The OL is playing great, the running game is cooking, and Rodgers is all over it.
It's just one game. They'll have plenty of film to get better with this week...
We should have kept it to field goals.
Hiding stuff for later thangs n' stuff.
You doubt!?

2nd Half Defense
Blocked extra point again.
Julio is a special player. But it's really frustrating to see one guy destroy a defense like that. It wasn't even like he was making contested catches most of the time. He was consistently wide open. Packers defense just didn't seem to adjust. Strange.
Good win though. 10-3. Division leader.
Clavin is gonna eat their lunch money and DET's D will not allow 35 first half points. GB should still win but boy is it going to be a tough one.
NE may have taken DET to the woodshed but unfortunately the associative rule is not valid in the NFL.
The Packers haven't trailed since October.
Props to MM and AR for that stat. Impressive.
And the DEF - coaches and players.
There were moments last night where it seemed they trailed as people were posting that the Packers needed to score again.
Does Rodgers get a 4th qtr comeback for last night?
NO! No credit for a 4th quarter comeback. That TD to Jordy was a huge mistake. Let the Falcons take the lead before you resort to such stupidity in the future, Aaron.
The Packers haven't trailed since October.
But they have been tied.....elite teams are never tied
And the DEF - coaches and players.
Rong.
Defense is giving up 23 ppg. That is 18th in the NFL. Bottom half of the league. The only current playoff teams that give up more points are the Falcons and the Steelers.
Nowhere near as impressive or important as what the offense is doing.
90% of what this team has been able to accomplish is because of MM, AR and the offense. Dom and his boys are just along for the ride.
D has been a rollercoaster this year. Hard to fathom what they did last night vs what they did just a week before. D was championship level vs. NE, chumps vs. ATL. #headscratcher
Not a head scratcher. All week long the D was told how great they were. It doesn't always work that way.
The whole team is fine. The outcome was never in question.
Fans ripping the D is also fine. Defenses don't need to be told how great they are. They have to prove it.
The D did play well against the Pats. Forced some punts but it is not like they shut out the Pats either. IIRC they were one almost TD by Gronk away from having a 2 point lead with less than 3 minutes to go in the game.
Good not great works if they are going lights out. 31-7 at half obviously caused them to let up.
That's not uncommon.
If GB comes up short in 2014, it will be because the deficiencies at inside linebacker were simply too much for the rest of the defense to cover for or for the offense to outscore. There is nothing going on here that should catch anyone by surprise.
I don't think this offense has ever been better than it is right now. This team can run the ball and suddenly isn't afraid of a check down or screen play. This is not the 2011 offense.
Is it good enough to compensate for the putrid bag of **** that is AJ Hawk and Brad Jones? We're going to find out. I honestly don't know for certain that it is.
I don't know how anyone wouldn't be impressed by what the D did vs. a NE O that was rolling, "even against DET's D".
What may be of some concern is this team's lack of production and/or adjustments coming out of halftime. The numbers are skewed for the games they were blowing out in the first halves at home, but there has been a clear pattern in their half-to-half performances all season. Is it great be sitting on a 2 or 3 score lead at the half? Absolutely. But that won't happen in the playoffs and they are going to have to start producing more in the second half.
Also the team has few other major holes.
No reason TT can't deploy serious resources toward upgrading the ILB position for next year.
Found on the internet:
With the victory over the Falcons, the Packers reached 10 wins for the sixth time under head coach Mike McCarthy. Only one active head coach has reached that threshold more times with their current team, Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots. McCarthy also ties the legendary Curly Lambeau for most 10-win seasons in Packers history, though that comes with the caveat that teams played fewer games during Lambeau's time.
Reaching double digits in the win column is a momentous occasion for any team. Doing so six times in nine years is worth recognition. McCarthy receives plenty of criticism for some of his play calling decisions, but he's an integral part of one of the league's most consistent winners. Along with Rodgers and GM Ted Thompson, he forms the nucleus of a machine that is built to compete in the short run and into the foreseeable future. Such is a rare breed in the parity ridden NFL.
Play calling is just one of his jobs. Having the pulse of the team, setting the tone, leadership, teaching, designing practice schedules, evaluation, self scouting, in game decisions and adjustments, personnel, etc, etc, etc. His fingerprints are all over this team and he really doesn't get his due.
DH13, yes. Knock on wood but look at the improved injury situation. Emulating Chip Kelly's practice schedule and hiring the nutritionist and other adjustments appear to be working. MM is always trying to improve his program in all aspects and the results show it.
I think this defense is somewhere between what we saw last night and what we saw vs NE. I do believe this defense tends to play down to the level of their competition. Given that it looked like another blowout at halftime, the Packers took their foot off the gas. This defense is not a point to where they can just turn it back on. Credit to the Falcons for staying motivated and taking advantage of what the Packers were giving them. By the start of the 4th quarter the Packer D looked pretty exhausted due to Atlanta's up-tempo play.
I wish the NFL would make the 11 x 11 game film available for fans. I'd pay to see it and you'd think it would be something to generate discussion among fans. It would be much more relevant for me than fantasy football where people get caught up in which QB is throwing for garbage time yards trailing by 3+ touchdowns in the fourth quarter (aka as Stat Padford prior to this year).
When you see the televised game, it's hard to tell if there are any adjustments going on in defensive formations, calls, etc. You can tell if there's a blitz but that's about it. It would also be nice for Gruden to give some perspective on this. I was one of the fans going crazy last night trying to understand why there weren't any apparent adjustments. Maybe Capers did try every thing he could think of without success and we just didn't see them or weren't told about them. Maybe he was just stubborn and didn't change anything, but it was hard to tell.
If Gruden wasn't so busy talking about every player like they were the greatest thing since sliced bread, maybe he could have broken down how Jones was getting so open in the zones. They did this with Jordy's double move TD (in fairness most of us can see that happening as it develops it's been run so much).

