Yes!  Attack the soft middle between the hash marks".  I guess AR was in college and MLF was in diapers or something but you think they'd do some research.  No slants, no crossing routes, no motion.  WTF.  What killed me was the replay where they showed the all 22 with the "Umbrella" of the Viking D and there was the massive hole in the middle and all our players outside the numbers.  Just poor planning.

The last gasp 4th and 1. I think it was Jonesy that sat down at the marker on the bottom of the screen. The two guys up top nearly run into each other. Huge gap in the middle of the field. Rodgers has to throw into two defenders and hope his guy can elevate to make the play. McCarthy style offense when all you need is one yard. Not to mention, it was obvious Rodgers was 100% uncomfortable in the pocket all day. Why you would choose to vacate that 5-7 yard zone just beyond the LOS is beyond me. The team failed to execute much of the day. But the gameplans on both offense and defense were as bad if not worse.

You could have Darrelle Revis and Deion Sanders in their prime as CB, and if you have the same anemic pass rush we had yesterday, you would get the same result. Our lack of pressure on Kark was beyond unacceptable.

We'd best figure out ILB pronto if Quay is out any length of time...my guess is Barnes is done for the season. As much as we shit all over Ty Summers, he may be back in Green and Gold before long...

Barnes with a high ankle sprain and a calf injury, but not season-ending, but he will miss significant time.

Reasonably good news (I thought it might be season ending).

No update on Walker though and that scares me. Losing both for any length of time as with Barnes seems to be the football gods saying the Packers aren't allowed good LBs.

Seems to be a recurring theme, going back to the playoffs.  I don't know what the coaches are seeing in practice or in the clubhouse, but Newman is not a tackle, Hanson is a deep bench guy and Tom needs to be in the starting lineup, somewhere.

It's more of a front office problem.

Jenkins tore his ACL in November and Bakh hasn't really played since December 2020. Expecting either one of them to be ready for games in September (or ever in Bakh's case) was way too optimistic.

I don't know what was available in free agency this offseason in the bargain veteran range, but one would think you'd look for another Billy Turner/Veldheer type to get you by for a few weeks at at least one of those spots. The Cowboys have their issues but when they lost their best lineman last month, they went and signed Jason Peters out of retirement. Peters may be well past his prime, but you know he'll likely perform at at least a C level. Newman and Hanson are not going to do that.

What's odd is that they will probably say that they want to develop long-term depth on OL (which is fine), but then simultaneously give snaps to Cobb and Watkins at WR when those guys haven't been real threats since about 2017.

-I really feel that first defensive series set the tone for the entire game. Not that they care, but I was extremely let down by the D. I thought they would dominate. The early drop didn’t help land who knows what the rest of the game would have looked like, but I don’t think it would have made much of a difference.

-Z is a piece of chode. Carries himself like a punk and had at least one cheap shot on AR that I saw.

-Rodgers is Rodgers. Love him or hate him. He’s going to be demonstrative on the field/sidelines when he’s pissed at other guys. At least after the game he took some culpability in the loss. I think the upside on him is too great .

- This was just one week so it’s not a trend yet. Offense is going to have to learn to work with a patchwork online and young receivers. I don’t want to see anything about how Adams does vs GB’s current WR’s. He didn’t want to be here and there was nothing GB could do about it other than maybe trade and overpay for another #1. Gotta make things work with what we got minus some tweaking.

Piece of Chode?  Love the creativity there!

Expecting Bakh to return after 21 months is legitimate, he should have been ready to play. Heck, he played in game 16 in 2021, 20 snaps.  So what the hell is going on?

What frustrates me about MLF sometimes, as great of a coach I think he is, is there seems to be at least 2-3 games per season where you're like, "who locked MLF in the closet and designed the offensive game plan?"  I mean, they're so totally unlike him, it's as if someone else did it.  How can he be so poor at those few game plans and so brilliant in the others?  And then he says something like, "we should have run the ball more, that's on me."  Well, then, why didn't you run the ball more?  Sure, there were a lot of physical and mental errors in yesterday's game, but a better plan/in-game adjustments may have been able to mitigate some of that.

