I'm not going to bag on Shields too much. Yes, he had a blown coverage but he kept sticking his nose in it and being physical. Blame that **** zone defense were they didn't challenge the receeivers off the line at all. Hayward got beat but also had a good performance against a very good passing offense. I think in the light of the front 7 not putting consistent heat on Brees (kudos to Saints oline) the secondary did a imperfect but admirable job.

I really like what I see when Hayward and McMillian are in the game. Get house back and things are looking even better.
+ Packers won
- I missed the game

Cedric Benson on win, refs: "I think those calls/situations are training us for something to come in the future, preparing a path for us"
On that play I thought I saw Woody or one of the safetys making a hand gesture at Sheilds, he obviously didn't see it.

Bad play, but not the worst missed call of the game.

By far the funniest was the D with the freeze on the FG attempt. Intentional or not, it was effective.

I clearly remember the one, which I think needs to have some credit go to the defender (James Jones disagrees). I don't recall another. Jordy had the worst drop of the day IMHUOP

Speaking of

JAMES JONES IS WORTH EVERY PENNY

About Harrell, notice how many times Rodgers has tripped this season already? Saturday is constantly getting pushed backwards at initial contact. I don't think he's horrible but he has never been a mauler type. I'm hoping TT is looking to invest a high pick/FA for center this next year.

But Harrell at QB still gives me the heebie jeebies.

Yeah, I mentioned that tripping thing to my wife last week.

Late game fighting by Raji and Woodson. I don't doubt that they had
reasons, but this is a veteran SB team; show some discipline. Did you notice when Woodson got so upset that Clay Matthews stood well away just shaking his head? C'mon, Woody, you're a lot older than CM3; you should be able to handle it. And Raji's foul gave them the Saints an extra set of downs on the doorstep--foolish!
and of course.......the freaking blind refs!
+ For the second straight week this team came back from adversity, they are learning to be tough

+ running game is developing, can't wait until we are team that will run on 3rd and 3-4

- zone defense, I know there is always a mixture of man/zone out there but this team is more suited towards man IMO

This. Receivers running free with Brees in the pocket is not a recipe for success.
I think Shields looked lost due to poor communication. I don't think it was all his fault.

Sure wish I knew who was supposed to be covering Colston.

Saints had 700 pounds of beef on Clay all day long. He still got a sack & a bunch of hurries. Dude is the sickest linebacker since Clay Matthews played for the Browns

If you're talking about the long TD, Shields addressed that in an interview. He said it was all on him. He got caught looking into the backfield and indicated that it can't happen again.

Negs..

- Capers.. At one point Clay was cursing him on live TV for getting the play in late.. His soft zone on 3rd down got abused.. Players out of position..

- Zebras.. 3 huge missed calls.

Did anyone notice Hawk yelling god$&@&$@ a couple plays before regarding the same thing. Got to wonder what is going on with plays getting called in???
The radio mentioned that the plays were going through Morgan Burnett, since we planned on playing a 4-7 defense (7 DBs and no ILBs). That meant that Hawk did not have the calls and there seemed to be some times when the calls were slower coming from Burnett than they would have been from Hawk/Smith. The 7 DB scheme went away when Doc Jennings got hurt, as the next 7th DB is Bush. Bit of a gimmick, which didn't work well and interfered with communication. I like coaches who poke the box and try new things, but they don't all work.

It might a little early for a funeral on this one. Capers rolled this out to combat what happened last time around- Brees and Sproles targeted Hawk & Bishop and killed the Packers with their short passing game

We know that alignment was a failure because our ILBs simply aren't athletic enough and being too slow isn't a correctable flaw

The 7 DB alignment can work; execution and communication are both fixable items

Give it some time, I think its a viable plan when faced with a high octane offense.

Great point.. I was worried about what he was going to do to Hawk / Smith. Kudos to Slocum, Crosby and the Ginger for containing him on returns as well.

The 7 DB alignment

Ed Donatell coined it the "Dollar Package". Used it vs. the Rams (with wild success) but of course our hero had to throw 6 INT's. Then Belichick used it to win the Super Bowl

So you missed:
5 carries, 20 yds rushing
5 catches, 44 yds receiving (1 TDs)
Confused

Not a great game by any stretch but he did score a TD, just sayin. Razzer

any RB can do that. Smiler they contained him so I didn't really notice. keeping Sproles from a 20-30 yarder or better is good enough for me.

Billy B even used 6 DBs and Troy Brown as the 7th didn't he?

Correct.

It seems other head coaches took notice & looked at WR's & turned them into DB's too (Sam Shields)
The old joke was you lined up your fastest guys and the ones who could catch were made receivers, the other d-backs.

With that in mind I'm almost surprised nobody has suggested moving Finley to Strong Safety. Razzer