This is still a very good team that can win it all if they have the right mindset going forward. Shields and the secondary were horrible, and the front seven generated no pressure at all. Like I said last night, if they play like that against a good team, they're in serious trouble against every single playoff team but the Atlanta Falcons; if they bring their A-game like they played last week, the sky is the limit.
You continue to make the assumption that if GB takes a day off they get smoked while apparently operating under the assumption the other playoff teams will operate at max efficiency when facing GB.
There is no great team in 2014. All 12 teams that make the playoffs will have areas that can be exploited. All of them.
If GB plays like **** in January their season will end. Same goes for the other 11 teams.
+ A win is a win is a win in the NFL. I'll take it
+ Rodgers continues to vault himself above every signal caller in the NFL
+ QB run for a first down. WOW!!
+ Cobb & Nelson. Double WOW
--------------
- Lacy with a hip pointer (Any news yet?)
- Defenders need to learn to get off O-Line holding. It's not going to be called
- Dom da Dom Dom Dom (Please retire after this season no matter how it ends)
- ILB'ers (sans Barrington) Jones & Hawk should never be on an NFL football field in any playing capacity....EVER
Thirty-six people were ejected from Lambeau Field during last night's win over the Falcons, and 11 more were arrested.
The 47 people are expected to have a roster capable of winning the NFC South.
It was supposed to be a building block, that defensive stand the Green Bay Packers made at Lambeau Field only eight days earlier against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots to preserve their best win of the season. Surely, it was going to be what helped defensive coordinator Dom Capers' unit flourish down the stretch.
"And now, it's doomsday," linebacker Clay Matthews said, anticipating the line of questions that was coming after the Packers' 43-37 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. "Write it. Put it in there so we have something to talk about, so that way we can overcome it and be like, 'I told you so.' Write it."
@TheXOsOfLife: #Packers AJ Hawk played only 8/68 defensive snaps v. ATL.. Fewest snaps (when healthy) since Week 8 of 2008!! Barrington played 46/68 snaps

Yeah, but did you notice his missed tackles were also way down last night!
This is quite remarkable.
@SI_PeterKing: This seems important.

That gawd damn offense has to stop scoring so much...
Do you know why ?
Because the first thing they do after scoring is to kick it back to the damn opponents

Number one team in giving it back to their foes offense...

The ALL-22 is available on NFL Game Rewind. I think it is $60/season.

More onside kicks, please.

Chilidumdum you are spot on reference the check downs....was thinking that too. 5-7-12 yard plays Dream from heaven.
A Rod has been taking too many shots scrambling. Slide young man....fight the fight the next play.
Rodgers about sliding on his radio spot today:
@ByRyanWood: Rodgers on avoiding slide a couple times: "Sometimes, you just want to feel like a football player. Ted probably didn't appreciate it."
Starks checkdown is a thing of beauty.
1. Get yards, I mean right now. Get yards....MOVE YOUR ASS STARKSIE!!!
2. Hmmm...maybe get some more yards here..
3. Get lot's and lots of yards until someone tackles me, WEEEEEEEEEEE!
That seems to be the thought process he goes through the second he catches a pass. Like he's shot out a ****ing cannon.
More Rodgers. Buurrnn!
@ByRyanWood: Rodgers on why he used the belt TD celebration Monday: "I just wanted to remind people you can do that celebration and not hurt yourself."