Others have mentioned this, and some knew this before the season started, but the WR group is hot garbage.  When Lazard comes back, it will help, but as a few posters said, get Watson and Doubs as much time as possible ASAP no matter how much AR whines.  Lazard can start as the #1 receiver when he gets back, make Doubs #2, and Watson #3.  If we do that, I have a feeling that by the end of the season, it will be Doubs #1, Watson #2, Lazard back to #3.  The rest of the receivers almost don't matter in terms of their production.  Sure, lumps will be taken, but Doubs and Watson have way more talent, although raw, than the rest of the WR corps.  I don't care if they're veterans, they can't play.  Some serious upgrades needed there next season.

KFAN working the Z revenge angle hard.

It's PFF, so whatever, but they had Z with their third lowest defensive grade.  He got a sack and crawled on the ground. Good for him.

Side note - Z did not sign with the Vikings because he wanted to play GB twice (for revenge??). He signed with them after Baltimore called his bluff and pulled the offer he initially agreed to.

As for Sammy Watkins, hard to comprehend why he'd lead the team in snaps going forward if he could not produce more than 3 for 18 yards in a game without Lazard and playing against a mediocre, at best, secondary.

Watkins is the closest thing they have to a real threat and they can roll coverage to him. I love Cobb, but he's Driver-slow at this point, Watson had no real training camp and we see what he is right now, Doubs is really raw, Winfree's pure JAG, at best, and Amari couldn't earn snaps over any of them.

Even with Lazard this receiving corps is garbage.

Watson did crap the bed Sunday but there is no where but up I hope. Doubs is raw but is a rook with potential . Winfree has a higher ceiling than we have seen I believe firmly, and Lazard doesn't get the credit he deserves imho.

It will get better pretty quick I do believe. Lazard is not garbage in my book. Sorry.

"Veterans Sammy Watkins and Randall Cobb ran 55 combined routes vs. MIN and produced 32 receiving yards."

This was against a mediocre Viking defensive backfield.

A team can have a Watkins or a Cobb as a 4th or 5th veteran WR presence.

They can't both be used extensively in the same game on a regular basis if the team hopes to have a viable passing attack.

I like Lazard too.  In this system where they rely on WRs to block I think he’s a good fit. Is he great? No, but I think he’s an asset for this team when healthy.  And he’s actually worked extensively with Rodgers in the past, something that no other receivers on the team can say with the lone exception being the aging Randall Cobb.

Lazard’s not garbage, but he has a role, and it’s not as a #1.  He plays the #3 very well.  I like Lazard.

It was great that LaFleur showed no hesitation playing rookies right away.  Get their lumps now and be contributors later in the season.

Thankfully Quay Walker is not seriously injured and Barnes can come back this season.  Our apparent ILB depth took a hit pretty quickly.

Tonyan was on a pitch count but looked good.  With all of the question marks at WR he has to emerge as a threat.  I don't know if has the skill set to be a top tier TE but that would be a huge boost to the passing game.

Keep an eye on Stokes.  He didn't seem to have a good camp and it looks to have carried over into the regular season.  He's not a liability but coaches have a year of film to attack him.

Not to be the contrarian because I do think they'll be better soon.  But those two plays aren't just outliers that are usually high % plays.  They had issues in the redzone going back to last year and everybody knows their WR issues this year.  Should be an easy catch for any WR but Watson does have some history with drops and he is still a bit wet behind the ears.  Those two plays seem more a representative of their current O struggles.

So from my perspective being at the game it was a perfect storm.  If a WR was open down field ARod was running for his life and didn't have time.  When he did have time the receivers couldn't get open.

One thing that truly sucked at the game was they showed Z Smith on the scoreboard at least 30 times and I am not kidding.

The Packers seemed lethargic and not ready for this game.  But hopefully this lights a fire under them and they take it to the Bears.
